Morning. Something strange going on with meters. Lately Maggie's ears must be very sensitive as I've beeen getting a big drop blood. So I decided to see if I could use one drop for both meters, and it worked, The Relion Micro read 94! My Alpha Trak read 184! That sounded a little high, so I retested the Alpha meter, and 2nd time it read 159. I need to read my Alpha handbook and see if a big drop could be getting an incorrect reading. When I get another meter, it will be a different Relion or another brand. I'm not sure the Relion Micro is correct, although I like the bg readings. I'm still going by the Alpha Trak and will stop doing the comparisons.

Re: 6/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 159 - I think!

If I'm remembering correctly, I think there can be a bigger difference between meters at the low and high end of the ranges. Apparently, there is greater potential for error at the extremes. Also, keep in mind that the AlphaTrack reads higher -- if an 80 is considered a dose reduction on that meter vs. under 50 on other, human meters, the 94 on the Relion = approx. 144 on the AlphaTrack. From that perspective, the numbers are pretty close.

Re: 6/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 159 - I think!

I use the Reli-On Micro and am happy with the price of the strips. There is always an error margin and there will never be two meters with the exact same numbers. As long as you pick one and stick with only that one it will all be good.

Re: 6/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 159 - I think!

I also use relion now as well and keep my freestyle lite as my backup only because of test strip price you just cannot beat relion's cost and I am not working a lot now so have had to cut costs where I can. Nice amps for her today :-D

Re: 6/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 159 - I think!

Thanks Sienne, Pat and Lisa. Yes, what a big difference in cost of strips between the two meters. I just received my two bottles strips for the Alpha Trak, so I'll continue on until used and then switch to a different meter. Amazon charges same price as Vet plus shipping, so it's more pricey, but more reliable than the Vet as they have to order them. They're not kept on stock. Maggie would have a lot of pretty greens with the Relion.

Nice looking SS - at either number from both meters. :-D Maggie is doing really well.

Don't you love it when it is so easy to get a big drop of blood? No worries about poking again and again like most of us had to do when we first started BG testing. Even now, 18 months after OTJ and very few tests, my kitty's ears still bleed easily.

Keep up the good work! I bet soon that SS will be all green.

Nice numbers!!

Just curious- what do the Relion and Relion Micro strips run on a per-strip basis? I use a Bayer Breeze 2 meter, and consistently am able to get strips on ebay for 30c apiece (after shipping, no tax). I got the meter for free (actually made $5 on the deal) with coupons.

Hi CD; that's interesting that you experience the same with BigMac. Do you think it's because of so much pricking?

Thanks Weather Girl. I just checked one of my Amazon statements, and I paid $59.50 for one bottle of 50 strips for the Alpha meter. I bought the Relion Micro strips six months ago, so I wonder if they have a shelf life! Anyway, they were not expensive at all, but I can't remember what I paid. That's great about the cost of the Bayer strips. No shipping and no tax either!

I think so. Someone (forgive me, I forgot who) said that the ears may form some extra capillaries due to the pricking and that is why it becomes easier after time. I don't know this for a fact, but the ears do "learn" to bleed so it sounds right to me. And even after only testing once a month or so, BigMac's ear still is easy, but just the one ear. I didn't use his left ear and when I did try poking there, it was just like starting all over on day one and I didn't like that at all! So we have one bleeder ear and one not so much. :-D

Hi CD. I have the same thing going on with Maggie's ears. One bleeds really easy (her left ear), and the other one very stubborn. The left ear even formed a teeny bump on it. Sometimes I try to give her ears a break when I know she's stable. She's so easy going. As soon as she hears the strips bottle snap, she knows it's time for the prick and then the reward of Gerber baby food. She'll even jump onto the sofa where I test.

Moonie's right ear is the one I use--I move the spot every time & alternate use of the neosporin & vaseline--Keeps it soft--

Re: 6/7 Ann & Maggie AMPS 159 - I think!

Hi Ann and Maggie! I have been testing Scrabble every couple of days and his ear still bleeds easily too! We have been using the relion micro since the beginning. I love it. The strips are only $20 for 50. The expiration date is on the package, I think they are good up to a year. I don't know anything about the Alpha Track but the relion strips are way cheaper. Glad to see Maggie is doing well!

Thanks for the vaseline tip Roni. I think I will try it.

Hi Michelle and Scrabble boy! That is very reasonable for the Relion strips. Maggie just had a bg of 111 on the Alpha, so I caught her Nadir for a change. Thanks I'll check the expiration date in my strips.
