Golly! What's wrong with me, where is my head lately??? I did not test the other night after I shot low (except at +1) and then I was negligent again last night after Taffy had a good drop at his +2. On Sunday when I shot low, I don't know why I didn't get tests, or I didn't write them down. I can't even remember. I'm going to check the meter history, bcuz I remember being fully alert/awake and ready to test, so why is there nothing on my notepad? I am seriously loosing it.

Well, yesterday I ran out of homemade and to buy myself some time, I thought I would buy some RadCat, which Taffy used to eat almost exclusively (turkey and chicken). So I picked up two small containers and thought that I would keep one on hand in the freezer for "emergencies". I defrosted the other and opened and it just grossed me out. The high pressure pasteurized meat is icky. But I had nothing else ready, so i fed it to him. Taffy gobbled it up and then had a tummy ache and looked quite pathetic all night. I got up extra early and ground some organic chicken thighs and made his homemade. I returned the two tubs of RadCat to the store. No more.

He seems to feel better, but he had yellow all day.[/URL]

Glad he's better. My cats won't touch Radcat so I stick with homemade.

Sometimes we miss tests because we are so tired. It's good that you caught that you did it. Don't be too hard on yourself. I doubt he got low last night because he didn't bounce hard today. But...it is good to try and get those tests when you shoot low and he's flat.

I stick with homemade
Do you use a vitamin mix or add supplements separately/follow recipe? I am committed to home prepared and just icked out by commercial offerings, BUT I sure wish that there was one decent food (canned or raw) that I could have as a backup. I don't understand why cat food is so awful, cheap to expensive. Also, I buy ORGANIC meats and it is still cheaper or comparable to pricey gross canned foods. I just wish I could get my kibble addict civvie on board!

Poor Taffy. The cat food industry is definitely a mess. I hope he slows down and surfs safely for you tonight. Don't be hard on yourself for not testing. It sounds like you needed some sleep. :bighug::bighug:

I use EZ Complete from Food Fur Life. I used to use Alnutrin but it's not balanced for kittens. I got my kitten at about the time EZC came out so I switched Tobey and started Livvie on it and they love it. I buy the organic meats and then add the completely balanced powder and water.

I started Tobey, as a kitten, on Primal premade raw because Susan Thixton with Truth About Pet Food has rated it in her top commercial foods for several years in a row. He liked it and so did I but I still felt it had a lot of ingredients (fruits, veggies) that cats don't need. As soon as I discovered Alnutrin supplement, I switched between the two.

I also keep Ziwipeak canned here but have not fed it in a very long time. I think it's the highest quality canned cat food out there....no carrageenan, no gums, and they eliminated the agar agar and use chickpeas as a binder. Chickpeas are low in carbs and high in protein. I don't care, generally, for commercial pet foods but, if I needed to feed a bit of canned for any reason, this is the one I like. It worked really well for my Gracie with her IBD.

I hope this helps.
