Hi everyone,

Despite a dose increase, Ben is still bouncing at the high level. I'm not sure what to make of it, beyond his just needing a higher dose than he has gotten so far.

I want to order an insulin pen for him. As you may know, the Lantus pen comes in a box of 5 and costs in the range of $400 for the box. Mark's Marine does not have any anyway. They do have Basaglar pens, which are also more affordable.

Is Basaglar interchangeable with the Lantus pen? I'm currently using a vial of Insulin Glargine.

Thanks, and hope everyone is having a good Monday so far!

I did a search and found this
Basaglar is a biosimiliar insulin to Lantus. Semglee (available in the US) makes another biosimilar just called insulin glargine
that is quite reasonably priced

yes we were using Lantus and switched to Basalgar from Mark's. Not even a blip, Hendrick did not seem to even notice the change. A vet at Mark's assured me that the two are identical at the molecular level.

Thanks, Kyle, good to know. There is such a big price difference that I'm happy we can just use the Basalgar. Maybe Benny will follow in Hendrick's pawsteps and head toward the greens too!

I used every pen to the last stop but had to throw out half used vials so it’s good to switch to pens.

That's really a good feature of the pens! I am one of those people that always likes to stock up, so having a good supply of shelf-stable insulin makes me happy. :)
