+6 54 - Worried

I've been dealing with him having pancreatitis and he's also come off a long-term use of 5mg EOD prednisolone.

He had his last dose of pred on Dec 11th and back then was getting 2U Lantus BID.

Tapering off the pred resulted in some lower numbers but we we're finding him having some erratic swings (80-400's). An exam on Dec 3 confirmed pancreatitis (Spec Fpl) was 6.4)

So, I started treating the pancreatitis with sub-qs and pain meds (transdermal codeine) and B12 shots. This seems to be resulting in some lower numbers. The past 3 cycles I've cut his dose back by .25 to 1.5, but today things are looking scary.

he was 146 amPS and at +3 he was 131. Now at +6 he is 54 (I am using the Alpha Trak). I am really worried as he is real low - but acting ok.

What should I do? Take him to the vet?

(he ate this am at 10 and again just now.)
 
First breathe and keep testing him, feed him small amounts until his BGs come up to a safe level again....there have been several times that Autumn has decided to surf the 20s and 30s on me (human meter) and been just fine as long as I kept feeding her small amounts of her regular low carb food.

If he drops lower or starts showing signs of a true hypo then you break out the high carb foods or rub a little Karo syrup, honey or pancake syrup on his gums.

Thanks - I gave him 1tsp Evo dry that I had on hand for emergencies tested him 30 mins later and he was up to a 90 and then again about 60 mins later and he was up to 120.6.

The thing that is getting difficult is his PS numbers are always quite different. I've even though about switching to Levemir because I've read its more predictable for many on here.

I think that Autumn reading a 30 on a human meter would likely equal a 50 on the AT meter or thereabouts?
 
Yep Autumn being 30 on a human meter would be about the same as her being 50 on an Alphatrak. Autumn also was a Lantus kitty that I switched over to Levemir...after using both insulins I perfer the Levemir. Both are excellent insulins but at least for Autumn she is steadier on the Lev.
