Good morning LL.....and happy Sunday!!!!!!!!!

A verra happy, purry, furry this morning. 2 breffis and a snack already...clean plate club status intact.   I went ahead with the dosecrease this am to 2 units....I hope this will bring us some better numbers. Zoe seems very content and she looks good....so I am focusing on the kitty and trying not to focus on her numbers (easy to say - hard to do  ) I was just looking at her SS and today is day 28 for her Lantus pen - what should I look for to know if it is losing its effectiveness?

Hi Sherry & Zoe,
Good luck with the dosecrease. Probably the best indicator of the Lantus getting old and less effective is "wonky" numbers: sometimes normal, sometimes unexpectedly high. Another indication is if it gets "cloudy" looking, or has floating particles in it. When I used Lantus (with Stu) I never used it beyond about 35 days, but many people get lots more days from a pen. Others have found that the 28 days is really "it" and that their cats bgs automatically go "wonky" if they use it longer. ECID. A lot depends on how it is stored: it likes to be kept calm with temperatures that don't fluctuate too much; many beans say not to keep it in the door of the 'fridge, but I like to use the door because I think the rest of the 'fridge can get too cold. Unless you leave the door open a lot, or open and close it frequently, I don't think it harms the insulin to be kept in the door, but that's just my opinion. I keep a 'fridge thermometer next to the cardboard box in which I store my cartridge of Lev (wrapped in bubblewrap inside the little box). That way I can easily check the temp. and the thermometer is easy to see in the door of the 'fridge.

Have a great day, and thanks for visiting Rusty's condo,

I'm gonna say this is New Dose Wonkiness .....or at least that's what I am hoping!

Zoe had a good day.....if you didn't know her numbers were high, you wouldn't know anything was wrong with her. She has eaten well, played and is back to acting like Zoe....she hasn't looked this good since Feb/March...so it is nice to see. Love ya little girl.....no matter what color numbers you give me! cat_pet_icon
