Yesterday

Thank you for all the visits. I'm not going to lie, I'm very concerned about Trixie's situation. Yesterday afternoon, she started having some issues with walking again - having to stop every 10 or so feet to rest. It wasn't nearly as bad as Friday, but enough to warrant going to the vet. To be honest, we were somewhat prepared to let her go - she's just got so much going on now - but she was being so feisty in the office that we just couldn't do it yet. Long story short, the vet offered several options: x-ray and possibly re-tap; increase the Lasix; help her cross. It took us a long, long time to decide what to do...and we still changed our minds several times, but ultimately we increased her Lasix. The vet gave her an injection, and through today we're giving her 6.25mg every 8 hours, and after that 6.25mg every 12 hours (up from 6.25mg once a day).

I don't know if we made the right decision or not. Sometimes she seems perfectly fine and normal; other times, she seems tired and is breathing harder - and I don't know if that will change in either direction. But I guess we felt we needed to give her a chance, without doing anything too drastic (we knew we didn't want to put her through another tap), before we made any sort of undoable decisions. Admittedly I am both terrified of her going into a crisis, and terrified of making a permanent decision too early.

Her appy is still pretty decent and she's being social and snuggly. Right now her breathing seems pretty good. Obviously I'm making a note of that BG, but I can't let myself get too wrapped up in that right at this moment. Last night's BG was 92.

Prayers to all....

Amy

I had the same thing happen with my civvie Callie when she had stomach cancer. I took her to the vet prepared to let her go and she perked up so much she was jumping off the exam table and running around that I couldn't do it. It's not an easy position to be in. Make the most of each moment. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((Amy))) I'm so sorry. Hope the triple dosing and increased LASIK helps. Please give her extra kisses and scritches for me. These are for you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

That is one of the hardest decisions to ever make. You will know when it is time.
Make the best of every moment. I will keep you in my prayers.

(((Amy))) I don't know many things but I do know 100% that Trixie has gotten the absolute best care with you and DH. Zener told the animal communicator after he passed that it was a relief to be out of his body. That has always been a great comfort to me. I suspect that Trixie is ready and is waiting for you and DH to be ready. Whenever you are ready is the right time. She knows that you love her unconditionally, which is a great gift. We are thinking of you.

So sorry about the roller coaster, it's so hard to know what to do when our kitties are so present one and happy one moment and then struggling the next. I probably would have made the same choice as you guys. I hope the increase in Lasix brings Trixie some extended relief.
Sending many more hugs for you in the time of incredible stress :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((Amy))), It is never easy to make these decisions. I think that you did the right thing in increasing the Lasix and waiting to see if Trixie will respond. Always remember that Trixie will let you know when it is her time to cross. Keep on listening to your girl. All of us are sending prayers and vines, and, of course, lots of scritches to Trix.

Am, I'm so sorry to hear that Trixie isn't doing well. You have been so fantastic with her and I know just how hard these decisions are to make. whatever you end up doing it will be from love. Good luck with the increased Lasix.

Thank you for all the visits, everyone. At least for this exact moment, Trixie is looking pretty good - she's breathing well, getting around well, acting like Trixie. So I guess the increased Lasix is helping...but of course we need it to work when I cut back tomorrow, and we need her kidneys to be able to deal with it, too - although she has proven that she can survive pretty well on kidneys that are hanging on by a thread....

(((Amy))) I'm so sorry for all that is going on with Trixie:(. I just wanted to add my prayers and hugs and hopes that she will feel better. Give her some scritches from me, too. It's so hard to know what to do but you are very tuned in to her and she has the best beans a kitty could have. Hugs:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Amy, adding vines and positive thoughts for our TrixieGirl. I'm glad she's currently feeling ok, and hope that continues for a long time.
