Hi all! Rex is still doing very well! Last condo

I decided to try Young Again Zero yesterday. I had the sample for a while, but never opened it. I tested Rex then gave a few pieces to all cats. I tested Rex half an hour and an hour later. I wanted to see if it would impact him negatively and I actually got 44 an hour later, down from 50 on the first test. Weird Rex!

For those who feed YA, which do you use - the regular one or the mature one? Or does it not matter?

All the cats went wild for it so if I add that to the diet, mostly if I'm gone on vacation, I won't have to worry about one cat going hungry.

My other question is for anyone who has knowledge on vaccinations. I know rabies are a must, but are the others necessary? I need to bring Tanner and Keena in soon (I do 2 cats in early summer and 2 in late fall). Keena is due for his FVRCP vaccination. I know the owner has the final say on what their pets get. I tried to look up the law in Wisconsin to no avail.

Thank you! :bighug:

According to the manufacturer's website, you can feed "mature" once your cat is done growing. This can vary depending on the breed of your cat. Large breed cats (e.g., Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat) may not stop growing until they are 5 or 6. Most cats stop growing at around 2 yo. The mature version is lower in calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. If your cat has any kidney issues, I would lean toward the mature given the lower phosphorus.

This is information from Lisa Pierson, DVM's website on vaccinating. She's a vet who occasionally posts here and has considerable expertise on feline nutrition and other aspects of feline health.

Hi Mandy! My cats love the YA too. You could see them getting softer stools ( like soft serve ice cream) for a few days and then it should stop.

I figured out that 1 TBSP was about 49.66 cal. and I only give that amount once a day ( sometimes 2 times if I am going to not be home to dole out the raw food) 1 tbsp. of YA is equal to the 1 oz of raw food that I would give them at each feeding.

I went with the Mature Zero YA because the Phosphorous level is 0.50%

I only give my cats rabies now only because they do go outside and it's the law. But, if they didn't go outside anymore, I would stop that vaccine as well. I don't get anymore of the other booster because I feel they are necessary and that our animals are being vaccinated to death. You can request titers to be done for certain vaccines to see if they are still protected and usually they are still. I have done that with distemper and still under protection from vaccines giving 7 -8 years agao. Vaccines are big money makers for the vets. (Don't get me started on that)

I still need to figure out how many calories per ounce Friskies pates have and how much each cat should have.

I will go with the Mature Zero YA since all the cats are 11 years or older. I do have to watch renal function with Tanner - his crea is stage 2, but has been stable for a few years.

So if my cats aren't going outside, they don't even need rabies? How do I get around that requirement? Do you do the same for your dogs - not vaccinate besides rabies?

Legally, you are suppose to rabies vaccinate all animals regardless of them being inside or outside but , if they are indoor animals and you don't have any animal police coming to your door to see your rabies certificate, I wouldn't bother.

I do the same for my dogs. They are only getting the state required rabies and nothing more.

You can have a titre done. They'll do a blood draw to see if the vax is still active in their system.

Edited: The only pet I vaccinate is the dog. Too many irresponsible owners in this city. I'm not going to chance him getting sick from just going to the park and touching another dog's poop. Plus, he goes for grooming and the groomer requires certain vax.

I only do the rabies for all my cats. They are "indoor only" cats, but my wily male Bengal figures out an escape to the outdoors at least 2 or 3 times a year! And rabies is pretty prevalent where I live, so I'd rather not chance it. But I haven't done any of the other vaccinations in years.

Does your vet have an issue with you not giving any vaccinations to your cats? Did they ever get any vaccinations?

Nope. Not the regular vet or the specialists. They're housecats. They've only ever been vaccinated once - before they left the shelter years ago.

Thank you all for your replies. Now let's see some pictures!

This is Smokey waiting to lick the floor clean after the cats finish eating and I pick up the dishes.

I have these 2 pictures showing how they play musical dishes.

So cute! I was laughing at the musical dishes Aurora and Mulan do the same thing. They start off eating side by side and then Mulan is usually looking over at Aurora like ok move I want that one now and they switch. Funny kitties!

In the first picture, you can see Tanner looking over. I didn't realize when I took the 2nd picture, but everyone moved over one dish. Usually it's random. Rex often starts it.

There is never a day that my 2 girls don't completely crack us up. Civvie Mulan loves to burry her food after she's done. She does a full circle around the plate making sure every angle is "buried". It never gets old watching her do that!
