+6.5 = 94; Not sure if I should increase the dose

So this is where I seem to end up a lot. Celle is obviously not well controlled on 3.25 units, but she's highly variable. After a couple of readings over 400, today I got a 94. That's about as low as I'm comfortable with because she's home alone most days. I was planning to increase to 3.5 units tonight, but now I'm not sure if I should. I need some help. Would a higher dose mean that her lowest points would likely be lower?

i can't help with dose input...
but can surely bump you up for better eyes :-D

How do you pronounce Celle's name?

hi melissa! what are your goals for celle? are you trying for remission, or maintenance?

in answer to your question, if you increase the dose, yes, it will likely push the lowest points down.

without being able to get daytime checks, i'd probably hold the dose, if i were you. the SLGS plan, which doesn't require as much testing, would have you holding the dose when you see a 94 and doing a curve once a week.

what does it mean on celle's ss when your test number is over 2 hour blocks? is that a test on the half hour or something?

We're just trying for maintenance. I think if I could keep her under 400 all the time and under 350 most of the time, I'd settle. This dose isn't doing that though, in spite of the 94 (now 87 at +8.5). Maybe she'll keep it down today?? My husband did the dosing last night and tonight, which is unusual. Maybe his 3.25 is a little more than mine?

Yes, it's just easier for me to understand what I'm looking at that way; sorry if it is confusing.

She's named after the German city, so the real pronunciation would be something like Tzella, but my lazy American tongue just calls her Sella.

Binks keeps pointing at her name and saying "Look, mama...'SeeLee'.."
I told him he was probably wrong...but telling a kitty they're wrong??

If she was mine, I would increase. The increase might push her nadirs lower, or it might just flatten her out. There's only one way to find out for sure! 3.25 isn't getting the job done, though.

Now, because Celle is a cat, watch her surf in to a nice low preshot tonight just to prove me wrong. That's ok, I don't mind being wrong if it's a good change.

the 401 and 449 you've had today are in response to the 90's you got yesterday. it's a bounce. see celle go! dosing is based upon the nadir of a regular cycle, which you saw yesterday, not the numbers of a bounce. the bounce will clear, but it might take up to 3 days. as she spends more time in green numbers, she will get used to them and stop bouncing from them.

the reason i asked about her age is because you said you'd be happy to have her under 400/350 and i was wondering if she was ancient or something. to protect their organs, a cat needs to stay under 250ish - that's usually referred to as "renal threshold" for cats, although every cat is different.

i'm with libby - if she were mine, i'd increase, but that is TR protocol.

I know, I've just given up hope that we get where we need to be, and after so many 500s in spite of our efforts, it would truly be a big improvement.

OK, I'll try. Wish us luck.
