6/5/24 WATSON AMPS 361 w/meter, +3 411 w/meter

Reduced Watson's dosage .25 last evening. His number looked better amps but the +3 makes me think I might have had a fur shot? I wish the syringes with the 1/2 unit marks had a longer needle.
His Libra ended yesterday around noon but he's getting a new one at 3:30 today. The vet & vet tech are going to watch me do it myself and if I can they won't charge me. That will save me $45 per visit x 2 a month. The $90 install plus +85 sensors were really putting a strain on my pension so saving $90 will help.

Hi Rosie. I’ve been putting sensors on Ivy for over a year now and she’s a very feisty cat but somehow I manage to do it.
So if Watson is pretty mellow, I would think you would have no problem doing it. There is a Facebook group That’s really good at giving instructions and all the information you could need to try to do it yourself.
But if you’re going to try it at the vets office, that’s a great first step.

I buy the sensors at my local pharmacy and I am paying around $40 for each Libre 3.
If the veterinary office is charging you $85 each, You’re paying way too much.
Please feel free to reach out to me. If you need more information on how to try to save some money I would be happy to help you :bighug::):bighug:

@Staci & Ivy thanks for the info. The pharmacy is actually charging me $85 for two sensors but the Vet charges $45 to install it; so I did go to the vet today and they watched me do it but the vet actually had to hold it on with his finger for one minute and they still charged me $45 (Because they had to help ) which pissed me off. After the first 60 minutes passed, for the next hour and a half it kept telling me try again in 10 minutes and at the end it said sensor failed, install new sensor, so I basically wasted about $87 today which makes me wanna cry. Also, I bought skin tac To help hold the sensor in place, but my vet really wants me to use tissue glue, especially around the edges. I’m very frustrated!

Take a look at Ivy's spreadsheet if you want to see how Staci shows the difference between hand held and Libre meter values.
@Wendy&Neko I believe my spreadsheet looks similar. Every time I use the meter I add meter to the number; if it is a number from the Libra. I don’t add anything except the number. A.m. and p.m. pre-shot I use the Libra and the meter and I do note that

Jeez. That’s really a shame. I’m sorry it failed. I’d have to call the vet and ask for a refund.
By the way, you can contact Abbott and request a replacement for the failed sensor. (Just don’t say it’s for a cat).
I’ve had many replaced since they fail. I just keep the package with sensor # and make good notes of what happened.
(Don’t throw sensor away if you still have it).
I’d also have a discussion with the vet about the charge since it failed. Maybe they will give you another installment at no charge.

And what you’re paying is the going rate for the sensors, so that’s good.

I do use skin tac and have never used tissue glue. (The vets think the glue is necessary, but all the advice is not to use it. It can only harm their skin, which is already fragile. I’ve never used it and I have no intention of using it, so I’m with you on that.)
Since I don’t use the glue, Ivy‘s skin has never had a problem when I remove a sensor (very carefully and very gently). I use coconut oil, brava spray and baby oil and just gently with a Q-tip work around the sensor and It gently comes off.

And I always have several on hand since I never know when it may fail at the worst time. And they do fail at a bad time. So I try to be prepared.

I’m impressed by your tenacity :)
You’re doing great!

@Staci & Ivy I will be talking to the vet about either a refund or a new sensor. I did save the "bad" sensor but the vet threw away the box it came in so I'm out of luck I think.
Luckily I also keep a couple sensors on hand so I was able to put one on Watson all by myself and it activated at 8:50 last night, GO ME! I also bought some Brava spray, I used that to get the bad sensor off and it worked well (I was using olive oil but sometimes he chews them off before I can catch him)

Actually, you are ok, the information with the Sensor number should be stored within the reader (something like last 3 sensor numbers). Check through the menus and data on the reader, and Abbott can probably walk you through where to find the information if you ask them) Just say you threw out the box.

GREAT JOB intstalling the sensor yourself!! Do you cover it with a tee shirt or anything? Ivy ripped one off so I had to put something on her to cover it. Also, I use the tegaderm covering over the sensor to help keep her off the sensor and keep it in place.

I know I can find the sensor numbers for the ones that I can, but I haven’t been able to find them for the ones that happened during the night. I will check around more though. Yes, Watson does wear a shirt

He looks so adorable!!
The sensor number is for the sensor itself. So it corresponds to what would be on the package of the Libre. Each new sensor you put on Watson has a sensor number on the package. And I think on the Libre 2 it’s actually printed on the side of the sensor in small letters. That’s the number Abbot wants when you make a claim for a faulty sensor.

I don’t know what you mean about “the ones that happened during the night.”

The circled numbers happened during the night, I did not scan for them. When I didn’t put them onto my spreadsheet, I am just guessing what the actual number is because nowhere does it show that
