Simon was almost back to normal with eating, but it has gone down since yesterday. Simon is sneezing some and I really think he has an upper respiratory infection or something that is causing him to be congested. He has been on AB's for about 10 days. He is also moving very slow and seems stiffer than normal before his scheduled adequan shot. I am also wondering if possibly he may have a dental issue since sneezing can be a sign and not eating well. He is very careful when he eats. It also may still be nausea. I just don't know what to think. I'm calling the vet today and I'm sure they will want me to bring him in. Unfortunately, I really can't pay for a dental right now if they suggest that. I am so torn and feel so bad for my boy. I'll update later after talking with vet.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 not eating again

Poor Simon. With my Mario, there were times he became stiffer sooner than other times. We didn't follow a super-rigid schedule with his Adequan; we would give it when he started showing signs it was wearing off, and that usually ranged anywhere from 3-4 weeks. With both ABs and sneezing, it very well could be that Simon is having a combination of nausea and a viral URI that is making him not want to eat. With whatever is going on, I am sending a ton of prayers your way. Please keep us posted!!

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 not eating again

Georgia, so sorry to hear Simon is not eating after doing so well there for a time. Sending good Vetty vines and tons of healing vines and prayers. I hope it isn't a dental issue. Hope you can get in soon to the Vet. I'll check back later on an update. How is Missy coming along? (((Hugs)))

Morning Georgia ~O) ~O) ~O)

ah Simon, please feel better. I send many vines Georgia. Good luck at the vet. I think so, as Amy rote, that maybe he does have a viral URI, what with the sneezing and little appy. We have just had a round of that here. Keep us posted. Vines for Simon, hugs for you.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

I just heard back from vet. My plan is to get him a cerenia shot in case of nausea this afternoon, along with an adequan shot. It will have been 3 weeks instead of 4 for the adequan, but like Amy says, he may need not as rigid schedule for the Adequan. Vet does not think he needs a dental at this point, especially since his gums looked ok and he doesn't seem to have pain when I touch his face and mouth. I think the cold is making him feel crappy so I hope he gets over that quickly. This is just making me crazy since Simon was always my big eater.

I went home for lunch and he did eat about 1/2 of small can of food while I was there. Some of it was HC, but at this point, I don't care. I need him eating.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

I know how you feel about needing Simon to eat. I feel the same way about J.D.

Sending much better appetite vines to Simon.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

Sending tons of eating vines to Simon. That is the worst when the appy is poor. I'm glad he doesn't need a dental. That Cerenia has been very helpful for Zener. There is a pill form that is much cheaper and easier to give than those harpoon needles. We get it online.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

(((Georgia)))) I agree with Liz....the thing that stresses me MOST is when they won't eat. Sending you prayers for comfort and huge, enormous, ravenous eating vines for Simon.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

Sending healing prayers to Simon. I hope he starts feeling better and eating more soon.

Re: 6/4 Simon AMPS 169 +6 137 not eating again

Back from vet. I saw the new vet at the practice. Turns out we used to see her 14 years ago when I lived in another part of town. I always liked her. She looked at Simon's teeth. Lower bottom tooth in front is a little inflamed but not bad. She doesn't think it is the cause. Congestion is just URI and he will continue on AB. Discharge is clear. I am going to put him back on buprenex for a few days to see if that will help. Got cerenia and adequan shot. Also gave Pepcid when I got home. Simon didn't lose weight and vet says he is not dehydrated looking so fluids are not needed right now. All Simon needs to do is eat more!!

J.D. often "goes off his feed" when he's on ABs.

I sending Simon more good appetite vines for tonight. I guess you already tried baby food?

Hi Georgia, thanks for the update, now to get Simon to eat. I hope the Bupe and other meds help. Sending appy vines and lots of prayers and hugs.

One thing my vet suggested when my kitties have had the sniffles or a URI is to run the shower and get the bathroom steamy. You let them "steam" in the bathroom for about 15 -20 min or more. The steam helps to break up some of the congestion.

You might also think about using hot water or microwaving Simon's food for a bit. The point isn't to warm the food -- it's to make it smellier. Anything you can do to make Simon's food smellier may help with his eating. If his nose is stuffy, it may be contributing to the lack of appetite since cats need to smell their food.

I'm glad you got a good vetty report. I hope Simon's sniffles get better ASAP, and he starts eating again. Many happy appy and feel better prayers coming your way!

Eat your fuds, Simon! We want you to feel much better soon. Rusty takes Standard Process Allerplex for his chronic congestion and it has helped a lot. One capsule, opened up and mixed in a teaspoon of turkey baby food and a teaspoon of water. It makes a slurry. It smells like bouillon cube. Rusty loves it and thinks it is a treat. Marje told me about it and Rusty has been taking it for 88 days now. It loosens congestion. It is a human holistic product. No harsh drugs.
Hang in there Georgia.

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty
