Is anyone concerned that, by the numbers we've seen since the decrease, he still needs a bit more insulin?

Is it possible to do .5u at the am shot and .25 at the evening? His daytime numbers seem to run a lot higher than his evening numbers. Is this odd?

no... no... no... same same is bettah!
The difference is normal and is partly due to the dawn effect which, in effect and in short, creates more insulin resistance during the day time, especially morning.

Look at Tizon's SS for example, you'll see that his PMPS numbers started lowering before the AMPSs. A lot of other SSs show the same thing.

I think you are experiencing a little bit of rebound today.. just be patient.

Does that help?

Yes, Helene, thank you! I see what you mean about the PMPS and need to spend some more time looking at some other spreadsheets. This has just been an extra busy week. Patience, patience, patience...is so hard for me! ;-)

Hey J & J!! Looking at these numbers I also think that it is a new dose & needs to settle in for 6 cycles--Sure bounces happen all the time, but yesterday was really great so you can probably expect some nice numbers tonite or tomorrow--according to my crystal ball
Coming down nicely! Good Job today

actually dose reductions don't have to settle for 6 cycles, that applies more to increases. But for reductions, we do want to wait until any rebound clears before we decide that the reduction failed. Since rebound can take up to 6 cycles to clear, it often works out to be about the same thing as letting the dose settle for 6 cycles. Is that clear as mud?

It does look like Johnny's bounce might be clearing tonight, so maybe tonight or tomorrow we'll know if the reduction is holding. I bet it will.

Just to clarify what Helene was saying about dawn phenomenon. It's not so much a matter of insulin resistance in the truest sense of that term. In the mornings, there is a naturally occurring release of cortisol, a corticosteroid. This acts to put the body in a state of readiness for the stresses inherent in the day. As a result of the influence of the steroid, BG levels rise. If you look at some of the kitties who have been in OTJ trials, you'll often see that the AMPS number is the last to come down.
