Morning all,

Thanks to everyone that visited yesterday. I'm sorry that I didn't get to many condos, I did read about how you all were doing but didn't get to posting.

Yesterday was a mellow kind of day here. The kitties napped mostly, but came for attention, food, and to use the LB. I had said that it was rainy yesterday morning, but the sun came out and it was beautiful... Until after I got my second load of laundry hung out on the clothesline and then it rained, :lol: it alternated between rain and sun the rest of the day, and T-storms last night.

I was able to get Zeus to eat a couple of times yesterday AM and early afternoon. Last night I gave him the cypro.... Didn't seem to work very well, but I only gave him a 1/4 of the pill, I think the vet wrote that I could give 1/2 so I will try that next time. He had his fluids last night and again just didn't want to sit still. I got the 21 gauge needles that Marje recommended. While they are more comfortable to insert (for both of us), it does take longer to administer the fluids. I think he just gets impatient. He went poo in the evening, and it looked better. Then before bed I gave him a whole can of gravy lovers. He wasn't low, but it was something that he would eat. If it did anything to his numbers he came back down quickly because he was 27 points lower only five hours after eating. I fed him a FF appy after that test +9... He did get a spike out of that. Zeus had a normal poo this morning! Woo hoo, funny thing to celebrate ;-)

Zeus didnt eat a whole lot this morning before going BTB. I think I will go BTB too, and try to feed again in an hour or so. Will catch up on condos later too. I hope everyone is well, thoughts, prayers and hugs to anyone needing them today. have a great day!

Morning Kathie, sending appy and feel better vines for Zeus. I have the 20 gauge needles and they go fairly quick. Sometimes Mags also gets restless and starts walking off and the fluid squirting all over. :lol: Enjoy your btd and have a nice Sunday. Extra scritches and hugs to Zeus.

I hope Zeus continues to eat today. And YAY for normal poo!! (Here in LL, it's a wonderful thing to celebrate! (...and discuss, and describe in detail, and sometimes share photos of... :lol: :-D)

You may already do this, but when I give Ripley her daily fluids I make sure she has some food to eat and some of her favorite freeze-dried treats ready for crumbling over her food; the moment she seems squirmy or as though she's going to walk away, I crunch a piece of treat over her food. She gets easily distracted this way, and stays put. Sometimes I pretend to crumble treats into her bowl and trick her into eating more.

BTB sound so great... enjoy! I am glad that Zeus is eating a little better, feeling better too. I hope he has a good day today. Sending lots of vines for Zeus. It's nice to see the sunny yellow this morning, I hope he has a good cycle too. Surf well little one. I remember too with Mannie having to feed the gravy fuds, alot. It was what he would eat, so that's what I fed.

Wow, I was only going to BTB for an hour... And I do remember shutting the alarm off. I remember thinking I will just close my eyes for 5 min ang get right up... I slept another 2 hours. :o

Something kind of weird... After I got up, Zeus' eyes looked weird so I tested (he is pink... yuck!). But when I picked him up I felt some wetness from his bottom area, i grabbed some tissues and there was a bit of dampness, plus there was a little spot on my shirt when I put him down. I'm wondering if I just picked him up wrong and maybe pressed his bladder a little or if there is something else that I need to worry about? He has never peed outside of his box.... There wasn't anything where he was laying. Strange.

He did have a little snack after his test, and has gone BTB again. I will try some more food in a bit.

Thanks Dyana. I sure did, I can't believe I slept an extra 3 hours this morning. Zeus has only eaten a little less than a can of food so far. I'm going to try again in a bit.

Ann :lol: that happened to me last night too.... Zeus moved, out came the needle and a little spray of fluids. :oops: Thanks for the appy and feel better vines and the scritches for Zeus.

:lol: Josie, that's funny... Talk about in detail and sometimes share pictures, LOL. I agree though. Thanks for the suggestion about feeding while Zeus is getting fluids. He isn't crazy about the freeze dried treats, I could try a little chicken though. He doesn't like to be fussed with while he is trying to eat though, so I'm not sure if the chicken will keep him interested.

Thanks Michelle, the BTB was great :smile: thanks for all the vines, we so much appreciate them. I was really surprised that the gravy food didn't spike his numbers last night. I agree with what you said about Mannie, it's what he would eat, so that's what you fed. I was thinking about that yesterday at the grocery store as I was looking at cans of food that I would never have considered before. Hmmm, I wonder if he would eat this? Cute.

How sound asleep was Zeus?

My civvie, George (GA) was sound asleep and urinated in his sleep. Of course, he did this on my bed (where else?). I would keep an eye on this, though, just to make sure it doesn't happen again. If so, I'd call the vet. Cypro can cause urinary retention -- although, this doesn't seem to be the case unless you're not seeing the usual number of pees in the box. If Zeus isn't urinating as much and he's getting fluids, I would definitely call the vet.

Nice on the extended BTB - you must have needed it :-D Hope Zeus comes down for you.

Not sure about the wet spot, but we get them now and again here too. Did you smell it? \

Thanks Sienne, Zeus was awake when I picked him up, he was looking at me -i think telling me to leave him alone, he wanted to sleep. I was talking to him for a minute before i picked him up. He is still peeing, I would say the normal number of times, maybe even a little more, and really good sized pee balls. It's funny I can even tell which pee belongs to which cat. Zeus' is on top of the litter and more flat, while Smokey's is buried and round like a baseball.

I was wondering if it might be the meds or the extra fluids... I will definitely keep an eye on that, and call the vet if it happens again. Thanks Sienne!

:lol: hi Jane, yes I did. I've heard that's the true sign of a good Mom. :lol: It didn't smell like pee or like anything really.

Poo patrol is available to come sort out the mystery of the leaking fluids. We specialize more in one of the other Ps, but can improvise.



Sending appy vines, we know so well how worrying that can be. Come on Zeus, eat your fuds. Zener is eating his today.

Hi Kathie

I hope everything is ok with Zeus. I know the fluids go slower but, in the long run, it will be better for his skin....much less chance of building up any scar tissue especially if you move the site around. I gave Gracie squids when she was first dx and she was only 4 so she had a really short attention span and I did as Josie. I'm thinking GMTA cause I'd trick her on the treats too :lol: :lol: :lol:

Come down Zeus. Eat!! Feel better!!!

Woo hoo, the golden poo award, :-D Thank Anne. Zeus had another perfect poo this afternoon, made his momma so happy. And no more leakage. Knock on wood, I hope that was just a one time thing.

Thanks Marje. I appreciate your help with Zeus, and he needles and the fluids and all. I know the needle is better for him, and that's all I want. I just have to find a way to distract him :-D

And the good news...Zeus had another perfect poo this afternoon. I wanted to upload a couple of pics of Zeus but I guess I don't know how to as nothing that I've tried has worked. Time to go searching. I got a really cute pic of him eating this afternoon, tongue hanging out and all.

YAY!!! Big hugs to you and Big scritches to Zeus! I'm so glad to hear and see him eating! And good poos are the best news. Those pictures are so cute. He looks so comfy and happy. Smokey looks pretty comfy also :-D :-D

I love seeing pictures of our fur kids and must say you have some absolutely adorable kitties!

And where else could a golden poo award be given and celebrated! I love it. :lol:
 
I had a similiar experience a month or so ago, and finally thought it might be because J.D. sometimes presses himself against the walls of the litter box and must have gotten his hiney wet in the process, and then came to bed :-| . I woke up to feeling moisture while I snuggled with him, and didn't know what it was, and it didn't smell like pee, either.

I'm very glad to see him eating, and great news about poo!!!
I have the same wavy scratcher thing! My cats don't pay any attention to it, but it looks like Zeus likes his from the looks of it :-D :-D

I hope Zeus will learn to stay still for the fluid.
When I give fluid to Lucy, I sort of enclose her with my legs, so I'm not really restraining her, but I can stop her from moving when both my hands are unavailable.
I don't know if I can explain this but I sit next to her and make a kind of a circle with my legs with Lucy inside.
If she starts to move, I gently move my knees to block her (not a sexy sight :lol: )
This way I can use both hands for the fluid.
This works for Lucy because she is a "less is more" kind of a cat when it comes to restraining, and I think a momma's leg circle makes her feel secure more than restrained.
 
Also Kathie, I find it helps Lucy if I let the fluid run really slowly for the first couple minutes until a tiny bubble forms under her skin.
I think they feel most weird in the beginning when the fluid is just coming in, so I do this part really slow so she doesn't feel it.
I discovered that Lucy twitches and tries to move away in the beginning most.
Once there is a pocket of fluid formed, it seems she does't feel fluid coming in much any more.
I haven't bought a hanger yet, so I hold the bag lower in the beginning and let it drip drip drip until I feel a little pocket, and then I very gently push the bag to let it go faster, and sometimes push a little harder if she is being impatient.

I asked Marje before about pushing the bag, and she said she thought a hanger is better, so I'm going to buy it soon.
When I get one, my plan is to hold the bag lower at the beginning, and then hang high once the weird part is over, but this may be difficult as I will lose a hold of her when I stand up to hang the bag.
So I may have to come up with an idea to slow down the flow in the very beginning, maybe by bending the line a little or something...

Dyana, now that you've mentioned it... I did catch Zeus peeing in Smokey's LB yesterday and he was crouched so low that it almost looked like he was sitting down. And when he got up I was surprised that he had peed because I didn't hear the stream. Thanks for mentioning it.

Mariko,, thank you for all of the advice with the fluids. I currently put Zeus on the couch, facing the back near the arm and I kneel in front of him, but he still gets up.The bag of fluid is hanging on a clothes hanger from a hinge on the door, just so that it could be hanging. I think if the vet wants us to do the fluids on a regular basis I will buy a hanger too to make it easier.
