Good evening, all. Another busy day here. Asking you all say a prayer for my best friend and her family as they mourn the loss of her mom's most beloved dog, Bob. He was diagnosed with Cushings and diabetes last week, but the vet suspected other things were up... his mouth was full of rotting teeth despite a dental last fall and daily toothbrushing, and test results strongly suggested liver cancer as well. Because he also had severe arthritis, the vet elected not to treat either the Cushings or the diabetes... diabetes wasn't that severe yet (they were to start hometesting), and the cortisol overproduction from the Cushings was the only thing making the arthritis bearable. My friend's mom is the textbook reason for why doctors recommend PTS for diabetic pets... she would have had to be monitored more then he would have. So Bob, being the sweet, lovable football-ham of a chihuahua that he was, took all of those decisions out of his family's hands. He had gotten markedly worse over the past couple days, barely eating or drinking. My friend took him to the vet tonight, and cradled him as she gave him the last gift any human can give the pet they love. They are all having a hard time tonight, but I am comforted through my tears, knowing that sweet, loyal Bob is on his way to bridge. I like to think my Miss Belle will be there to greet him. Willie and i will be lighting candles tonight to illuminate Bob's path.

In other "life is funny in what it throws at you all on the same day" news, I was at a local shelter today to drop off some donation items, and fell in love with two different cats, one of which will most likely be Willie's new companion once we return from Iowa. Though, I'm not sure how I'm going to choose! The first is a little male kitten, 2 months old and just neutered two days ago. He's an orange shorthair who is already a little lover. The other is a 1 year old stunning female named Ashes who is a pale grey/tan tortie. She is too is quite the sweetie, who loves other cats. You can see them here. The orange guy was just given the name Buttercup today, and he's in the litter shown as Avacado. She was actually his cagemate and she too was adorable. Wayside Waifs is an amazing shelter here in KC... I was blown away by their wonderful facilities, and know that the supplies I've provided will get in the right hands.

Willie continues to do great, even if his numbers aren't as great as I'd like them to be. Last night was a great cycle, but we're back up today. Depending on how tonight goes, we may add the drop back on his dose in the near future.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening. Heading over to the apartment one last time tonight!

I'm sorry for your friend :YMSIGH: Please tell her we give her our heartfelt condolences and ciber hugs.

That is neat, though, that you will soon have a new baby

Hi Christie, I'm sending some vines and prayers for your friend and family with the loss of their dog, Bob. How sad for her and family. You're a good friend. That's great you're making room in your heart and home to give a furbaby a home. They are so adorable. When is your trip to Iowa? Take care.

Re: 6/30 Willie AMPS 121, PMPS 131 Remembering Bob.

Hi Christie,

I'm so sorry to hear about Bob. You know with a great name like that, he was just part of the family. My prayers are with them.

No way am I going to advise you to pick which kitty b/c I would take them all!

I just saw that you're from Kansas City, MO. I love KC! I used to travel to Overland Park for work all the time and was probably there at least once a week or every two weeks. Some of my favorite restaurants are in KC though it's ironic I still have never had KC BBQ. Definitely one of the most underrated cities in the US!

Re: 6/30 Willie AMPS 121, PMPS 131 Remembering Bob.

Christie I am so sorry. Please pass on the hugs. When I was reading about cushings I read about cushings masking other issues like pain from arthritis and once you medicate for cushings quality of life can tank depending on the issues. Your friend made her decision out of love. Hugs.

OMG Ashes is just a doll!!!! I am biased - kittens will all get adopted but its harder for the non kittens to find their perfect forever home. You made me smile that your heart is open to adopting.

Re: 6/30 Willie AMPS 121, PMPS 131 Remembering Bob.

Hi Christie - I am sorry to read about Bob - how sad. My prayers are with them. Travel safely Bob, land gently at the bridge.

and ah heck... get them both! Ashes is very cute, and a kitten? yes! i vote for both! one can never have to many furkids! Good luck with your decision. I miss having younger cats, kittens, Mannie is our baby at 14, the eldest is going on 18.

Enjoy your stay there. and Willie - you be good!

Re: 6/30 Willie AMPS 121, PMPS 131 Remembering Bob.

My deepest condolences to you and your friend about Bob...many prayers are being said for them.

Michelle took the words right out of my mouth! Get 'em both!!! Get 'em both!!! I always get so excited when I hear about other folks adopting pets...it's so much fun!

thanks, guys... i will pass along the condolences.

We are headed to Iowa on Sunday, so we'll be around this weekend. My mom has wireless internet, so the laptop will be along for the ride and we'll be able to actually catch up on everyone! KC is a great place with great places to eat... you must come back for BBQ, MauiGuppy!! I'm partial to OK Joe's myself, though I love many of the smaller spots too. The food truck thing is really taking off here as well, so there's like a rebirth on the food scene... fun times!

You guys are a TERRIBLE influence! Wille's going to be cross enough about one kitty coming into our house. Two might be unforgivable!!   He's also making so much progress that I don't want to add TOO much stress for him. Plus, the pet licensing laws are really strict in my new town... and because it is a small town with a fully functioning city government, the animal control department does patrol a great deal. We are only allowed to license 2 cats, and while you can get a variance for more, it is a $100 annual fee, plus they do a home inspection and seek permission from your neighbors!   While this is the first city in which Willie has been an official resident, I'd like to play by the rules.

Really leaning towards Ashes. She's still a baby... only 1, but just such a sweet, gentle soul. And she's gorgeous!! The pictures really don't do her justice... her coat is just stunning, and she has the sweetest little face. I think that her gentle nature would be good for Willie, as would her playful side as it would keep him active. I may give the shelter a call tomorrow and see if I pay them the donation fee if they would hold her a week for me. I don't want our introductions to be made on a 5 hour car ride!!

U beanz iz not kewl. Mah bean iz talkin bout bringing a stinky ole kitten home, an' u r tellin her to get two!?!?! When one is an annoying little baby, an' de other is a TORTIE?!? De Binks haz torties! Dey scare me!!!   I like being king of dis castle, thank u very much!! so pleaz tell de bean u were wrong, an she shouldn't bring home any kittehs at all. Nope, none. Dat is all.... --Willie

Hi Christie, Please extend our sympathy to Bob's family. It is so hard to have to say farewell to a fur kid. Your friend gave Bob the best, loving gift by letting him go.

I think it's wonderful that Willie will have a little sister to keep him on his toes. He can teach her to play kitty croquet. Good luck with the adoption. You are doing a good thing!

Have a safe trip,

Ella & Rusty

I'm so sorry I'm just now getting to sending our prayers for your friend and her mom at Bob crossing the RB. And also to you, Christie. We will light a candle for Bob.

I vote for both kitties. The more the merrier.

bob sounds like a wonderful companion - who will be so greatly missed. what a sweetie.

i feel a special something for the non-kittens too, for the same reason karrie mentioned. everyone wants kittens and ashes' story pulls at me. she's already been in a shelter long enough to have transferred from one to another. poor little girl needs a home.

but being me, i'd probably bring both of them home. i'm weak for a furry face.
