hi dear LL Family,
giving you an update on Rocket....
yesterday when i got home from work I had the feeling something was wrong with Rocket and so the usual routine is to give him his bupe and then subq and then shortly after his insulin.....i attributed the mild tremors to dehydration and continued to monitor him...about half hr after he gets his insulin he usually asks for a small snack but not so this time around....so i started to get my anthenas up and monitored him closely....he was still trembling a little bit and i thought that he was now hydrated and the bupe also would have kicked in....so i waited a little bit longer and then it was time for him to get his next med the pred and he barely ate the snack to cushion his tummy for the med.....i said to dh that he didn't look himself and by about 45 mins later (at this point 4 1/2 hrs since i got home from work) had gone by and i felt him getting hotter....i took his temp and it was elevated....in my haste and panic state of mind i proceeded to prep him one of the abs i have here from the last round of abs he didn't finish...i figured if it is an infection i would like to catch it early enough and i pilled him the ab...in the meantime i made sure that i gave him a small snack via syringe feeding while i got ready to take him to the ER.....
at the ER and just seconds before our arrival they had a big emergency.....so being the long weekend here they were short staffed cause we waited a good 2 hrs before being seen....he was still trembling but tried to nap while dh and i waited anxiously.....
Rocket's file at the ER is pretty big and so each ER vet asks the same darn questions....and this one was zooming in into his diabetes blah blah blah....i told him i knew what i was doing with his insulin and that it was not diabetes related....after a brief examination Rocket got quite the workout and i told the vet that that in itself was music to my ears even if he didn't think so....Rocket was going to be admitted overnight but since he was extremely cranky the vet opted to let him come home with me provided i gave him subq cause he was dehydrated even though he got fluids just a few hours prior....we were sent home with some abs....BUT here is the thing
we are getting into the zone when he will be starting to have more issues with the masses he has....the fever is not infection related as the bloodwork ran at the ER didn't indicate infection....they took his temp also and by then it had come down a touch....so i guess my haste panic thinking in giving him the ab may have brought down the temp...hard to say
the vet said we are running out of options with him...that the abs may or may not work this time around and if they do the question remains on how long that will last....
this leaves me to monitors his QOL with a magnifying glass.....i haave to think what is best for him and his paramount QOL ahead of anything else....i truly don't know how much longer we have....but i feel time is running out sort of speak.....the vet was very grim on every possibility and he was of the opinion that i may have to pts Rocket very soon....i told him my best interest in on Rocket and not myself....
i have not slept since we got home at 1 am.....he ate a little bit and i gave him subq ....i took his temp at 5 am (amps time) and it was 38.4C (sorry not sure what that is in F).....and so it has come down lots....he got his ab at that time and i have been monitoring him hourly....he has eaten but from this ordeal i know he is tired.....
taking one day at a time....and not sure i want to see him have crisis much longer....the idea that he was cranky gave me the gasoline i needed to keep this running....be it short lived....i will continue the fight so long as i know he still has the desire....
i am so tired but more worried than tired....please....keep those good thoughts and prayers coming....
so this is the latest with Rocket......
thinking of Randi in her time of great sorrow on the loss of Max.......
