Morning all,

I can tell Ms. Musette is feeling much better this morning after finally getting back down into the blues last night, she woke Dh and I with purrs, head butts and biscuit making. I really think it was all the fireworks going off around here that had her staying in the yellows the last few days. Just looking back over my notes her numbers started going up at the times when the warzone was the loudest, but yesterday's heat did two things that helped her out, first it kept a lot of folks inside enjoying the AC, and we also had the house closed up and the AC running so between the two the noise was pretty much nil.

I'm getting much better at reading her moods, ad I hink I'm starting to be able to pick up on her subtle clues of when she is stressing out and running high, and when she is feeling good and in the blues. AS the last few days when she was going sky high she was grumpy not wanting to cuddle or play more than just a few swipes and mostly wanting to stay huddled up on the bed sleeping. This morning she is bounding around her room, leaping out from under the bed to get my feet. And just plain being cute.

She'll settle in. Are people blowing off fireworks around your neighborhood? We have a ban here, due to brush fires, but it's getting lifted in most counties for the holiday.
Midora always hated loud noises (I atribute that to our home being broken into when she was 1 1/2). Cedric could care less...

Nice numbers for Musette and it is so good to hear that she is feeling good. Headbutts and purrs are the perfect way to start a Thursday! Tarragon gets stressed out by a trip to the vet, storms, visitors, and any type of remodeling. I just pretty much ignore those numbers and never try to do a curve if any of that is happening. Musette is probably just stressed from the noises. Sounds like she is already snapping out of it.

Have a wonderful Thursday!!

Re: 6/30 Musette AMPS 260

Oh yeah our neighborhood sounds like a warzone, actually I think it is probably quieter in Iraq at the moment, the neighbor right next door to us insists on setting off quarter sticks of dynamite! The folks directly across the street, have about half a dozen kids that have been shooting off artillary shells and they just lifted the ban on those. Last year you were only allowed to buy 6 shots, this year with the ban lifted you can get 80 shots, and they are using those to full advantage. Then two houses down their grandkids are here from a state that doesn't allow fireworks so they are literally shooting off hundreds of dollars worth every night. And because we are right on the edge of town, we are right inbetween the county fair ground, and two large parks as well as the local stock car track that all have several big displays this week. Its been loud enough here to rattle the windows, and knock stuff off shelves.

Last year it got so bad that I had to have the vet give me sedatives for the furries. King especially isn't handling it well, since he wa just shot a few months ago, I have to keep him on prozac to keep him from shaking and cowering. Poor guy. I should have thought about that when Musette's numbers sky rocketed, but Maxwell ws being so laid back it didn't cross my mind, until DH reminded me that Maxwell was a New Orleans cat, so he has lived through lots of Mardi Gras, as well as 2 hurricanes, and multiple 4th of Julys as well as all the traffic that a big city has. When you add up the fireworks, just moving across country, being shaved nekkid, and losing the only home you have ever known in 11 year, no wonder Musette is stressed out. So for now, I'm just going to hold her at the .5, give her a break from the constant ear pokes and work on reassuring her that she is wanted, loved and safe. And test her enough to make sure she is safe and worry about adjusting her dose once her world stops spinning so fast for her. I'm almost betting once she settles in, gets her bearings and the loud booms stop, her numbers will come way down.

Right now it is legal for them to set off fireworks from 9am to 11pm, and everyone is taking it to extremes. Other than the stressed out numbers, she is doing great, her urine is normal, pooping good, eating like a little piggie, purring, playing and preening. Just kicking myself for not realizing how upsetting all this has been on her, I was so worried about her because she as so neglected in the past, that I forgot she needs someone to just love her up, and make her feel valued and loved. One of those look at the whole cat kind of thing that is so easy to forget when we are trying so hard to help them.

Re: 6/30 Musette AMPS 260

Hi Mel,
How awful to have all that shooting and blasting going on! Your poor furkids! Musette is doing very well considering what she has been through. Your love is what is doing it.

It sounds like your neighbors are getting ready for an invasion. Do they belong to one of those paramilitary groups? Scary indeed. They sound like marine rejects!

I wish that the 4th of July will hurry up and get here so that you'll have some relative peace and quiet. Only 4 more days!!
I can't believe that artillery shells (I assume they are not live shells) are an approved type of "fireworks"! Or dynamite, for that matter. Don't people need a construction permit to use dynamite?

Anyway, I'm glad that Musette is adjusting and doing well. I hope your hot weather continues so that all the "neighbors" will stay inside!!

Great to see Musette adjusting so well but poor fur gang, all stressed out from your wacky neighbors. I never understood why people want to play with fireworks. They're injuries waiting to happen.

Only a few more days of this kids!

Re: 6/30 Musette AMPS 260

I don't get it either, now I like the big pretty sparkly types that make the big colored 'flowers' in the sky was well as the next person, but those that just go BANG or worse yet the ones that are called "screamers" that omit just a high pitched screech, those suckers hurt my ears, so I can only imagine what they sound like to the furry babies, Those I just don't see the entertainment value of. And yes, they are just accidents waiting to happen, for as much has the neighborhood has sounded like a war zone, there hasbeen just as many wails of sirens, more than likely headed out to treat those that have tried to blow a few fingers off. Last year, Jon's band was playing a street dance where an elderly couple had a team of horses giving the kids hay wagon rides when one of these idiots tossed a firecracker in front of the horses, well as can be expected, the horses reared and bolted, and several of the kids got hurt. Absolutely no common sense in some folks.

I'm just happy that they shot down the law that would have allow folks here to shoot off fireworks for New Year's eve, we have enough idiots firing guns in the air, we don't need them any better armed. And of course those that do the firing of guns, never think about the law of gravity, that which goes up, has to come back down...sheesh.

That must be why there aren't any tree's out there!!!!!!
Just wanted to check in on the sweet girl. By the way, Craig was asking for more pictures. I think he misses her. ;-)

Awww how sweet and yeah it is probably why we have no trees...lol. Tell Craig I'll send him a bunch of new pictures tomorrow, I'll have to get one of her in her sweater tht Jon insists she wear when we turn up the AC so she doesn't get cold, even though I have told him she still has more hair than some of our short hairs..lol. It is actually Maxwell's old sweater so I'm not really in a time warp since it is black and orange with a huge pumpkin on it, because we adopted Maxwell last October 15th. She is still determined that she likes yellow again today, but she is bring herself down a tiny bit today after eating, dare I hope that once the stress of the move and the 4th of July is over that perhaps, just maybe? Not going to say it, but she did bring herself down just a tiny bit.

I'm also beginning to wonder if she is just really carb sensitive, so starting to track the carb counts on what she is eating, she seems to be getting better drops on lower carb food. So far when she has had food under 5% carbs she is hitting the blues. She is definitely teaching me something now I have to figure out what I'm learning.
