Hey Rochelle,

I look for your update at +2 here.
Here's the link to yesterdays condo (thread)

@Kris & Jane (GA)
@Bobbie And Bubba

Just tagging you so you can follow todays thread, best to go with the new one. Yesterdays got too long.

When they bounce, we just ignore the bounce and continue as normal.

So continue doing what you were doing.

(sorry I can't remember what that was)

Just remember that Jelly sometimes does this and comes back down. Because of the depot, he might settle back into lower numbers for at least a cycle or two.

Here is the definition for bouncing taken from our stickie and is probably the best explanation:

Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast.The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).

As far as tonight goes, if you could get a +11 today and the PMBG so we can see if JB is rising or still dropping and then we can advise better and help advice how your sister can best serve JB tonight.

like is this good or bad and if i am away tonight i cant expect my sister to test as much as i do and have should he have insulin?
It's neither good nor bad, Bobbie gave you a good explanation of bounce.

As for your sister needing to test, the bounce can last 6 cycles, but sometimes less.
Jelly has shown that he can drop dramatically like he did on June 1st.

1) Will your sister be able to get a +8 this afternoon? (if she is about and can I would ask her to please do it I'm worried that he'll pull a dive like he did on june 1st)

2) If she can't, then give him a snack now as you leave, or have her give him a snack at some point before +10

3) If your sis can get a +11, and pmps post the number and we can guide her. If the pmps were to be lower than it is now or indeed lower than +11, it could be a sign of the bounce starting to clear and she would have to be prepared to test into the evening to keep him safe.

I will talk to her brb

Oh, yeah, I forget you were leaving at +8. Thanks Gill.

So I just got home and Jelly wouldn't let my sister near him and bite her when she tried to test him ..... so all she did was fed him and I just got him it's 10: and I had no idea he would be that way with someone else

Complete your spreadsheet girl ;) (Hope you had fun today!!) That sucks that he was a jerk to your sister. Maybe try to have her over to spend time with him when there is no poking or prodding involved! heehee

Ah, that stinks but, at least he was safe while you were gone. I like Darcy's idea for her to spend some non-poking time with him to get familiar.

Hope your event was fun.

OK. Please put that info on your SS. Test at +2 and post here. Also put that on your SS. We need a constantly updated SS so we can see what's happening when you have a question, Rochelle.
now hes a 216 gosh hes a nutty cat?? whats that mean it was low carb dinner i doubled checked food list it was fancy feast salmon and shrimp feast

He's bouncing up higher in reaction to the greens he had today. He did this on 01 June after low numbers. He doesn't seem to bounce very long though.
Ok so tom I go to school so you think if I do .50 and leave auto feeder with food +1 +2 + 3 and I can come home +5 for the week and check to be sure ? Think this is safe bet ? I will be shooting at 7:30 am tom and Tuesday by 7 am

It's important to see his AM preshot number tomorrow before making a final plan for his dose. Yes, have those snacks in the autofeeder and checking him at +5 is great if you can do it. Did you have to use food today to keep those greens from going lower?

Once 2 table spoon of fancy feast with gravy 10% carb food for +2 and then his regular low carb food to feed the curve .... I'm still doing that right ? How am I at making my own plan and monitoring is it accurate

Probably best to use regular LC food for the autofeeder snacks. The gravy food is your "rescue food" to give when the BG is sliding down too close to 50. You bumped up the dose to 0.5 u tonight even though you had those nice greens today after giving only 0.25 u this AM and no insulin at all last night. Keeping the dose at 0.25 u would have been the way to go.

Bouncing will likely keep him safe tonight. Here's my suggestion for tomorrow's AM dose: give only 0.25 u and set up the autofeeder with those snacks. If you don't hear anything different from one of the Lantus experts go with that plan.

Have to sign off now, Rochelle.
