6/29 Zeke AMPS 249;+3.25/130;PMPS 243 Miss the good ol'days

Yesterday


Well Zeke started high again but had dropped some at +3. Well, he HAD been doing pretty well this morning but we've just spent the last hour removing the Fentanyl patch and residual adhesive. We were not able to get the adhesive off completely. We used olive oil. We're wondering if it's imperative to get all the adhesive off? Obviously Zeke will lick the area and ingest what's left. We have tried and he's become extremely stressed by the effort. We have gotten most of it off. Any advice greatly appreciated.

i think i'd leave it alone for now and come back in a couple of hours and try to get more off. maybe use butter or coconut oil for the next round. i can imagine that he's not liking the attention to one spot.

the things that typically get sticky adhesives off aren't good to ingest. i think i'd give the vet a call if you can't get most of it off.

Thanks Julie and Sienne for your responses here and via PM. I think we got enough off but we'll check again a little later. He's snoozing now.

Oh, one thing I should have mentioned in this morning's post. We're not 100% sure (as we have 3 fur babies) but we think Zeke has diarrhea. I had to leave him yesterday and fed him a little FF 3% ( he usually eats wellness). Perhaps that upset his stomach. Problem for me is that if the Onsior is the cause we might want to discontinue giving it to him. Zeke never used to have issues with diet changes but within the last two months our kitties have had several reoccurrences of diarrhea. Just my luck I changed his diet yesterday - now I can't know for sure the cause. :YMSIGH:

yuck - and fats can cause diarrhea, so if he licks off a bunch of oil it might be even worse . . . . you might want to make sure and wash off any remaining oil.

I hope you get the diarrhea resolved and he starts coming back down into green. Paws crossed.

Is it possible the Onsior has sugar in it? Was it compounded?

Hi Marje,

Thanks for the well wishes. Onsior is not compounded and doesn't include sugar. Don't know why these higher BGs. Paws crossed here as well.

watch for signs of infection, laura. any tenderness in his mouth, pawing, chewing on one side, etc. higher BGs were punkin's first sign. We found clindamycin worked on the oral infections. I don't know anything about the Onsior or Flagyl. If his numbers don't trend back down, i'd probably call the vet and ask about possibility of infection.

Thanks Julie for the advice. We haven't noticed any signs of discomfort/infection. Zeke hasn't been back to the LB since this morning so we don't know yet if the diarrhea is better, worse or the same. Our vet told us to expect his BG to be all over the place. She didn't elaborate and we didn't ask (but we were hoping that wouldn't be the case). So, I don't think she'll be too concerned about his higher BG but will definitely mention it if we think Zeke's not improving or appears to not be feeling well. Thanks again.

Yeah, we'll breath easier once Zeke's numbers are back to normal. Right now though, we just want to be done with the pilling. Thanks for dropping in. Sending green vines to Lovey. Wishing you both a great day.
