It's strange having it be Friday night and Pumbaa isn't taking a major dive. I was kind of getting used to that. Hah!

Last night, Sheila (of Beau & Jeddie fame) was kind enough to take a look at Pumbaa's SS, and observed Pumbaa's pattern of one day of lows followed by bounces and days on end of flat highs. She suggested a dose decrease as that could be a sign of Pumbaa getting too much insulin.

That totally confounded me as I never would have thought that his pattern was a sign of too much insulin. I also researched this, and, while I know that some people don't think that chronic rebound/Somogyi Rebound has ever been proven to occur in cats, I found a post where someone's cat was going through the same pattern, and her vet told her to decrease the dose by .5U and hold it there for three weeks. Beth's cat, Atlas, is now doing great and has never gone back up to the highest dose he was on when the vet caught this pattern.

So tonight, I reduced Pumbaa from a fat 2.0U BID to 1.50U BID, and my fingers are crossed for some good numbers in the future.

I truly appreciate Sheila for looking at Pumbaa's SS last night, as I know she is very busy dealing with Jeddie's problems right now. Thank you, Sheila! (((HUGS)))

I also want to thank Dale (of Chip and Dale fame) for bringing something up in one of my threads which made me question the fact that I was massaging Pumbaa's injection area after injecting the Lantus. Big NO NO, as we found out, thanks to Kathie, of Zeus and Smokey fame! This is going to be a very hard habit for me to break, as I've been doing it for over a month, and automatically do it now with the fingers that were tenting his skin. Yikes! If both Kathie and I were doing this, I wonder how many other people are, too? I think we need to spread the word.

Well, now I need to change my Patience Pants into heavy duty ones, and sit back and see how Pumbaa does on this reduced dose.

Have great weekends, everyone!

This will take nerve. nailbite_smile

At one point I thought he should be back at 1.75. But then after you were there for a while after that BGS, it seemed like he was getting no traction. It's apparently easier to ease in from below the dose, than to nudge your way back down.

We need a "fingers crossed" emoticon. *LOL*

I was hesitant to do this this afternoon, but then figured I don't have anything to lose but some time. Right?

I'm looking forward to testing over the next couple of days, but don't expect any dramatic changes until the shed empties a bit.

It figures. After being high all week, and never dropping below a yellow number, Pumbaa decides to hit 154 at 10:30 tonight. Why does he always drop like this on Friday nights???? *LMAO* I guess I get more couch potato time instead of going to bed, because I want to test him around midnight (his +6) to make sure he isn't taking a dive.

Good news, ketones are NEGATIVE! I finally caught him and put him in the litter box when his bladder was full. :)
