Good morning everyone!! Congratulations to Boomer!!!! Happy OTJ Party!!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=120972

Billie, what's that yellow AMPS all about? The past 5 have been nice and blue. I did shoot 45 minutes late last night, but I'm not sure how much of an impact that would have. We'll see what her +2 looks like!

I'm wondering if I should stick to 2% carb or just try it as an experiment to see what happens. I have been giving her 4% to 6% especially early in the cycle hoping it would slow her quick drops, but she still has some crazy drops up her sleeve. She has been having some lovely AM cycles with some less lovely preshot numbers, especially at night, and now this morning. Would 2% maybe help to even out her numbers? Or does that margin not make a whole lot of difference? The food experiment of feeding at PS, +1, +2 and +3 definitely seems to be working for her, so I'm sticking to that.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 food experiment question

i don't have much experience tinkering with food carbs, so i'll leave that question to someone else. i have a hard time imagining that there is much difference between 2% and 4%, though.

however, i went back a couple of days in Billie's condos and i'm still thinking that the biggest thing you could adjust in the day cycle is to not feed later in the cycle. when i see the amps consistently lower than the pmps (ok, not today, of course, but most days) and you say that they're not eating in the night cycle after +4 but sometimes in the day cycle they're eating til +8 or even +10, i think that i'd stop feeding later in the day cycles. i suspect those late afternoon snackies are raising Billie's pmps.

Dawn Phenomenon causes high morning BGs. I just wonder if Billie's pmps would improve if you didn't feed her after am+5 or so. I didn't feed punkin after +3 except for some boiled chicken after pokes.

You might give that a 3 day trial and see what happens.

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 food experiment question

Shooting late will drain the shed, so the bounce this morning isn't surprising or that bad. i agree w/ Julie, there really isn't much difference between 2% and 4%. Individual batches can vary too. The list data is based on twice yearly spot checks.

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 food experiment question

Thank you Julie! I will try not feeding after +4 for the next 3 days starting now. I may have some angry cats on my hands since they are still recovering dry free feeders, but they'll get over it, I think... I left out about 2 oz when I went to bed around +3 last night. It's possible that Billie didn't get around to eating it until later in the cycle, and maybe that spiked her AMPS.

Thanks for the Dawn Phenomenon link. The relationship between the pancreas and liver makes more sense to me after reading that.

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 food experiment question

Thank you Ann! That's good news about 2% and 4% not being too different, because Billie's current favorite is Merrick's Turkey Pate and that's 5%. I can always mix in some 2% to bring down the carb number a little, but Billie will be glad to hear that it's not a big deal

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 +2.25 143 food experiment question

some cats are more carb-sensitive than others, so you just need to observe with Billie and see. It does often help with bouncy kitties to give some carbs. zero carbs are not necessarily better than some, especially not with bouncy cats.

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 +2.25 143 +3.75 62

Thanks! I will keep experimenting with the food I have been giving for now but stop feeding it around +4 or +5.

Billie came right down into green! I'm glad she doesn't like hanging out in yellow for long!

Re: 6/29 Billie AMPS 238 +2.25 143 +3.75 62 +4.5 51 +5 52 +6

I will have to start that food experiment tomorrow! She is surfing in the 50s which is lovely, but I have to go out in a half hour, and I want to leave some 2% out just in case she needs it.

Re: 6/29 Billie PMPS 238

great cycle for billie today!

good call on the food too - steering low numbers always trumps everything else. you're definitely getting the hang of this! :-D
