Hi all,

sorry I haven’t posted for a bit. Life has gotten busy. Bear is doing really well number wise and seems to be doing great. I took him for bloodwork yesterday and the vet called tonight and left a message. He has elevated kidney and liver values. I’ll get more info hopefully tomorrow although I think she might be out of the office until next week. She wants to talk about diet and I’m scared she wants to put him on prescription food. I’ll do some research on here tomorrow, I think I remember something about kidneys and low phosphorus food. If anyone has any recs please let me know! Thank you all.

Hi Meridith and beautiful Bear! :)
Don't let the vet talk you into starting a prescription diet for the kidneys. Find out first what the results are and post them here.
If he has elevated kidney numners...is he at all dehydrated?
Putting cats onto a low protein, high carb diet, which is what the prescription diets are, is old thinking.
I would look at feeding him a low phosphorus, low carb diet. I will give you the like below.
Look for foods that are 250-200mg phosphorus /100 kcals.
Also Weruva has a new range of low phosphorus foods out. Have a look at their website. They give you values for all their foods anf many of their other foods are lower in phosphorus as week.

Hi Bron and Sheba,

Thank you! That’s great to know. I just bought him some Wereuva BFF so will check out how that ranks. Awesome about their new line. Thank you for all this advice.

I don’t think he’s dehydrated. He drinks a good amount of water. But it’s certainly possible. She mentioned doing subq fluids but I guess with heart issues you have to be careful with that. We also have to switch his asthma medication over now too.

Oh he’s just gorgeous!
Do you take him out with you.? Aren’t you worried he’ll take fright and run away?
He comes to work with me everyday and we took him camping! He wears a harness and leash when he’s out. He’s fearless and not scared of anything. But I of course keep a close eye on him. He always stays with me and he can’t run very fast so even if he did somehow get away I could definitely catch him.
