Julia's first shot was tonight and we'll go ahead with the 0.5 to start.
PMPS 256

She is working on 1/2 can of FF (lo carb) with a little FF chicken appetizer sprinkled on top. She's not normally an evening eater so I wanted to make sure it was something she would eat and even now she only ate about 1/2 of it if that.

What would be the recommended test times for tonight? I read at least +3, +6, +9 but wanted to double check that I shouldn't do it any earlier. Maybe a +2?

Feed again in an hour or two?

And ketones were negative last night.

ETA: We went ahead and started. Yay! :-D lol I know it won't always be that easy but I got the 0.5 in the syringe on the first try perfectly. It was a nice way to start. Granted, I practiced with water (and a different syringe) for a good 20 minutes beforehand.

Re: 6/28 PMPS 256 First shot

Congrats on starting the sugar dance!

I'm a big fan of either a +2 or +3 test. Unless you are up until late in the evening, I don't know that I'd get up to get the +9. Even the +6 could be late but it depends on how you deal with lack of sleep. It's going to take several days (5 - 7) for the depot to fill.

While curves are helpful when you're trying to sort out when onset and nadir occur, in general, getting random spot checks can be even more helpful. I'd recommend always getting a before bed test. Beyond that and your pre-shot tests, once you have a feel for how Julia is responding, you can test whenever you think is necessary. We do ask that you do your best to get a pre-shot test (always) and at least one test during each cycle.

Thanks! I think we'll start with a +2 and go from there. I'll give her a snack afterward. Luckily with my schedule I can go to bed at her +6 (or later if I had to) and that would still be fine with me. I can go on 4 hrs sleep if need be as I'm a late night person anyhow. Getting up is a whole different story. Pre-shot tests will ALWAYS be done as will a before bed check. And spot checks are not a problem since both Mom and I can test.

How is the home testing going? Are you and mom getting the hang of it? What low carb treat does Julia get after the pokie pokie?

Home testing is going fine. It came back right away since we tested Margaret 4 years ago. Julia isn't into treats and barely eats at night which we have to work on. Her being a "morning eater" is nothing new for her though. She likes the Fancy Feast appetizers which we give her and I'm going to order her some freeze dried chicken - Pure Bites, this weekend to try. Up until now she has been really easy to test and barely woke up for the +2. I did it right in her spot in the couch where she stays near my Dad. We'll see what the +4 brings shortly and I'll try to get her to snack on something.

Glad to hear those testing skills came right back to you. Guess it's like riding a bicycle. Once you learn, you never really forget.

Her +2 and +4 are exactly the same and are higher than her PMPS. What the heck? I don't believe it was a fur shot - we felt for wetness and didn't feel anything. I'll grab a +6 and see what happens. Since I chose the 0.5U to start (and I know adjustments are made based on nadir after a # of days) should I try the same dose again tomorrow morning and see what happens?

Still can't get her to eat tonight which bugs me since I know it will be helpful if she's willing to eat in the evening.

Those numbers really are pretty much the same. There's a 20% variance in any test number due to meter variance. Julia is having a very flat PM cycle.

Just a note -- You may want to put Julia's name in the subject line. It's her condo, after all!!

Thanks! I'll check again before I go to bed in an hour or two and we'll go again in the morning. Now the cat has her own condo...she owns more property than I do!

Glad to see Julia started getting her juice today. Now it's time to fill the depot and start seeing what she can do?

Come on Julia!

Well..these cats, they pretty much run everything around here
