Good afternoon !!! I haven't posted on the board in quite a while, Sabrina's doing really well........but my dilemma now, she on Lantus 1u 2x's a day & I have apprx 2 days left. I ordered the med from Canadian pharmacy(1st time) & didn't realize it takes so long to get........Is there anyone in northern nj, poconos, pa, or orange co., ny that would be willing to sell me 1 pen....open or otherwise? My family is going on vacation tues july 1st but Sabrina will go to the sitter mon eve june 30. I have 1/3 bottle of Lantus that's been refrigerated for more than 6 months........Possibly is that still good?? No floaters, nice & clear. My local hospital doesn't have an outpatient pharmacy & I put a call into my sitter to see if she has other clients that use lantus nailbite_smile Thanks for any help or suggestions Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Re: 6/27Sabrina...diabetic 1-1/2yrs &.scrambling for meds :(

OMG!!!!! TIME TO RANT.......I CALLED MY VET TO GET A LANTUS SCRIPT & THEY ARE RELUCTANT TO GIVE ME ONE SINCE ITS BEEN 1-1/2 YEARS SINCE THE LAST SCRIPT. :?: WHERE AM I GETTING IT FROM....TOLD THEM CANADIAN PHARMACY WHERE YOU DON'T NEED A SCRIPT. "OH", WELL THE OFFICE SAID THROUGH THE RECEPTIONIST THAT I CAN'T GET A SCRIPT FOR THE SOLOSTAR PEN BECAUSE "IT DOESN'T WORK FOR CATS" ACCORDING TO THE SENIOR PARTNER OF THE PRACTICE. WTF*#$@ :?:  I WASN'T GOING TO ARGUE WITH THE POOR RECEPTIONIST ;-) LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.....................Thanks for listening Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Hi Cindy I don't have any lantus but I just wanted to validate your outrage at the Vet office! I hope you are considering getting a new vet.
How awful for you.

Re: 6/27Sabrina...diabetic 1-1/2yrs &.scrambling for meds :(

They clearly don't understand you aren't injecting the insulin via the pen. Also, if Sabrina's dose in 1.0u or thereabout, you may not go through a box of pens in over a year.

To be honest, the vet is acting appropriately by not prescribing if they having seen Sabrina in over a year. It's really bad practice to write a prescription for a human or an animal without having see the patient. When I called my vet for a prescription, they told me they would write the Rx but I needed to bring Gabby in.

I know that things changed with getting meds through Canada some time ago. They were requiring your vet to send a prescription. Maybe things changed again. You don't need an Rx if you walk into a pharmacy but you may with mail order.

You might change your subject line to indicate you need 1 pen and your in the areas you noted. I'd post on Health, Community, and Supply Closet, as well. Check on Craig's List, too.

Re: 6/27Sabrina...diabetic 1-1/2yrs &.scrambling for meds :(

It is a state law here that whether it's human or animal, they have to be seen once a year to continue prescriptions.....even ones they've had for a long time.

I bet you Sienne is very right.....he thinks you are using the pen needle. I would make an appt for Sabrina ASAP and then take the video Julie made or somehow explain to him how you draw from a pen using a syringe.

Good luck....and Craig's list is also a good place to look. I believe that is where DCIN got most of their pens.

Hello Everyone! My vet office's jr partner was very receptive when I explained to her how we draw from the pen, using our u100 syringes. she wrote me a script & ill bring Sabrina back in for her annual in September........she understood all the money I've laid out for emma these last 2 months(she was dx'd hyperthyroidism....600.00 in labs these past 6 wks) now Im just trying to see who will sell me 1 pen til I get my canadian shipment........I didn't need a script as they consider lantus otc...that's 1 bonus  Thanks all
