I hope everyone has had a great week. We have been.... well, busy again!:joyful::cool: I just can't imagine not being on the go. ;) It keeps us out of trouble, and makes for great times! I often think back on the weeks happenings, and wonder how in the world did we do all that! It was the same this past week. Even with the added care for Elsa, and the addition of a new furkid Vanessa, and the increased intensity of the pool, we have mange to maintain a week of adventure, and fun. Weather was darn cool too: Warm, like 85/90 warm, and sunny! It has been a good week. :):):)

And first up today.... Elsa News. She is doing fairly well. :joyful: We are one fluids every other day, and will continue in that mode unless it appears that she needs them daily. She is also on pepcid, and cerenia to deal with any upset tummy issues. Both seem to be helping her, as we have no indication of nausea, or a gassy stomach. We have not had to give any cerenia in over a week, she seems to be handling meals well. She was also on clavamox to deal with her mouth as she is not a dental candidate. That has been discontinued. The vet(s) and I discussed doing this by flash method, but that too has been dropped, for now, until there is any indication she needs it. BW done a week ago showed no improvement in any values due to the AB's. Renal values were much the same as last labs, with creatnine up a little, BUN was down alot. So... plan continues as is. Her phosphorus values were up significantly enough that we will be adding a phosphorus binder. Thanks you Amy for your recommendation of ConSeal-AIH, which has been reported to be a more palatable form of Aluminum hydroxide. Elsa has been eating so well that I won't want to add anything to her food that is not palatable, and loose that aspect that is now working so well. The binder has been ordered and will be worked into her meds lineup when it is here. We retest BW in a month to see how things are. Elsa is a good at home fluid taker. She sits on my lap, DH will stroke her head and talk to her while I administer her fluids. She is as good as gold. I will have to laugh though, as soon as we are done, and she knows when that is, she sits up, hisses a few comments, and off she goes. She gets handful of kitty treats for being such a good patient. :joyful: She remains active, doing Elsa things. last week she has made sure I get up in the morning. The kitty choir, with Bug and Lola as back up singers, has returned! It is nice to see her just being Elsa.

Elsa, on Father's Day 2015. Looking GOOD!

Vanessa is doing well. She is however still adjusting to being in a new home, but no longer remains under the bed most of the time. She now comes out during the day, spends mostt of her time in various places in the bedrooms there, no longer roaming just when the other cats are quiet. I have to keep reminding myself that she has only been here 2 weeks, and that this adjustment has to be hard for her. She is 14, used to a single at home, where she lived for 14 years. Over the course of 10 days she has lost the only home she ever knew, been in a shelter and two other homes before she found us. We are doing are best to make her comfortable here. I send alot of time with her in the basement, just giving pets cuddles, and reassuring words. She is such an affectionate kitty, that I hope soon she will take on the lay of the land, and explore upstairs, where we spend most of our time. If only Lola, out resident crazy cat, would cut her some slack and stop growling every time she sees her. Soon I hope.... :) well, that has truly improved too. The other nght I brought Vanessa kitty treats. Lola, who cannot resist them, followed, so those two sat nose to nose, two feet apart, and ate their treats together, with one growl from Lola, and two from Vanessa. :joyful: Slowly things are improving. It is great to find Vanessa out most of the time, soon I hope to start to get her to explore upstairs... ;)

Vanessa, the 4th Musketeer!

It has been a week in the pool! It has just become the norm for us, we go each week, and just never tire of it. It proves to be such fun for both boys, and their excitement with it all has not wavered. Nicholas's swim lessons continue, though with the onslaught of summer, things have changed there quite a bit. Summer swim classes are offered on a five days a week basis  o_O and not twice a week as they are during the school year. oh. my. We are in a struggle to make this work for Nicholas. I do not have an issue with it, and have adjusted our activities accordingly, the other DGP's however will not support it, say it all infringes on their personal time (WHAT??), and will no longer be bringing him to swim class on their assigned days. The boys mom and dad are beyond frustration.... anyways... I cannot control what they, the DGP's, do, but will continue to keep up my end of the deal, and get him to swim class. I have to admit that 5 mornings a week is a bit much, but in talking with Nicholas, and watching him in his first week of class each day, he just LOVES being there all that time. He says he is so happy that he can swim as much as he does. I so hope he can convey this passion to the other two, and they will change their minds. All this is, after all, for the benefit of the kids, and fulfilling the desire, likes, and abilities that they have as best we can. Sorry for the rant, but wow on the other two.....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Nicholas continues to do well in class, working on learning side breathing, elementary back float and stroke , and the beginnings of breaststroke. He just loves class, and can't wait for his lessons to begin. He literally runs to class when it is time. :):joyful: They have started to introduce the diving blocks, and beginning dives from the side of the pool. He absolutely loves that. The added benefit to all this pool time, and since summer sessions do not open the big deep water pool, William has been able to swim with his brother. This has been fabulous! William is so happy to be swimming with his brother. :woot::woot::woot: He even had a personal swim lesson one day when one of the senior guards saw him watching Nicholas's class and offered to take him in. That was just so cool. William's First swim lesson! He had a great time. :):):) Class days for Nicholas this week were Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Outside of class he still is our little energizer fishie, loves swimming in the big pool, and will often forgo the beach area play for the 6 and unders. He'd rather be in deep water. William continues to do well, and has gotten very comfortable in the water, on top and down under. He likes to float, and will do so, on his tummy in the shallow beach area. He tells everyone he is swimming! :) He's also started to do some jump ins. Cool! He's learning that jumping in can be fun too. How fun! Lessons ought to go well for him too, when he is eligible. We are grateful for our time in the pool. It has all enabled to boys to explore anther aspect of growing up, one they really enjoy. Our swim days this week were Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and then Friday night. yes. that is indeed ALOT of time in the pool! :woot:
And the Highlight of Friday night? The Burger Feast! Nicholas loves it, and continues to look forward to it each week. We have this running bet on how many extra pickles (I always ask for extra as he LOVES pickles) we will actually get. It varies, anywhere from 2 to 10. This week, tally was 14!! A new record! :)
GO NICHOLAS! GO WILLIAM !!

The week was busy.... three days of adventure after adventure. Weather was great this week, with sunny skies and temps in the 85-90 range o_O . DANG! It has been HOT here!:joyful::smuggrin::cool: we were able to spend alot of time outdoors, from The berry trails of Mesika, the river at Bothell Landing Park, and the awesome river adventure of the Big Eddy, Skykomish River. The extra pool time has been a factor, but I've adjusted how we approach the afternoons, places we visit to that the experience they get remains much as they are used to, and want to do. Success! They have been extremely good days for the boys. Since it temps have been just shy of 90, those river spots have been such a nice time. Boys boys spent alot of it IN the river. William;s comment: "This feels GOOD!" yes, I have to admit, it did! 92 on Friday, and all of us were in that river. What was so fun was that, once again, they were able to see small new fish, maybe an inch long, swimming with them. All in all, that is just so cool! :woot:

Nicholas: Back from a swim in the Skykomish River...

For my own personal time, I continue to hike the local trails here when I can: Meadowdale, Picnic Point, Scriber Lake, Mesika, the neighborhood, and the shoreline at Meadowdale. With Sunday being Father's day, I was unable to hike that day, We did a Father's Day brunch here at home, had a wonderful family time. With the new swim schedule I was unable to devote a full day to hiking, so opted instead to walk a local river trail here in the hopes of finding a new spot(s) for the boys. The Sammamish River Trail, though a nice urban river walk, and biking path, really did not offer up any potential exploration spots for the boys. oh well, we have alot of good ones already! :)

Normalcy in Three MusketeerVille! :cat::cat::cat: Kitties are doing well, and there really isn't much change from last week. Bug is still being cuddly and befriending Vanessa, Elsa is still holding her own even with a few new issues, and Lola is still escaping, and making sure Vanessa knows her place. It is interesting that Bug has no desire to be outdoors, still hasn't tried, even when we left the door open for him. . Lola however.... Elsa seems to be doing OK this morning. She's made two trips outdoors, made three passes at the fuds bowl with a few nibbles, meowed at me a few times, and is now lounging outdoors in the sunshine under her favorite azalea plant in the yard. Lola is currently running from window to window, plotting, I am sure, her next escape route. She was successful once today already.:rolleyes::rolleyes: I can't wait to see how our new addition, Vanessa, will fit into the three ring circus, once she utilizes the whole house. ;) Guess they will have to become the Four Musketeers! :cat::cat::cat::cat:

I hope everyone had a great Caturday. I started out today to post this first thing in the morning....oh sure.... Google Photo links took ALL DAY to update and process. ALL DAY? wow... well in all fairness I guess I do have alot.:smuggrin: it has been a normal Caturday here: shopping and laundry early on, A Meadowdale Hike at 1PM and home for the evening. It is warm here... 89 today. More of the same tomorrow...:eek: I know.... but it is warm for us. Ever so glad we rarely make that 100 temp thing. :)

KITTIES!! Remember: BLUE, think GREEN

It's so beautiful where you are Michelle, you always have such wonderful pictures :) Glad to hear that Elsa's doing well and has adjusted to her new regime so well and awesome that there's been progress on the Vanessa/Lola front :joyful: maybe by winter they'll be snuggle buddies...

Oh lemme at those hot dogs and mocha!!! :joyful::joyful: Super report for Elsa-- eating is the most important aspect of CKD- Hooray! I hope that the phosphorus binder works for her so as not to upset that delicate balance, fingers and paws crossed!!

Lola-- Please show Vanessa some love!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug: That is wonderful that Vanessa feels confident enough to come out from under the bed already!! In case you didn't hear me Lola-- Please show Vanessa some love!!:smuggrin:

I sure hope the other set of DGP's come around- clearly Nicholas is benefiting from these swim lessons, it would be a shame for them to miss the opportunity to see him thrive. Prayers and vines the situation rectifies itself.

Are you ready for some cooler weather and ahem, some rain??? Our water bill says we have used as much water now as we did all summer last year!! :banghead::banghead:

Have a great weekend Michelle, thanks for the support for Tiger too! She's better tonight. :D

Thanks for the update - so much going on! I don't understand why the other DGPs don't want to take Nicholas to swim lessons either. Paws crossed for Vanessa and Lola to work things out. Treats will surely help. :)
Liz

I hadn't caught that Vanessa moved in.... how wonderful for her to have a new home and she'll find her niche.

I did laugh at Elsa giving her two cents as it is all over.....
I cooperated... but I didn't like it.... hiss....

those boys just grow and grow....
don't you have any bricks?

Ah, normalcy in Muskateerville! I always loved to see that in Mannie's daily condos! Love the photos of the girls. So glad to see Elsa is eating well, and being so good for her fluids. We have paws crossed the new meds help her numbers and keep her feeling good. Do you deliver the pizza special to AZ? :bighug:

I hope the binder helps Elsa. I'm glad things are improving between Lola and Vanessa. How great the William and Nicholas got to swim together. That is sad about the other DGP. I hope they wake up and realize what they are doing.

Good Morning LL! :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee: (YUM! I Love coffee!), and Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday L&LL! Wow, a gorgeous day in the making here in Washington. Already it is 75 out, and headed to 88 or so. I can't remember the last day it rained here, and this is the Seattle area after all. We are expected to hit 95 on the 4th of July, which in itself is nothing short of a miracle. It ALWAYS rains on the 4th here, always. How awesome to think we could be sunny and 95. It was been a good weekend so far. I spent yesterday after out on a local hike through Meadowdale, after my morning catch up from the week things were said and one. It was beautiful down here, sunny and nice and toasty. The masses thought so too. Not too surprised on the volume of folks there, it is an easy to access beach area , so in they come....:rolleyes::joyful: When I got up this morning, at O-dark-thirty, it was already 66 with an incredible sunrise, so I thought I'd take a walk up to the local Coffee shop, aka Starbucks, and get a cup of the "good stuff" and walk the neighborhood some. Sure was nice. The clouds were beautiful, and changing all the time I was out. It made for a great start to the day.:cool::cool::cool:

Normalcy in Musketeerville! :cat::cat::cat::cat: It is great to see Vanessa out and about, and interacting with the others. She and Lola seem to have made a truce, minimal growling these days. They have often been nose to nose deciding who is boss of the basement at that particular moment. :D, like this morning when I took the current set of pics. It was heard, at some point during the night, upstairs, a round of growls. Which in itself is AWESOME, as it means that Vanessa did go upstairs. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good news for our basement cat. GO VANESSA! Elsa ate extremely well this morning, a CPC for the first time in a very long time. YaHOO! She didn't take too well to her pepcid. She is an expert cheeker, and will spit anything out minutes after she gets it. so.... I follow for a few to make sure it went down the hatch. Took three attempts today.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Other than that, all four of them are in sleep mode... even Missy Lola, as Nicholas calls her, who escaped once yesterday and has been hard at work trying again this morning. ;)

Elsa

Enjoy your Sunday everyone, My son Anthony will be by for breffis in a few. YAY! a kiddo visit! I may head on out for a shore walk again this afternoon, before it turns into an oven out there. I know... 90 really isn't an oven, compared to those of you that are in the 100's, but.... it is to us, we just don't normally get temps in the 90's. I'm melting.....

@Vyktors Mum Hi Serryn :coffee::coffee::coffee: Many thanks. We have so many great places to visit here, and are very lucky to have water and mountains and "desert; and woods all so close... I too am glad that Elsa is dong as well as she is. I hope she will be with is a bit longer. :) Wouldn't that be awesome to see Lola and Vanessa as snuggle bunnies? We are making progress!

@Tiger and Ruth Morning Ruth :coffee::coffee::coffee: I hope Tiger is feeling better today, Paws crossed! Me too on the Elsa front: we are elated she is eating well again (hooray for fluids!) and hope the binder will prove to be to her liking. Paws crossed n that one! We are making progress on the Lola and Vanessa front - they do greet each other, sometimes now without all the minor drama! In time I am sure all will be one happy family. :cat: THX too on the other set of GP's. it is beyond me why they can't support what he clearly loves to do. I really hope they will chnage their mind.... and YES (!!!) on that rain. what a summer! My water bill is much the same. Can you believe that it will be as hot as they ay on the 4th??? and no rain??? since when have we ever had a dry 4th???? :nailbiting::stop:

@Anne & Zener (GA) Morning Liz, and Anne :coffee::coffee::coffee: I now, me neither on the other GP's seems they feel it is infringing upon their own personal time with him. I don't understand that. so they deny him, and William, pool time? Something they both clearly love to do? and sit at home instead? That is NUTS. If they want interaction, then get in the pool with him. He'd be elated, and so would William. Beyond comprehension to me why they can't see that. well... we shall see how this evolves. Lola and Vanessa had a decent sniff and sniff session this morning. :joyful: followed by Vanessa saying: "I win!" HAHA.
Anne - I can remember thinking back in the days of Mannie that it really felt good to be able to write " Normalcy in MannieLand" He rarely let anything bother him. I miss those days! :) Me too on Elsa, and paws crossed!
Auntie Anne! we delivers ANYWHERE! You want, we bring! One Mannie and Stu special on its way! Watch for us! ~~ Lola and Bug, paw Prints Pizza

@rhiannon and shadow Morning Rhiannon :coffee::coffee::coffee: Yupp, we have anew one! Vanessa has been her about 2-3 weeks now, slowly getting used to us and the others. :cool:I love how Elsa tells us how she feels after her fluids session. It happens each time she gets them, way too funny. Gotta have her two cents worth, she is such a true tortie! I know on those bricks... They both have grown so much.

@carfurby Morning Carla :coffee::coffee::coffee: THX! I hope the binder helps her too, and that she will take well to the meds. It is given with her food, so I really hope that it is a palatable as they say. Me too on Lola and Vanessa. Best buddies soon, I hope. ;) Me too on the other GP's. I do;t get it, wish I could change their attitude. I hope they see what a mistake their decision is. I never could understand folks that can't support what their kids or grandkids want to do. Hope this works out in the boys favor. paws crossed!

Hi Michelle,
That was quite the week for you. We are so glad that our favorite Barista is holding her own and hope that the new binder will work well for her. Thank you, Elsa, for the whole week of Ethiopian!
Good to see that Vanessa is getting adjusted and that she and Lola are tolerating each other. Bravo to Bug for helping Vanessa to feel at home.
The boys look wonderful and it is clear that they are having a fine time in the pool and the river. I hope the other Grandparents will see that they are needed, and even that they might like watching Nicholas learn new things. I'm sorry that you have to do double duty and have to miss your own personal hiking time. But your hot weather doesn't sound too compatible with extended hikes. I hope the PNW gets back to it's normal rain and cool temps. Climate change is so destructive. Here we have had so much rain that the farmers are worried about their crops. We are on a flood watch today.
Have. Great week!

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) Morning Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee: It has been an intense week! all that pool time.. but so worth the effort in my opinion. It is so obvious to me that both boys love being there, so I will take them for sure. It has proven to be another great bonding time for them. I too hope the other GP's will see the light and change their mind, They say they want to do other things, and I guess I just don't see why they can't do both. Well, we shall see what comes to be, Soon Nicholas, and William, will be voicing their opinion as well. Nicholas doesn't understand why he can't swim 5 days a week, He truly wants to be there. and yes on the double duty and the missed hikes, but I have found a few that I can do, and still get out there. all i all, it is OK. Agreed on Elsa, we are SO GLAD she is holding her own, hasn't taken a turn for the worse. Paws crossed on the binder. :) so agreed on he HOT weather, well HOT for us. ;) I know for sure an extended hike in that weather is hard... I am looking for shorter ones and shaded ones while this heat ave of ours continues. I have heard about all the rains back east... that is so crazy. I hope the flood situation doesn't happen. Paw crossed on that too!
and just for fun: My fave photo from the week in the pool. Nicholas clearly LOVES being there!

That is the greatest shot of Nicholas!!

What a week! Too bad on the other GPs, I hope they will DO something w/ the boys that they will enjoy. Don't they see it isn't about them. I agree on that pic, awsone! Maybe you should frame it and give it to them as a present. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, "Doesn't he look happy!"

Good to hear Elsa is holding her own and is so good w/ the fluids. Tess is pretty good, if just a little squirmy. Interesting on that binder, we haven't had to go there yet, but i'll keep the info on file. I know when we were dealing w/ Cleo's (GA) CKD getting her to eat was the hardest. I know why you don't want to jeopardize that!

Great news on the Vanessa/Lola front too. I feel like a failure w/ Izzy. I thought it was starting out pretty well, but after being ambushed a few times, Emma is just too afraid of her now.

Hey Michelle,
What a great week you and the boys had, and I love this last photo of Nicholas enjoying his swim. I'm so glad to hear how well Elsa is doing, amazing for her age. She's so pretty and love her markings. I'm glad Vanessa is slowly adapting and taking her time. She seems so docile and sweet. It's nice to catch up here with your week, as I sometimes miss the daily ones on FB. I had some troubles with my Laptop, but thanks to Tena, it is up and running very well. I'm still on Windows Vista, lol! Have a great week with the boys and all else that you have planned.

Awesome photo of Nicholas. That boy LOVES the water! He looks so comfortable there. Speaking of water, those river and beach shots look so inviting right about now. And it's not quite peak heat of the day. I've had my first of the low blackberries of the season. In June!!!

Good news on the kitty front. Love that Vanessa is venturing forth and getting some meet and greets. Scritches to Elsa, she is such a good girl on the fluids. Paws crossed on the binder.

As always, thanks for sharing. I have been working so much lately that reading your updates has felt like a vacation. I am glad Elsa seems to be doing well, and it appears Vanessa is starting to feel at home. It's nice when things come together!

@Ann & Tess Hi Ann :):coffee: well.... on the GP's. Today at the pool I had a complete 180 on their attitude on Nicholas and the pool. Bob committed to at least Monday's, and most Tuesdays, no explanation on the issues from last week. GO FIGURE! I have a feeling Nicholas has been giving them h*** about it, as he just will not drop the issue. He knew he was being denied, very intuitive. Wow, a 4 yr old! anywyas... we are sort of back on track. I agree, maybe someone told them it isn't about them and their time, it's about a boy, well two, that LOVE to swim. I sent that photo to everyone I could think of (YES!! and take that!) I wonder if they got feedback. :woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot: We are surviving the fluids, she complains alot, but holds still. a relief! I have yet to secure the binder, a hard one to find, as I guess it is fairly new. but, I hope it helps her one I find it. Interestingly enough my vet cannot order it as it is outside their chain network. Seriously????:rolleyes: Right now that seems to be the one issue we need to address. Eating is on target, so yes, just can't jeopardize that with a food additive that doesn't taste good.... I can understand how Emma feels... it is tough to introduce new ones, especially with a dominate female around like Lola is. We have made progress. I had just let Vanessa deal with Lola on her own terms. Tonight was the first night she ventured upstairs on her own. Lola seems to have accepted the fact that she is not leaving. I wish you luck.

@Ann & Maggie11 (GA) Hi Ann :):coffee:It has indeed been a week! Isn't that photo the best?? It sent it to everyone! :)Me too on Elsa, she is such a fighter. soon to be 19! GO ELSA! THX too on Vanessa. Slowly we are getting there. She is as you say: very sweet, loving, and what a purr! I am so glad your lap top is running better, I know what problems you have had with it, and still with Vista! KUDOS!

@Wendy&Neko Hi Wendy :):coffee:THX, I love that photo! I got lucky with that one, it just says so much about how much he loves being in the pool. I KNOW on those river and beach shots - it was perfect there on TH, so cool on what was a hot summer's day. The boys loved it, as did I. refreshing!! THX on Elsa and Vanessa, things are going well on both fronts. I am so pleased that Elsa is responding, and things seem to be stabilizing. paws crossed. We love having Vanessa, such a sweetie and a great addition here. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Blackberries - they aren't nearly ready here yet, we are currently working on huckleberries, thimbleberries are starting to ripen. ;):):):)

@Marshmellow & Steve Hi Steve :):coffee: ah thanks,,,, reading that has made my day. I can remember the days of working as hard and as much as you do, now it is my turn to play. We have such fun, love the time with the boys, one feels like a kid again. SO AGREED! It is nice when things start to come together!! GO Vanessa, and Elsa!
