Yesterday's blue streak

I suspected that the bounce was about to happen, but it's still disappointing to see this morning's number. :arghh: But, other than the number, Walt seems to be feeling just fine. He slept on the bed with me and while I can't say that he wanted to cuddle with the kittens, he is no longer upset about their presence. Let's hope that he decides to come back down again soon.

Unfortunately, Flora didn't have a good night. Her diarrhea is once again getting worse and it seems like the food is just running though her. I will pick up some better probiotics for her today and I am waiting for a call back from the vet. She will definitely need sub-q fluids again, the poor little nugget.

Luckily, her big sister Fern is taking great care of her:

Poor little Flora! Hope she gets over this! Love the picture.

It's hard to see, but Fern actually brought her the little yellow fuzz ball to make her feel better and see if she wanted to play. Iris and Fern play really rough with each other, but I think they know that Flora isn't feeling well and are very gentle with her.

Hopefully the bounce doesn't last long and Walter will come down into good numbers again!
Cute picture of the kittens! But poor Flora! Hope her tummy gets better soon!

When I first got Max he had diarrhea for a very long time, months. He had a parasite and I wondered if it would ever go away. I'd ask if another stool sample is a good idea to check.

Back from the vet with Flora. They still don't really know what's going on. Thankfully, she is not running a fever and the mini chem looked good. However, she was once again dehydrated and it appears that her lymph nodes are swollen or that her kidneys are enlarged. Basically, there's something in her little belly that is bigger and harder than it should be. They tried doing an ultrasound of her belly, but they couldn't see anything other than a lot of gas. The fecal was still negative.

The vet gave her a tiny dose of Drontal (since she might have tapeworms that they didn't see in her fecal). I will continue with the probiotic (I am giving her Renew Life Ultimate Flora Adult 15b CFU - that is what @Marje and Gracie recommended for Mandarin a while back). @Bobbie And Bubba - I didn't even think to ask about SEB, but that's a good idea. I wonder if that's safe in tiny kittens.

If she continues to lose weight and doesn't get better, the vet wants to see her again at the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Walter pulled off a nice surprise and ended the AM cycle in blue. No clue how he managed to do that since there was very little movement up until +8, but I will take it.

Dosing of this for kittens is 1/4 cap twice a day for maintenance and 1/2 cap twice a day for therapeutic. You might wan too discuss this with the vet since you are using it in a kitten with other stuff going on and not just Mandarin. It shouldn’t hurt her but I’d just be sure the vet knows it is in the mix. Same thing if you switch to Florastor where the dosing is different for kittens than adult cats. The vet needs to be aware of these because of whatever else is going on. Florastor dosing for kittens is 1/8 cap twice daily for maintenance and 1/4 cap daily for therapeutic. It contains lactose which could be an issue for kittens.

I really hope that sweet baby gets better. Sending many prayers for her. That photo is too sweet.

The vet knows that I put her on the Renew Life and she was fine with that. They always recommend Forti Flora as their preferred option (since that what they sell, of course), but are okay with other probiotics. Other than the Drontal that she got today and the fluids, Flora isn't on any meds at the moment. ...I have only done 1/4 cap twice a day since she is so tiny, but I will check with the vet tomorrow to see if I could increase that to 1/2 a cap.

...and as disgusting as it sounds, I am almost hoping to find some giant tapeworms in the litter box. That would certainly be the easiest fix if that's what's been bugging her.

@Marje and Gracie should know if it's safe for kitties to use the SEB.
I’ve never used it in a kitten but it is non toxic. Still, I’d probably check with the vet. The dosing, if you are just mixing the powder with water, is 1/4 tsp of powder per 10 lbs of body weight so it would be such a tiny bit of SEB. So if she weighs 2.5 lbs, it would be 1/16 of a tsp.

Ever so many prayers for little Flora. And that picture is absolutely precious. Such understanding and tenderness. Please, little girl, feel better.

Well, looks the bounce is breaking. What do you think Walter?

Almost green!!! :D Super excited to be setting an alarm for +5 - I don't want to miss any low numbers, especially not the first green in a month. Now let's hope that the kits will let me sleep until then.
