So, should I let that ride, or give her a tiny bit of insulin? I'm personally voting for waiting and seeing what it does for a few days since I can do full curves all weekend. She was 146 at +2 last night after her meal, too.

That's a lot lower than I was shooting last week!

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

Lets give her a couple days to see where she goes. Since Lantus builds up in the body, if she's trying for remission that leftover shed might be still in play and too much insulin can cause high numbers as well.

Especially with the diet change. As long as you're testing so you'll catch her if she's zooming up I'm good with letting it ride. If you can also snag a ketone test that would be awesome but if not in these numbers I wouldnt sweat it much.

Oh, right! I forgot about getting ketone strips. I should definitely do that for attempting being OTJ, eh?

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

Really as borderline as she is right now I won't worry about it. Highly doubt she's throwing them. But yeah handy to have on hand. As long as she's eating well you should be good without them right now but just thought since you're around might be an opportunity to grab a test.

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

Great, I'll try to get some of those, even if it's for later use.

I got new, super-cheap lancets along with the Arkray and tested myself with the same method I use for Mona. I honestly didn't even feel the lancet after the tiniest twinge when I first went through the outside layer of skin, which is much better than the crazy-expensive Alphatrak ones I'd been using. Those really stung! My BG is 86 this morning. Phew! :)

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

Katie, that was a great idea on your part to try the lancet on yourself. It really helps us remind ourselves what the cat feels. I found that if I started getting Cattitude from Miss Sammy it was because my technique had gotten poor. The reminder I needed to give myself occasionally that worked for me and Sammy was "Gently insert the lancet, rather than poke". I needed to SLOW DOWN my hand.

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

And Linda just reminded me.

Katie are you using the lancing device or free-handing it. Most of us find free-handing is easier. To free hand just pretend you're removing a splinter from your toddler. Go in at about a 45 degree angle and gently insert the lancet.

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

I'm free handing the lancets. The device seemed slow and loud, and the techs all did it freehand when I saw them do it and she didn't seem to mind it, so I've never even tried the device.

Re: 6/27 Mona AMPS-152

Awesome! I started with the device since my mom was a human diabetic. But with testing two cats its much quicker to free hand and just toss one lancet and grab a fresh one for the next cat. I have it down to an art form now. Lol.

I can now test, feed 16 & shoot 2 in 15 minutes.

She had a decent rise for a couple hours after eating, but she's dropped back down quite a bit.

Look at Mona go!!! I can't wait to see her pmbg. :-D

When exactly did she convert over to her current diet??

She hasn't been over 120 since this morning. I honestly can't quite believe this. It's was a week ago yesterday that I started shifting her to some wet food and tomorrow it'll be one week on entirely wet food (she seemed okay on it, so I switched fast).

She's also acting much livelier. I hadn't realized how much she'd been sleeping or just being slower. The last few days she's been waking us up and hanging out with us much more during the day, so it's clear she's feeling significant better, too.

She's looking awesome!!! She's doing exactly what she should be with those would be preshots coming down as well. And bringing herself down after eating. :RAHCAT
