I haven't posted updates on Jose in a while. He has been doing great. The last few days, however have been different. I first noticed that he started eating less than he usually does at each meal time. He's fed 4 times a day every 6 hours using an auto feeder getting a total of 3 3oz cans of PurinaOne One classic chicken pate. For the last three or four days he's eaten roughly 2 cans a day. For the last two days I've seen unusual stool in his box that is much softer and smellier than usual. And then yesterday and today he has had pre shot numbers lower than 100. I'm so excited that I haven't needed to give him insulin but I'm worried that something else is up. Any ideas or advice? I also posted on the health page.

I don't know, Rebecca. Sounds like a vet visit is a good idea, maybe taking in a fecal sample? I hope it's just a tummy upset and that he feels better soon.

I took Jose to the vet today. Everything seems normal. I brought in a fecal sample and it was free of parasites. Yesterday's BM wasn't diarrea it was softer but not like it had been. The vet gave him a prescription for Albon and fortiflora. I'm so nervous about giving him the antibiotic though, since the last time he was on one his BG skyrocketed.

Many antibiotics for cats are actually child versions for humans ... in a base with a sweetener. Always remind the vet you want the Abx straight, unless they have a pet flavoring system.

I will use Pill Pockets or a piece of processed cheese to hide tablets or cut up pieces of meds.

Another trick is to put the med in an oral syringe, such up some water, maybe such up some mushy canned food, add a smidge of air, put finger over end and shake well. Once dissolved, point it tip up and expell the air, then dose.
