Hello, Lantus Kitties!

If your beans are nearby, ask them to exit the room while you read this.

I've had my 12 mg of Tramadol, so am ready to share some info with you.
At some point in time, you may have the bad luck to be forced to endure an Elizabethan Collar.
Some call it "The Cone of Shame", but i have chosen to take a more positive view.
MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU!!

While not the most attractive or comfortable summerwear, there are some benefits to this device that may not be readily apparent to all.

Once you realize that the floor and all other areas outside your 12 inch visual radius HAVE NOT disappeared...you are ready to venture on.
First and foremost...piteous meowing is an absolute must. No need for your human to think that you are acclimating.

Second: the vet's instructions will say "move food and water dishes away from the wall so pet can access them easily"
BULL!! make 'em hand feed you! It's the least they can do.

Third: Are the humans wearing shorts? Yes? well...there you go...the human calf, thigh, or ankle is a perfect target for the collar's edge...trust me!
It'll get their attention back on you where it belongs.

Fourth: any time you bump something audibly with the collar (and you will)...either moan or sigh loudly and fall over on your side...
they'll come a'runnin'!

Fifth, but possibly most importantly: at some point after you don the collar, your beans will stop staring guiltily at you. They may sense that you
are going to survive the experience, or just let their attention wander (they have short attention spans).
This is your moment. Find the piece of furniture most crowded with glassware, knick knacks, or other belongings...hop up there and
SWEEP IT CLEAN!! Swing that collar up, down, and all around and declare your dissatisfaction through BREAKAGE!

It's your duty...They need to think about what they have done!

Last but certainly not least...Mardi Gras Beads or Dreadlock Wigs...YES!
Blonde wig...not so much...

:-D :-D :-D

Binks
(who had his claw excised today and is on
12mg tramadol/50 mg amoxicillin BID and in a collar for 7 days to stop toe infection from worsening)

Yo Binksy, Thanks for the great tips, man. I hope I never have to use them! How do you sleep in that contraption? How's your paw? Man, you did it this time alright! I'm heading over to your place with some chicken soup and a long straw.

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

Hey Binks, I bet you wish you had thumbs so you could just take the dang thing off, huh? Well I DO HAVE THUMBS. Hahahaha, I did everything you said and it didn't work so I waited until the bean went to work and just pried it off. You shoulda seen her trying to figure out how I did it

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

But you forgot one rule: MAKE SURE THE CAMERA AND CELL PHONES ARE ITEMS YOU DESTROY WHILE SWEEPING THE TABLE. Accessorizing is one thing. Allowing yourself to be photographed is another.

Feel better, Binks!

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

Oh Binkster, you're miserable, and your mean bean has got her friends laughing at you, once again. Poor Baby.(teehee)

Aunty Barb

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

the truth is...he is miserable, poor lil poop.

but, he continues to be the sweetest tempered lil guy I know...and there are two things helping him through:

he was 1/2 pound under ideal weight, and his bean feels so bad for him that he's being handfed great foods right now...

and the Tortie girls are completely flabbergasted by the collar...
all he has to do is swivel it in their direction and they run screaming and hissing from the room!
Score One for the Binksman!

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

   Oh, it does feel good to laugh. But I'll be glad when Binks gets the darned thing off, too. Only 6 more days, Binksy. Hang in there!

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

HILARIOUS!

One last rule. When you're about to slip it off your head, remember to yowl loudly when your bean forgets to pull the string to loosen the collar. That'll earn 3 more days of guilt-ridden looks from your bean!

I have a headache and you made me laugh out loud again *slap*

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

This was hilarious, oh how I admire your sense of humour and outlook on life.

Poor Binks, hope you don't have to don this outdated fashion for much longer

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

Awww - aren't they the saddest things with the collar? Fax had to wear one for a week after an abscess surgery. He must have already read the instructions from Binks because he followed them to a T!

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla

I used our dog's old E collar as a "tree skirt" to try to cover the Christmas tree water reservoir. The newer ones are so much more humane, though I can't imagine trying to get one of my cats in one. Cats can become eels in the blink of an eye.

Binks, you are truly a special kitty and a good sport. Get well soon.

Re: 6/27 Binks- Tips on accessorizing your elizabethan colla
