Today is Putty's 8th birthday. What a good day he chose to wake up with green AMPS.
We adopted Putty from the MSPCA when he was 8 weeks old. My daughter (who was 8 at the time) and I would go every week to look at the kittens. She would hold different ones but kept saying it was not the right one which was fine with me. I am allergic so I kept trying to discourage her from getting one. One Saturday my DH took her and they called me to say that she found the one. He had just come out of foster care. My DD picked him up, he curled up on her lap and fell asleep and she fell in love with this little gray furry ball.
They went out to buy all the supplies and carrier and went back to get him. I was not very happy. Anyway, when I came home I saw this very cute little guy that my daughter had already named Silly Putty sitting in my family room. He came right over to me and I was adamant that I would not fall in love with him. I had never had any pets growing up so I did not really want the responsibility and cats were just not my thing. Each day when those big green eyes would look at me I melted a little more. One day I was laying down and my daughter put him on the couch with me. He walked onto my chest gave me the sweetest little look, curled up in a ball and fell asleep on me......I was in love.
He stole my heart very quickly. He lived up to his name. He was one silly little kitty. When he was just 3 months old we had all gone out for a couple of hours. When we came home he had somehow dragged the roll of toilet paper from the bathroom all the way to the family room. He continued to do very silly things as he still does today.
When he was 5 years old he was dx with diabetes. He was only on insulin for 24 days before he went OTJ for 4 months. He has been back on insulin ever since. The bond we share is amazing. I was so determined not to like him never mind the enormous love I feel for him. He has become a very important part of our family. He has taught us so many things, I think we will keep him.
