So, we started the boys on wet food only last night at 8pm. They had been on a kibble free feeder until then, but they've always LOVED wet food, so we didn't anticipate any trouble with the switch.

We gave them each half a 6.5 oz can of by Nature wet food, with a little extra from an open tin. Is this enough food? I've heard from several sources that it is, but it just doesn't seem like enough. Max weighs about 11lbs, and could stand to gain a pound, and Leo weighs about 14lbs, and could stand to lose a pound.

This morning Max woke us at 7am wanting food. Leo was unconcerned. We fed them both again at 8am whereupon Max chowed like it was going out of style, and Leo ate a little, then went to make sure Max wasn't getting something better. He still hasn't come back to his dish.

Max's BG was the lowest we've seen it in almost a month this morning. We wavered on whether to shoot the usual 1.5, but thought we'd better since he'd be scarfing down a bunch of food right away anyway. I hope we did the right thing.

Sounds good, post your updates along the way, there's always someone here to guide you along if you see lower numbers.

Re: 6/26 Max on wet food, AMPS 200

It looks like Max probably stayed in the yellows all night -- very nice surfing! You may already be seeing what the elimination of dry food can do.

You did great with the shot this morning. Getting a curve today is a good plan. You'll need to test every 2 hours.

Since this is your lowest pre-shot number yet, you might want to get a +1 so you know if numbers are going up (due to a food spike) or not. Since we don't know yet how Max's numbers will look without any dry food on board and this is his lowest pre-shot, you'll want to pay close attention to his numbers today. Numbers can start to improve dramatically once the dry stuff is gone.

Max has gone UP steadily since his shot and feeding. I'm so confused- is this normal? Should we worry? The food we're using is grain-free & considered low in carbs. See the thread about by Nature here.

Are we still looking at the feeding spike? Should we be worried?

no worries, Max is basically flat today, which is something that Lantus does really well. There are lots of reasons that could happen so we'll just keep watching. Nice job with testing today.

Re: 6/26 Max on WF, AMPS 200 +8 313 DOSE Q??

Dosage Question:

We've been 9 cycles on 1.5 units- is it time to increase? By how much?
Tomorrow we'll be out for most of the AM, but should be back in time to do a +6.

Thanks
Holly

Hi there

good job getting those numbers in!

Let's see what your PMPS number looks like.

Are you up for a +11 and a post?

Just wanted to add, keep in mind you just did a food switch last nite, let's see what others can add.

Re: 6/26 Max on WF, AMPS 200 +8 313 DOSE Q??

no, if you just took away dry food last night, I would give this dose a few cycles to see if it will be enough now that he is eating lower carb food.

Re: 6/26 Max on WF, AMPS 200 +8 313 DOSE Q??

Wonderful that you could make the wet food transition smoothly. Some kitties here have had a hard time giving up their dry.

I wouldn't make a dose increase during the same time as the food transition. I'd give it a couple of days to see if numbers improve from the food switch.

Two recent examples of BG numbers during the food transition are Tugger and Do Lou.

Note the BGs and the dose.

Re: 6/26 Max on WF, AMPS 200 +8 313 +10 292 +11 299 DOSE Q??

Max ping-ponged between 200 & the low 300s today on his 1st day (2nd cycle) off the kibble & on a twice daily wet food feeding schedule. They both got ridiculously hungry at +10 and (not kidding) were getting right up in our faces & yelling at us. I caved & gave them each a tsp of wet food to shut them up. I think I might try the frozen wet food trick tomorrow, so they can nosh a little during the day. Is this ok?

It looks like the consensus is to stay @ 1.5 units for the time being. Anyone else want to weigh in? We are around most of tomorrow, but on the average day, we're both out of the house from 8:30 am to 7pm.

I have noticed that it tends to take Max about 6 cycles before leveling to consistent test results. I just don't want to have him with high BG any longer than necessary.

BTW- he's drooling alot today... I'm assuming its just a hunger thing? Everything else seems to be normal.

Thanks!! You guys are wonderful!
Holly

Max tested at 234 at +2.5 after PM shot, lower than any test during the day. JIK, gave him an extra ounce of wet food before bed, and we may get up and check on him at +6 or 7.
