Hi all - I'm new to this board and just wanted to introduce myself. I did post yesterday and chatted with a couple of very helpful people. My name is Dara and Bob is my diabetic kitty. I've been very stressed because I'm not seeing a whole lot of progress, but since starting the insulin he has felt a little better, his numbers just haven't moved a whole lot in the right direction. Deb (& Wink) in the Health group suggested I come over here now and start working really hard to get Bob's numbers down. The last few days, he has been a little more energetic, sitting in the window, chasing Hector, playing with toys, etc. his appetite is good, his poop is normal, but his coat still could use some more grooming and his pee is still large (not as big as in the begining) in the litter box so he's still drinking alot.

If anybody has any good advice about being on this board, I would certainly appreciate it. I would also love to pointed in the direction of step by step instructions on determining his Lantus units based on his numbers. I've read so much, it's all kind of flying around in my brain and I can't remember where I saw what. I was instructed yesterday since Bob was over 300 to increase him by .5 unit ever 3 days. I only increased him by .25 unit today because I'm a little nervous and I can't check on him at home today.

Thanks so much! I look forward to getting to know more about you all.

Morning Dara
Welcome aboard! There's so much to try and cram in our new to FD brains... don't feel like the Lone Ranger because everything is flying around and your not sure of what you saw where. Ollie and I have been here almost a year and i'm still using training wheels. :-D
to answer your question about Ollie and no meatloafing. Meatloafing is something kitties do when they aren't feeling well. Since Ollie wasn't meatlofing, i think that means he feels ok. I included it because we try and give a WCR (whole cat report). It helps everyone see what's going on with your kitty. As much information as you can add is a good thing.

There is a formula for increasing insulin. It's in this link under "increasing the dose" BUT.. while i'd read it and get familiar with it.. i would ask for advice before changing Bob's dose. I don't mean to imply that you can't handle it by yourself, but there are so many really knowledgeable people here with years of experience and they are so very gracious with their time and expertise. It's so very easy to get advice. Type something like "dose advice?" in your subject line and click on the little circle next to the question mark. It lets everyone know you'd like some guidance.

It's nice to meet you and Bob! There's getting to be quite a contingent of us from FL!! I love your Lakeland scenery. Vast, beautiful Florida with those gorgeous sabal palms.
have a good day.. talk to you soon.

I definitely would like as much advice as possible, since my vet and the specialist I take Bob too haven't been too much help!

Yes, Lakeland is very pretty, but right about now I feel like I'm going to pass out every time I walk outside! I can't believe we have at least 4 more months of this. Crazy! I'm not really familiar with Stuart - I'll have to look it up! Thanks so much for the info.

I saw your question about meatloafing.

There's a difference between a cat sittling like a big lunk on the floor (table, dresser, etc.) and meatloafing. Usually, it's an indication that the kitty doesn't feel well. Some cats, however, will sit that way and they're fine. Most caregivers know the difference between normal behavior and "I don't feel good." meatloafing.

You definitely want to feel comfortable w/ dose adjustments. Do post here before changing doses for a while, we have some folks who are great at tweaking adjustments. I'd say if you go w/.25u adjustments be sure to stick to the 6 cycle schedule. You don't want to lose momentum.

You are getting the hang of our formats, on thing we do in the condo every day is put a link to the previous day's condo so others can go back and see what was going on. Here is your link to yesterday 6/25 Bob.
just copy the URL address for the previous condo. When you are composing you first condo for the day click the URL button above the text box and paste the address between the two sets of brackets. OR to give it a shorter name like I did, after clicking the URL button go just inside the first set of brackets, type an = sign and paste the URL, then go back between the two sets of bracket and name your link. Like this:
 • type name here

ECID, but for Tess I know she is "meatloafing" if her head is down and she is hiding her face. Head up or laid on it's side or chin on her paws, she is fine.

Welcome Dara and Bob, Your in the right place. I was very stressed before coming here, I get great advise from the gals here " No question is stupid just ask" If you have lab reports they can read those to. Lucky was very high before coming here we have made a few dose adjustments but he is doing great now. Take full advantage to the boards great info.
So again welcome to our family I have been here since February so still learning this takes time.
Linda =^:^= and Lucky

Thanks everyone! If I have a question regarding something other than Lantus and dosing, should I post here or on the health board? If I can post here, could someone explain how I would do that?
