I hope the board is up to stay today! Even though I was at work yesterday, I was really bummed I couldn't sneak in visits and check on how everyone is doing. I feel cut off from the world when I don't know how my LL family is doing!

Trix is doing well here. Her appy is steadily improving for the most part, although I still have to hold the plate. I'm working towards/hoping to wean her off assist feeding, but I will do this as slowly as necessary. Instead of "scheduled assist feeding", I'm now trying to play it by ear; if she doesn't eat as much as I would like, I will work an assist feeding in to the rotation. So far, I have not been able to eliminate assist feedings, but I'm more consistently down from 3-4 per day, to 1-2 per day. Progress!

With that, she's not eating quite as much as I like this morning, so I will be doing one very shortly. She has eaten OK, just not enough for this fussy helicopter Italian MamaBean...I just want to see more calories go into her while she is still recovering from the pancreatitis. Mangia, Trix!

I did weigh her today. I was hoping to see a little weight gain, but it looks more like she's stable. Stable is good, but the me, she actually looks as if she's filled back out a bit so I was surprised to not see an increase. She's actually ate a healthy weight for her, as she was a little "fluffy" before, but after this p-titis episode, I would really prefer that she have a little bit of a cushion - both literally and figuratively - "just in case."

Here's a little Trixie mystery: last evening, I found a piece of her Pepcid on the floor in the living room. Since I put all of her pills into a gelcap, and they all go down at once, I have no real idea how or when this happened - especially since I rarely pill her in that room, and I always "pat her down" after pilling, just to be sure the gelcap didn't pop out and get stuck to her fur. I can't imagine she could cheek an entire gelcap without me knowing. I spent about 45 minutes searching for other stray pills pretty much all over the house and found nothing - no other pills, no pieces of gelcap, nothing. I still look everytime I see a little white speck on the floor :roll: :lol: ! The only thing I can think of is that the other day, when I was having so much trouble, the caps were disintegrating. Maybe one of those capsules actually opened a bit, the piece of pill ended up in her mouth and she spit it out later on. Or, with the same disintegrating gelcap theory, the piece of pill got stuck to me and fell of later. I don't know...it was weird and had me a bit paranoid last night :lol: !!

Petey seems to be doing better. He has eaten fairly normally since the cerenia injection the other night. so fingers crossed this sticks. I hold my breath every time I put a bowl down in front of him.

I'm off today...all the usual errands, chores, and hanging with kitties!

I'm not laughing, but smiled at the remembrance of how Checks managed to spit out pill, that I was positive went down. And one so tiny too. :-D
I'm glad Petey is doing better in the eats dept.. :smile:

It is one of those "in hindsight it's kinda funny" things...where on earth did that piece of pill come from? I swear, they get their kicks out of making us beans scratch our heads :lol: !!

Sometimes I will find a gel cap under the bed. I think Max gets it out but it sticks to his fur. I'm glad Petey is eating. He may have just not felt so good for a bit and now he's fine. I hope so anyway. Trixie just likes having room service breakfast in bed.

Thanks for stopping by my condo this morning, Amy. It's crazy that after 6 months I can still find new things to freak out about. Enjoy your day off.

EVen after years, we sometimes hit crazy moments when we don't know what to do!

No sign of any other parts of the gelcap or pills...just that one little piece of Pepcid that was part of the whole collection that goes down in one shot. So weird. I need hidden cameras all over my house!

Hopefully Petey is over the hurdle. With his sensitive tummy, these bouts of inappetence aren't terribly unusual, but I always get stressed when they happen. And now I'm just more hypersensitive from all that we've been through with Trix's p-titis.

OOOOOhhhhhh....I forgot this bit of news: I got Trix's pill down in ONE shot this morning! We also had good runs yesterday, with 2 tries in the morning and 3 tries in the evening. That really is more the norm - I don't know why I've had a couple extremely bad rounds with her pilling, but hopefully those moments will be few and far between!

I have found pills here and there as well. I think they get caught in T's fur when he spits them out. Nice green start for Trixie again. Woohoo! When is the oTJ party? Great news on Petey. Good eating vines coming his way. Keep it up Petey! Have a great day Amy!

I sent the OTJ pics off to Carolyn last weekend. I know she is very busy right now, so I told her - at the rate I've been moving - it's not rush, so I don't know when the date is as of yet!

ah - i was wondering what the status of that was too. we're anxious to celebrate Trixie's success!

are you using pill pockets around the gelcaps? i found that doing that keeps the pills from sticking to your fingers and helps to make them slide down a little better. I just used a thin layer of the pill pockets.

nothing like mystery pills resurfacing sometime later! :roll:

I haven't tried pill pockets because Trix developed a huge aversion to them while she was sick. I'm afraid that might set off an ugly chain reaction.

I do use (vegan) butter, though, and it does seem to help keep them from sticking to my fingers. I think sometimes I'm just bad at getting the pills in the right spot of her mouth. I'm afraid to try a popper...I'm very tactile and I feel like I need to FEEL with my finger what I'm doing.

I admit, I'm slowly getting used to the idea of OTJ, but I'm still nervous and superstitious about it!
 
I'm glad Petey is doing better today. That's good news you aren't having to do as much assisted feeding. It is frustrating to find a pill somewhere later. I had a cat that could hide the pill in her mouth and hold it there for quite a while before she spit it out. I would find them in different places around the house after I was sure she had swallowed them. ohmygod_smile
 
I don't blame you for being nervous but look at those pretty numbers!! Who would have thought that Trixie would go OTJ, especially because of ptitis. Of course she always does things at her own pace. :lol:
 
Trix, like her MamaBean, has never been one to follow a "normal" path! I never in a million years thought she would go OTJ, especially not after all this time, and especially not because of p-titis!

Nothing like practice makes perfect for pilling. But at the same time kitty is getting good at hiding and spitting. :lol:
 
Finally someone can say something good about pancreatitis. In Max's case, I think it caused diabetes!! ECID, another example.
 
Honestly, it's nice - weird, but nice- that Trix is OTJ because of the pancreatitis, but I think I would rather deal with FD and insulin than with all the havoc that the p-titis has cause with her. I guess the OTJ thing is a little gift to compensate for all the suffering....
