WCR: All Ps in place, but some of them are "weak"...in particular, preening and purring. This morning, she was very quiet and not very animated, but her appy was ok. I went back to bed at 6:30am and she woke me up at 7:30 by trying to open my sliding closet door. I convinced her to join me in bed for another hour. She curled up in the crook of my arm and rested her chin on my shoulder. My arm was freezing, but I love having her snuggle with me. I fixed her a snack after her +2.75 and she ate a good portion of it and now she's napping.

So, over the past few days/weeks/months, I've noticed a few changes about my little, sassy girl. Now, is this me watching her too closely? or is something else really going on?!
1. She is very "weak" when she uses her scratching post. I equate this to handshakes. She used to have a very firm handshake; now, it's like a limp paw handshake. :?
2. I have not heard her burp in several months. However, she has replaced the burping with farting.
3. She has "involuntary muscle spasms", mostly in her front legs but sometimes her back legs. She randomly kicks out with either left or right leg. I feel like it's becoming more frequent. This morning, it hit both of her front legs and she looked like she was tap dancing. I tried not to laugh.
4. I'm pretty sure she missed the footstool the other night. I have a little footstool next to my bed to give her a stepping stool up and I'm pretty sure she missed it or didn't make it all the way up. Don't know if this plays along with her wobbliness from yesterday.
5. She used to sit in the bathroom while I showered. Hadn't done that in months and months and months. Just recently, she came in twice!!!
6. She slobbers. a lot. and she's become an extremely messy eater. Food usually on her nose and hanging out of her mouth and then she shakes her head and flings it everywhere.

I have a feeling that there is something neurological going on, but I don't know what and I don't know if there's anything I can do to help/fix her. I see a decline with her every time we get back from the vet...not that they do something, but I feel like she just feels beaten down afterwards. :YMSIGH: I'm just worried about my girl. Thanks for listening to me ramble. I'm going to go obsess about her for a few more minutes before I head off to my classroom for some work.

Have a terrific Tuesday. Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

Hi guys .. I'm sorry that you're seeing some not so good changes in shasta .. I don't really know what could attribute to all of that stuff .. mocha is a messy eater as well, but she's missing nearly half her teeth .. I hope others might be able to help figure out what's going on with your girl ..

Thank you, Devon. I'm hoping that I'm just being overly aware because it's summer and I'm home a lot. :YMSIGH: I want to stick her in my purse and take her everywhere with me. :-D Hope you guys have a wonderful day!

Re: 6/25 Shasta AMPS=311 +2.75=164 +4=106

I'm so sorry to hear about those changes in Shasta. You may want to take her to the vet to have her checked out with regards to the neurological side of things in case. One of my civvies has an issue with kicking out his front legs, too, and I attribute that to being old (he's 14, and will be 15 next April). If Shasta looks a bit slow, it could be that she's not feeling well due to the higher #s, and may be lethargic overall. As the #s come down, she'll start showing more signs of her former self. Hang in there. It'll happen. And welcome! :-D

Hi Deborah - shwhat nice numbers for Shasta. Great low level blues! Surf well little one.

In regards to the spasms and the messy eating. Some of that I would attribute to age. When my kitties aged they became messy. On the spasms. Mannie had an issue with them too, usually with the front legs. Sometimes it was as if his leg would give out. Come to find out for him this was due to a low potassium level, which can cause overall muscle weakness. This was easily treatable. I can't say for sure this is what it bothering Shasta, but might be worth checking out. Should that be the cause you would want to treat, as it can lead to other problems.

I hope your day is a good one. Shasta, very nice on the BTB. Us beans love that stuff.

Hi Deborah, nice slide for Shasta today. I hope you an get some answers on the changes for her. I've noticed changes in Mags the past year, mostly are age related. I had to get steps for her to get onto the bed, etc. She has arthritis, too. You've gotten some good feedback from everyone.

Nice blues for Shasta today. It's hard when we notice little changes and can't figure out why. Some of it could be because she is getting older. It might put your mind at ease to talk to the vet and have a neurological exam. I hope you and Shasta had a good day.

Hi Deborah,
Shasta is surfing really nicely!
I hope you'll be able to find out the reasons for these changes, and rule out possibilities of health issues one by one.
Lucy is a senior and she can't do some of the things she used to be so good at, like destroying a scratching post or balancing on a thin surface or even throwing up a hairball, but I think it's OK and aging is natural :-D

I am with you on the worrying. I'm going thru similar things.

It sounds like she really could use a good comprehensive exam even though she hates it so.
I'd be requesting that tranquilizer like we've talked about previously.

I wonder too if you have any traveling vets who could come to your house ( probably still need some tranquilizer) to draw blood.

Hugs!

Good evening Angela, Michelle, Ann, Carla, Mariko & Rhiannon ~

Thank you all for your advice and well wishes with my little Shasta. There's something that is telling me that taking her to the vet's would just make everything worse. She comes close to this poor cat, except add asthma type wheezing with her hisses and lots of violence. I will attempt to get a video of her leg spasm thing. Maybe that will help with identifying possible causes. It may be like Michelle described with Mannie. I just don't know. I'm sure the majority of the issues I have noticed are due to aging, but it sucks.

She seemed to be doing well this afternoon when I got home from working in my classroom. I had a massive headache when I left school, so I ran by Shake 'n Steak to grab a milkshake (it's in the 90's and humid...I deserve it.) By the time I got home, I thought I was going to be sick. I grabbed some medication and sat down to rest. She joined me on the couch and loved on me some. Then, I got the most horrible news...my friend lost her battle with brain cancer. My headache coincides with her death, though I did not find out for an hour and a half later.

My dear friend is no longer in pain and will continue her magnificent singing with the heavenly angel choir. My life is richer because of her friendship but I sure do miss her already. Good night, dear heart

Her numbers have been so crazy tonight. I admit, I think I gave her a fat dose tonight...kind of on accident, kind of not...I just didn't see that food spike coming at +2 and then that stoopid drop at +4. darn it. About to get her +6 after I just gave her some licks of 14% FFEMF Turkey. She's not interested in her 3% FF Turkey & Giblets, so I had to do something. :YMSIGH:
