Y'all -- I done goofed up! :arghh:

My sister was yammering to me at shot time yesterday evening and threw me off my routine -- I friggen forgot to put the insulin back in the fridge! :banghead::facepalm::nailbiting:

I usually keep it in one of those zippered ipsy makeup bags, along with the syringes and one of those rectangular plastic lunchbox ice packs.

(I figured a refrigerated, cold ice pack (not frozen) might help keep it cold in case such a thing ever happened, at least for a couple hours, but certainly not over night!)

A quick Google search tells me it might be fine, but now I've only got a month left to use it?

It's a Levemir pen, and it was sitting inside the makeup bag, on the coffee table, in the living room. (We left the front door cracked open overnight to let a breeze in, and it was fairly chilly this morning, so it had that going for it at least.) The pen wasn't cold or warm this morning, but on the cooler side of room temp?

Must I absolutely throw it away after a month, now? I know some people have gotten 6 months or so past the opening date, when they're careful with it. DCIN is sending me some more Levemir later on (IDK when) but I was hoping to use this current one until I absolutely had to toss it.
 
I've left my Lantus pen out for 12 hours and it seems to still work fine. You will know if it's lost its efficacy as Olivia's numbers would start going up.

As far as I'm reading, though, Lantus was designed to be carried around by their users? It can withstand being kept in purses, pockets, etc -- I'm just not sure if Levemir is afforded the same luxury.
 
According to the Insulin Care sticky, Lantus and Lev can be handled pretty much the same way, and Lev can also be kept in purses for human use that should be discarded after 42 days without refrigeration. Leaving the insulin out for 24 hours might decrease the efficacy of it slightly, but probably not enough for it to make a big difference. The only reason to discard immediately is if the Levemir was frozen, but 12 hours outside of the fridge should be ok. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm usually super paranoid about checking and rechecking that I put it away, but it just slipped through the cracks. Especially since I fell asleep on the couch after taking +2 :facepalm:
 
Got the world's sturdiest pair of calipers (I'm pretty sure you could beat a man to death with these) ✅

Also, my sister's dogs are back, so let's see what fresh havoc they have on Olivia's numbers. Yaaaaaay.... :facepalm:

I currently have Walgreens u100 syringes, so I'm off to try and find a measurement of what constitutes. 25u with them.
