He’s had an ear infection and is taking drops (5 drops/5 times per day)—not sure if that’s affecting the BG levels)?

Any infection can potentially affect BG. Also, most ear medications have a steroid in them and will raise BG. You may want to make a note on his SS when you started giving the ear meds and when you stop. I hope Walter's infection clears up soon. Sending prayers.
