Good Friday Morning, Everyone,

We are starting the day in GREEN!! Rusty was green all night (PMPS was 96, +4.5 71). He woke me up before even the "dawn chorus" with kitty kisses to my eyes and ears. Then he settled down. He was hungry for breakfast, which was consumed in 2 1/2 sittings. Before that we had a good test and shot. I wanted him to play with his new "Cat Charmer" toy, but he didn't want to play yet. He was very vocal, leading me to suspect that he wanted still more breakfast (he didn't get it!). Soon I have to take my car in for servicing, so play will be postponed.
Back later,

Everyone have a good Friday.

Hi again,
When I was at my automotive shop this morning I stopped in at the vet practice next door. I had heard good things about this vet and wanted to check her out. I was very favorably impressed. Everyone there was super nice and I got the tour of the facility from the receptionist, met the vet techs and the groomer, and had a chance for about 10 minutes to talk with the vet. She has very few diabetic patients (she uses Humulin N). I told her that Rusty was on Levemir (she didn't know Lantus or Levemir and had switched about a year ago from Vetsulin to Humulin N). So I told her about how well so many diabetic kitties did on Lantus and Lev and she was very interested. I told her Rusty's story (and Stu's) and that I wanted to have a wellness profile on Rusty to use as a baseline. And I asked her specifically if she used anesthesia for bloodwork. She said "absolutely not" and that she and her techs used a very gentle approach to even difficult cats and that she had never had a problem. She was impressed that I had deliberately adopted a diabetic cat, so I told her a little about the diabetic cat community, DCIN, etc. I may decide to go with this vet in the fall when we have Rusty's bloodwork done, if only because she doesn't use anesthesia for a blood draw. This vet is in Lake Placid, about 20 minutes away (versus 5 minutes here in our village), but it might be worth it to switch. Anyway, I'll be thinking about it. I know 4 people who use this vet and they all rave about her.

Rusty seems to be flat today so far--basically flat high green. Wonder what that means?

Ella,

Maybe you can take Rusty in and do an in-house demo of testing like Mel did with Maxwell. I'm feeling so much better that he won't be given anesthesia just for a blood draw. Still miss my boy!

Great numbers for Rusty. The new vet sounds like a winner! :thumbup I hope it works out for you, 20 minutes isn't that far except in an emergency situation.

Oh Rusty! Poor thing on a diet huh? Well, we'll make all the fuds and treats low cal as well as low carb from now on. -- Tess

Hi Ella, this Vet does sound like a good one and it sounds like your gut feeling about her and the Staff was good. Those are nice flat numbers, and I wonder what Rusty has on tap for later. Good luck with the car maintenance.

Re: 6/24 Rusty AMPS 95, +4 107, +6 94

I like how that Vet sounds....no anesthesia for Rusty's bloodwork is good....and she seems open to learning about diabetes....Sounds like a very good Vet practice.

You might be busy tonight w/Rusty.....But I won't bet on it.....Lost a bet w/Sienne the other evening and paid up in pistachio gelato that Gabby probably ate later in the day.

Re: 6/24 Rusty AMPS 95, +4 107, +6 94, +9 104, PMPS 125

So Rusty decided to go up the scale a bit. He had a super play with Edward and the new toy--the Cat Charmer. It moves like a great snake and he trapped it, dragged it into his cube, reached out for it, etc. etc. They played energetically for about 20 minutes. Then Edward thought Rusty was tired (or maybe Edward was), so he put the snake away and Rusty pounced on one of his little mice and played vigorously with it for another 5 minutes. Then he retired to his basket to wait for dinner.

Thanks for your comments on Rusty's probable new vet. I agree that she sounds like she will be very easy to work with and that she won't try to tinker. She told me that she would write a prescription for any insulin I wanted. And we agreed that the Canadian (and European) system was the best: no prescription needed for insulin. Oh, and she makes house calls; and the practice is open 24/7 for emergencies.

To visit some condos now. Everyone have a good Friday evening: TGIF!
