6/24 Bailey AMBG 139 - test results back!

Baileys bloodwork came back.. heres what the vet said

- B12 - <110. Needs B12 injections weekly for 6 weeks then every 2 weeks after that.

- Folate - elevated - means there is bacterial overgrowth which is causing the diarrhea. The flagyl and B12 should resolve this. Bailey to get another course of flagyl. Tiggy too,

- TLI was 6. Normal range is 12-82. Confirms Bailey has EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency). Going to give us pancreatic enzymes for his food.

- Thyroid - 13 - on the low side due to the other issues

So we now know why he eats so much and cant put on weight. I wonder though - will treating this help at all with his diabetes?

Hi guys .. nice start to the day! Glad you got his test results back in .. Glad everything is treatable .. and if these meds mess with his numbers at least you can adjust the insulin accordingly .. have a great day guys!
 
If there's a GI issue, resolving that may help. Bailey may need to be on a longer than usual course of Flagyl. (Gabby was having problems with recurrent diarrhea and it took over a month on Flagyl to resolve the problem.)

There are a couple of brands of pancreatic enzymes. Jill once mentioned that you get what you pay for. If it's feasible, go for the higher priced stuff. Here's a link on EPI that summarizes a recent study.
 
Glad to hear you finally got some test results.

I would think, not being able to digest the food properly with the EPI would be affecting the BG numbers.

Keeping our fingers and 3 sets of paws crossed for Bailey that these new findings and meds help him out.
