Hi FDMB,

I'm looking for advice for my kitty. Long story short; back in January he was diagnosed with diabeties and took about 5 months to go into remission. He stayed low and in the greens on his own for about a month or more. The past week or so he has not been wanting to eat. I've tried everything I can think of: tuna, boiled chicken, freeze dried chicken treats, friskies, fancy feast(which surprised me because he LOVES FF), wet food sprinkled with cheese, baby food with chicken etc.....he just sniffs it or licks it and walks away or lays back down. Im currently feeding him baby food with an oral syringe as he wont eat on his own, he has to eat something. He is still willing to drink water from time to time. His sugar is also rising more and more each day. This morning his sugar was 221 and I wanted to fall to the floor. I dont understand what went wrong.......He mostly just lays around and it saddens me because he was doing super good and then all of a sudden something else got to him and made him sick again. He is also losing weight again hes really thin....it just breaks my heart to pieces..... A few have suggested putting him back on insulin especially since his sugar is rising that high again but I am worried putting him back on insulin as hes not wanting to eat...I'm really worried about him and I'm not sure what else I can do....I dont want to lose my sweet boy....is there anything else i can be doing to make him more comfortable or want to eat?? :(

Hi Crystal. Sorry to hear Hendrix is not as well.
He may be nauseated. He could have pancreatitis.
I would do a couple of things. I would test the urine for ketones (Ketostix) to make sure he doesn’t have any ketones. This is important because he’s not eating and he’s not getting insulin and he may have an infection/ inflammation. I’d do that today..

I’d also take him to the vet and get tested for pancreatitis (fPL snap or spec fPL) to see if it’s that. It could be a UTI also.
He may need more insulin as his BGs have been back in the blue for a week but first get the ketones checked and a vet check.

Hi Bron how are you?? And thank you. I will definitely look and see if i can find some ketone sticks today. As for a vet, it's hard finding a vet right now also I cant really afford a vet at the moment so I'm at a loss for words....honestly. im so scared im going to lose my sweet boy

I also forgot to mention his eyes are all slimy. At first I thought it was tears and I got really sad but when i wipe it away its slimy gooey texture and clearish.

I am fine thanks.
It sounds like he is nauseated.......sniffing the food and walking away is classic sign of nausea. He won’t want to eat if he’s nauseated. So you need to get some cerenia or ondansetron for the nausea.
Do you have any at home?
If not I wonder if you could ring the vet and ask for some?
Its really important he starts to eat not only for if he needs insulins which it looks like he will, but cats needs to eat to stop him getting hepatic lipidosis.
this is not something I would continue to try and fix at home if you have been already trying for a few weeks As he obviously needs some antinausea meds to help him get started to eat.

It really does sound as if you need to take him to the vet.....it will be cheaper in the long run to fix everything now than wait until he is much worse. Could you manage a vet visit do you think?
Make sure you get those Ketostix and test for ketones today....it’s important!

Yes he definitely doesnt feel well and I feel horrible. I can try to call around different vets and ask about those two medications for him and see what they say. I just feel like he isnt going to be around much longer and it breaks me down. Hes so tiny now and barely wants to even get up. It hit him so quickly it's only been a week or more and hes gotten so sick I've did everything I could think of and he just lays there. I will get those sticks today too and I'll get back to you when i am able to do one he doesnt pee much since hes been like this.

Something else must be going on such as pancreatitis for him to go downhill so quickly. There are places that can help with finances if necessary. I’ll tag @Chris & China (GA) she may be able to suggest something. how much is he eating a day now?

I feel like he was fine. Was doing great. Then the one day i woke up and he was all sick and didn't want to eat I dont know what happened....i wish i could do something for him. I tried everything to make him comfortable atleast. I made him a little bed with food and water next to him and his litter so he doesnt have to go far or be bugged. He just likes to lay in the bathtub.

Today, i put down 2 different wet foods and he just looked at them and laid back down. So I tried to oral syringe feed him some baby food he ate some of it but after awhile he just spits it out or pushes his head away. :(

There is a file in the Health Links forum listing financial resources. Like Bron, I think he needs a vet visit, and possibly bloodwork. There are a couple conditions, both treatable that I can think of are possibilities, I am sure the vet could think of more.

Hi wendy i will do my best to get him to a vet. Money is just always tight so I have to do what I can sadly. I will call around and see which vet is some what cheaper

Please let us know how you get on. We worry.
I really do think he needs to see a vet to find out what it is that is causing the nausea. As Wendy said the conditions we are thinking of are very treatable but don’t leave it too long.
