Good Saturday Morning, Everyone,

Rusty had a good night. He wanted us up early, but had to wait until the ducks sounded the alarm. We had a good test, a shot that may or may not have been accurate (because of the MJ syringe problem), breakfast of Wellness Turkey (not entirely finished yet), and now a nap in his basket. This basket is really on it's last legs and I think it's time to find a replacement. It is held together with tape and string! It had been Stu's, and he also crammed himself into it because, like Rusty, he loved baskets that were too small for his great size. Two cats cramming themselves into a basket that originally held fruit and cheese has taken its toll on the basket.

We are expecting rain this weekend, but it hasn't started yet. Edward thanks you for your concern about his infected hand. It looks a little better this morning. We will be going to the farmers' market this morning. Yesterday we got some delicious local strawberries from a farmer who sets up almost every day near the edge of the village.

Rusty will no doubt be on the hunt later, when he wakes up.

Wishing you all a good weekend. Continuing to keep Lyresa and her family in our thoughts and prayers,

Ella & Rusty

Nice amps Rusty pants!

Too funny about the basket Ella:) I love how you've kept it alive with tape and string! Our kitters definitely like their special places for sleeping and it sounds like this basket has a very special place in your heart as well:)

Wishing you a nice weekend. Hope those strawberries are extra sweet:) Sending healing vines to Edward's hand.

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120

Morning Ella, and Edward - more healing vines for your hand.

Looking good this morning Rusty - thinking about some greens maybe?

Love the basket story - I think it has character, and wonder - will he use a new one? It is so funny how they cram themselves into what is too small for them. Mannie's bed is meant for a cat half his size, yet he still sleeps in it. well he tries too....

Enjoy the market today. I remember you talking last summer about the local strawberry merchant - along the edge of the village. Very cool!

Enjoy your day today. I hope your weather is god: we are wet and raining - again.

Nice day for Rusty! Sounds busy there as always. Hope Edward's hand is getting better. The farmers market sounds fun. Have a great day Ella!

Wow, Rusty, what a nice cycle! Yum on those strawberries. Glad to hear Edward's hand is improving.

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47

Hi again,
Rusty just got the 3rd number under 50 on this fat 1.5 dose, so I am shaving the dose to a regular 1.5 this evening. Even though we had some trip-related spikes and bounces last week, I believe that over all he has been angling for a decrease. A complicating factor, of course, is the problem with the accuracy of the recent lots of MJ syringes. I will measure my good syringe with the calipers to determine what a 1.5 looks like. Then, assuming that I can see whether or not there is insulin in the hub (very difficult and not always possible), I may be able to measure the dose. Marje said that if she could accurately "transfer" Gracie's dose from the MJs to another brand of syringe that does not have the complication of a hub, she would do it. Rusty's dose is not as small as Gracie's, so I think I might try this route. Today I ordered a box of Terumos and a box of BDs to experiment with. I have heard that these brands are not accurate. But at least they don't have a hub and it may be possible to do everything with the calipers. Stay tuned!

We've had a few much needed thunder showers this afternoon. Got some nice produce at the farmers' market this morning: arugula, field greens, snap peas, garlic scapes. We also bought a vegan quiche baked by the people at our health-food store and will have it for supper tonight. Yum!

Edward's hand looks a lot better this afternoon,

bbl,

Ella & Rusty (who enjoyed some outdoor time, but who didn't see the chipmunk)

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47

Congrats on the dosecrease. The kitties seem to be on a roll today. Is there a Full Moon around the corner? That's a real pain on the syringes. I just opened a new box of MJ's and will take a look at the lines. Glad Rusty's hand is better.

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47

Hi Ann & Maggie,
It's not the lines that are the problem with the MJs. The lines are usually very good. The problem is that the base of the needle (in these recent lots) does not come all the way down to the zero line. Because of this, insulin gets above the zero line, resulting in a larger dose than intended. Since you measure Maggie's dose by counting drops, this would not be a problem for you.
(I'll post this reply in Maggie's condo, too).

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47, PMPS 64

Hi again,
Rusty got his reduction--I think! A shave to a regular 1.5. However, the first syringe I opened didn't look good and I had to struggle with a huge bubble, so I set it aside and opened another one. Guess what: the Lev. cartridge was almost empty and I couldn't fill the second syringe. So I went back to the first, worked out the bubble, but then couldn't tell if there was insulin above the zero line or not. So I shot it anyway. It may have been 1.5 units :-x I think that tomorrow morning I won't fool around anymore with these MJs from the recent lots. I have a whole box of 30-gauge MJs from last summer that all look very good. I was going to save them for when (if) Rusty's dose became very small, but I think I might use a few of them now. At least until we are up and running with the new dose. I hope he'll tolerate the thicker needle.

Edward's hand looks almost normal this evening.

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47, PMPS 64

Congrats on the reduction/shave. Good luck with the syringes, I know how annoying it is, and even harder now that Daphne is on one drop. We use BD, but only because we started with them and I don't want to take the chance and change now. The line is sometimes farther away from the end then others, so just be careful to see that, if you use them. I count drops too now, so it's a little better.

Glad to hear Edwards hand is getting better.

Have a great weekend, the vegan quiche sound good. Are you vegan? I'm vegetarian, and almost vegan. I wonder what they use for eggs.

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47, PMPS 64

Nice numbers for Rusty. Good luck with the shave and also figuring out the syringe problem. LOL

Great that Edward's hand is doing better. Bites can be serious for people and animals. Khoko got a bite on his tummy and it took the vet 2 1/2 hours to clean it out because it abscessed.

I'll gladly send you some of our storms if I could. We are about rained out but it will be here till Tuesday they say. UGH.

Yes, Katie is doing well. She still has a good recovery in front of her but she will make it. She is very positive about all of it. It's been a rough 8 months here. I lost 4 of my babies and then the Katie thing. Hopefully all is on the upswing now.

Thanks for visiting us. Yes, Tuffy is a character and sometimes I threaten her but I would be lost without her antics. She keeps all of us in line. LOL

Re: 6/23 Rusty AMPS 120, +5.5 80, +9.25 47, PMPS 64

Good luck with the shave. Rusty sure looks good today.

I know how frustrated you are. I've ordered the Terumos and the BDs and drawn insulin with both but didn't use the Terumos on Gracie. While they are both inaccurate, I thought the Terumos were much better. I know if I could only figure out how to transfer her dose, I could easily dose with the Terumos and the calipers. I know our own MJ (Donovan) has some micropipettes she could send me. At some point, I may have to go that route to figure the dose out in the Terumo.

Glad Edward is better!! Tobey wants to bring KTSS so he can snuggle with his Auntie Ellabean!! I almost sent him to you today...he's been hollering his head off all day long.   He told me to tell you not to forget to see the video on our condo ....he's starring in it ;-)

HAPPY 2-MONTHS ANNIFURSARY, VYKTOR!! (you too, Serryn!)

Sounds like Vyktor is doing great and is now in Winter Mode: furry hot-water bottle indeed  .
Thanks for all your encouraging visits to Rusty's condo. We're so glad you're sticking around.

How cold does it get during winter where you live? Does the growing season continue at all? Are there special, Australian winter veggies? Got any good winter recipes?

Enjoy the weekend. Scritches to Vyktor. How's Meg rabbit?

Hugs from us,
Ella & Rusty

p.s. Edward's hand looks a bit better this morning. He does not want to compete with Rusty!!

Go Rusty, congrats on the reduction  You know he's not going to want to have anything to do with a new basket don't you  I'm sure he likes the old one just the way that it is.

Perth doesn't get as cold as the east coast but it's pretty chilly in the mornings, around 35. During the day we've still been getting to around 70 but it will get colder yet. There are winter crops but I have been a bit slack  diggin up the vegie patch is on my list and moving up towards the top because there's a lot of things that like being planted in July/Aug at the moment I still have a few limes, the lemon tree is overloaded (I don't think it's supposed to be but my lemon tree has no regard for seasons and is rarely without fruit  ) and some leeks coming along.

I've been making a bit of soup lately a lovely cauliflower with a hint of cumin and, always a favourite, potato and leek. Mouth is watering over vegan quiche, I haven't done one of those for ages.

Since a few people asked I will add a Meg update to Vyktor's condo, the kitties might not like it if she gets her own
