Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Info. about Milo

Julie asked me about Milo.

Milo was my 15 year old classic tabby. He had IBD which eventually converted to lymphoma. He took prednisolone for a long time and that seemed to control his condition. Then he started losing weight rapidly. I took him to the vet several times in the last few weeks of his life. He was never diagnosed with diabetes. On his last vet trip, the vet found a sizable mass in his abdomen that hadn't been there just a few weeks before. She biopsied it, but before the biopsy results came back, Milo had a diabetic seizure. I rushed him to the Pet ER and they gave him glucose which eased the seizure. However, he went blind and his eyesight did not come back. The Pet ER vet told me that the tumor in his abdomen probably "sucked" all of the glucose out of his system. I had to have my sweet boy euthanized that night. I knew his condition was hopeless and I didn't want to put him through any more. When the biopsy results came back a few days later, it was confirmed that he had large cell lymphoma.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I posted about this a couple of days ago. One of Oliver's eyes has a pupil that doesn't contract as much as the other one. I took him to the vet and she looked into his eye. Said the nerves in the back of the eye looked okay and no sign of a tumor. This morning, his eye looks terrible. It is red and watery and he is keeping that eye closed. I just made an appointment with the kitty ophthalmologist but the earliest appointment I could get was for July 3rd. I hope he will be okay until then.

There is another Ophthamologist in town, but my niece took her dog there and they screwed up an eye surgery and her dog went blind. I don't want to go there.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I'd take him back to my regular vet ASAP. He could possibly have an ulcer from herpes which can also cause cats to lose an eye. Or he could have conjunctivitis which is very painful. I don't mess around with eyes.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I made an appointment for my regular vet for tomorrow at 4 PM. That is the earliest they could see me. He doesn't seem to be in pain. He is his usual playful self.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I hope they can find a relatively quick fix for Oliver's eye. Doesn't sound fun, but I guess he doesn't know it!

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

 Poor Oliver....I bet his eye is very uncomfortable but at least his bg's don't show it. Well Done Oliver!! Hope your vet can figure it out.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I'd want to get his eye looked at immediately too. Perhaps the vet can work you in before tomorrow if they have a cancellation.

thanks for telling Milo's story. I have read that there are unusual medical situations where a hypo can occur without a cat getting insulin, but haven't actually known of a situation where that had happened. I'm so sorry you went through it. :YMHUG:

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I have asked to be called if either the ophthalmologist or my regular vet gets a cancellation. I would take him to the Pet ER, but I did have him seen the first time I noticed his eye problem (about three weeks ago) and he had some tests that seemed to confirm it was not a serious problem. It has just suddenly seemed worse today. It looks irritated. Or maybe he got something in it.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

I hope you get a vet appointment soon. Is Oliver pawing at the eye?

Otherwise, a lovely BG for a trial day.

Re: 6/23 - Oliver - AMBG=70 Eye looks terrible.

No. He isn't pawing at it. He doesn't seem to be in pain. He is eating and playing. But he is walking around with that eye closed. I called my vet again. They definitely can't see me until tomorrow. I could take Oliver to the Pet ER, but I'm just not sure it really is an emergency. If he seemed to be in pain, I would take him, but he seems otherwise fine.
