I'm amazed at my little girl.

She did sneeze a little more last night (once or twice) and this morning she sneezed a few times while eating, but she was also inhaling chicken dust, but I'm not counting those. She often sticks her nose in the chicken dust and has little chicken dust sneezes. Appetite was iffy again - she seemed like she wanted food, but then only nibbled a bit. With chicken dust, she ate about 1 1/3 Tbsp FF breakfast. But she's polishing off whatever is left in the bowls when I'm not around. The bowl I left out last night was licked clean before I woke up on the couch this morning and stumbled to bed.

Blue was out for about 3 hours last night, sleeping on the couch with me. I wasn't sleeping -he was. I had to peel his sleeping body off the couch and put him in the cage for bed. Blue likes to sleep. It may be the secret to his success. The joke with Blue was always that he could fall asleep immediately - like a narcoleptic. He would be nowhere to be seen, I'd get up for less than a minute to put a DVD in the player or something, back up and try to sit back on the couch, only to realize that in the 20 seconds since I'd left the couch, Blue had jumped up, curled up and completely fallen asleep in my spot.

I heard from the vet tech who was changing Blue's bandage in the months before the surgery. She said she was really surprised that he was accepting the cage so well and then she wrote:

I think you really did what was best for Blue and I commend you on making the descision that you did.

She wasn't initially in favor of what I decided - she wouldn't have gone the surgery route, she'd told me before. So, I'm not sure if she's changed her mind or if she's just being supportive. She basically said before the surgery that she was supportive of my decision but if it were her cat, she'd go a different route. I'm not sure what route that would be - perhaps just continuing to care for the foot until it got so bad that ... well, anyway. But she has 26 cats or something like that - maybe that changes things.

I sent her some pics last night and she wrote:

He looks TERRIFIC!!!!!! WOW, has he healed well. That happy fluff-ball never ceases to amaze me. He really looks great:)

Gotta take a shower and get ready for work. I was too tired last night to wash my hair before bed, so guess I'm going to have wet hair for a few hours today...

Nice post. About Blue and the vet's comments, and about how well Blue is doing.

I hope Kasha gets over her sneezes.

You must have long hair like me. My hair takes hours to dry too.

Have a good day.

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Kasha has been doing great these past few days and what lovely words to hear from your vet.

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Well, it was the vet tech actually... but she's been a veterinary nurse/tech for something like 25 years.

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Gizmo's breeder usually has around 17 cats in the house. They are really great people who breed incredible cats. All of them are raised under foot so the kittens are very social and well adjusted. They do, however, make very different decisions regarding their cats' health than I would make. EBID.

Great AMPS for Kasha! And Blue sounds like a complete snuggle kitty.

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Nice number for Kasha. That was so nice of the Vet Tech to write you about Blue. She seemed very impressed, and it's nice she was supportive of your decision originally, even though it wasn't the route she would choose. It sounds like she has learned from Blue. You never know when a miracle can occur. When my GA cat needed more critical care, the first Vet disagreed with me, almost angrily. I went ahead and got him more critical care with an Internal Medicine Vet, and he did respond. It's good to go with your gut feeling.

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

great start to the day! Kasha and mocha are in the same neighborhood, I hope they hang out together ... that is so funny about blue falling asleep wherever, whenever. Our old boy Cheddar used to do that all the time. I have this one picture of him, where he had started to take a bath up on a cat stand, and his was cleaning his rump area and then he must of passed out and fell asleep cause in the picture his leg is on top of his head!

and trust me, he really WAS sleeping!

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

I told Latte that Kasha should be her inspiration!
No pressure, or anything on either kitty!

You are amazing, with all the juggling you are doing.
So actually, YOU are the inspiration! :YMHUG:

Keep up the good work in that household of yours.

(been meaning to thank you for your suggestion of the pred injection...that is actually a dex shot that your other cat received...more potent. the injectible we found is a compound version of prednisolone pill..in case you ever need to know ;-) Latte uses the steroid to reduce inflammation in her GI tract for whatever GI disease she actually has - ibd, lymphoma, or any of the other zillion possibilities. She wouldnt be alive without it, as I have tried to take her off. )

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Thanks Carolyn! That's such a nice thing to say - you made my day! I'm such a perfectionist, I never feel like I am doing enough for them...

But I think you are an inspiration yourself. With all you've done for Latte - I've read over your SS and profile and I am just amazed at all you two have gone through together. Latte is a lucky girl!

Re: 6/23 Kasha AMPS 140

Great post this morning! Hope Kasha feels better...nice AMPS.
So nice about Blue...that was such a wonderful report! :YMHUG:

She ate pretty much all of dinner - took some encouraging though. 2 Tbsp FF. She just went up on the bed, which is a little odd since lately, she only goes on the bed when it's bedtime and she thinks I'm coming in there too. I got close to her and she sounds a little congested - which makes me worry and watch her more. It could be because she just ate dinner and she kind of sticks her face in the food and chicken dust sometimes. Also - it's hard to tell the very quiet purr-sound she makes from congestion. I listened some more and didn't hear anything. She played attack-the-hand and seems content. I'll keep an eye on her.

Blue really is getting that E collar down. He shoves it around with his head and seems to use it to shield his eyes from the light. Hope he doesn't miss it.

I stopped in at lunch to check Kasha. Brought a friend from work who is the same person that went with me to pick up Blue after surgery. So - she saw Blue then and this is the first time since. She said the incision looks great now. And, of course, she agreed that my little trooper is doing so well...

Produce update: Picked my first cucumber of the year from my plants this morning. Shared it with the friend I just mentioned and BF - this is a new variety of cucumber for me, supposed to be sweet and disease/insect resistant. I'm happy to say it was great - sweet and yummy, tiny seeds and thin skin. Which is good because by next week I'll probably have 30 of them all ready to pick at the same time. That's the way it is with cukes...

Kasha is doing great today! And its nice to hear how Blue is adapting, it's amazing how well they do that.

I'm jealous, I have no green thumb whatsoever!

The beauty is - I have no green thumb either. I got these self-watering planters last year and I think you can't screw it up unless you forget to fill them with water daily. And that, I can remember! LOL...
