Got it! Thank you ALL. I will set my alarm early and see what's what in the a.m. Boo's looking better and acutally just played with a toy for a minute.

(and great to see you Lori)

Thank you ALL. AGAIN.

I owe you. Big time.

Carla

What a night!! I hope you are off sleeping soundly, but I just wanted you to know...

It does get better, and it does get easier.  Sure, you will have your share of sleep deprivation from time to time, but this place really does make it all so much easier. You're not alone. At some point, when your eyes are glazed over from reading the stickies for the 20th time, click on some random kitties' spreadsheets. They can be very helpful in just looking at the progress our cats has made over their time in the sugar dance and also is a nice reminder that we've all been where you are right now. I know when I was starting out, it just really helped with my frayed nerves.

And Marjorie was right... no matter how much you love your vet, at the end of the day, you are the one responsible for Boo. It is perfectly okay for you to make the decision you are most comfortable with, especially since you're doing so with the input and suggestions of many people who have walked this path before you. The great thing is that you are learning all that you can about FD and that will position you to be the best possible advocate for her care, allowing you to have educated conversations with your vet (and yes, it should be a dialogue, not merely a set of instructions to be blindly followed) that will allow Boo to have a team of people coming to the best possible decisions for her.

She is a very lucky girl to have such a caring bean!!

(hugs) to you tonight! Sweet dreams!!

Thank you Christie... I will try to take some time tomorrow at work to look at people's SS's. It will also help me formulate an eating schedule for Boo, I think.

I woke up few minutes ago and Boo followed me to her bowl and ate a little more. She doesn't look 100% but she looks a little better. The good news is, I followed HER to the litter box and actually managed to sneak a big ladel underneath her to capture some pee (now THERE'S a sentence I never thought I would type!). Negative for ketones! At least there's that! @-)

If she hasn't already gone back to bed, I might sneak in another test, but if she has, I might just wait a few more hours. Poor girl... I feel like I've poked her silly in the last few days.

A question hit me today that I almost can't bring myself to consdier.... I have been home testing for THREE DAYS. She has been on insulin for a MONTH. How many times has she bottomed out and I didn't know it?!

ugh!

Carla: good job on the ketones!!! I make little foil trays and slip them under Gracie's bottom....she never knows they are there!!

IMHO, I wouldn't test any more tonight as long as she has kept coming up. Give both of you a break and get some rest. Looks like we're making a testaholic out of you like the rest of us

In answer to your last question, that is why it is so very important to home test. We helped another person last week who did not regularly home test and blindly shot insulin (altho a low dose). Her kitty was on his fourth hypo....he was so low that his BG wouldn't even register on the meter so it had to be under 20. Our girl hit 27 one night and it scared the crappus out of me and we'd been at this about six months by then. Home testing is your friend and your power.

I'm off to bed. Great work....you are learning fast. Sweet dreams!

Just got up again to see if Boo would eat something. I was going to take up the bowl 2/3 hours before I tested her in the morning. She ate a little just now, so I'm going to do just that. Will make sure I'm not testing food numbers for her AMPS. The other two cats will be just have to live with it. :)

I'm under a bit of a "how in the world am i going to manage this by myself?" cloud right now. Thank you all for being there with me.

xo
