I increased Phoenix's insulin on the 19th to 10.5 units. He dropped to 50 BG that evening so the next day, I dropped back down to 10.25 units for one injection. I then increased back to 10.5 units.

I fed him one half can of fancy feast gravy lovers at + 4.5 today when his BG dropped to 53. I checked 20 minutes later and his BG was 46 at + 5. I gave him a piece of beef with honey.
I just checked again and it has risen to 80 so I am breathing a sigh of relief. It is now his regular lunch time so I am going to feed him.
This is scary. Would it be okay to drop back to 10.25 units?
Please advise, thank you

Have you had Phoenix tested for a high dose condition? I didn't see the info on your SS or in your signature

With a cat that's more than a year past diagnosis, the point at which you give a dose reduction is:
  • numbers drop below 40 or
  • numbers are in the 40 - 50 range on 3 separate cycles or
  • your cat's numbers are largely in normal range for a week
These instructions may be modified for a cat with acro or insulin resistance. I would defer to @Wendy&Neko if Phoenix has been diagnosed.

I fed Phoenix three quarters of a cup of chicken hearts and checked again 10 minutes later. He has dropped to 75 BG. I will check again in 15 minutes.

Phoenix’s vet says he doesn’t have acromegaly, but we don’t have the IGF-1 number. Some vets have gotten the range wrong. But he’s a big boy with a big dose. I would make changes by 0.5 units, not 0.25 7nits at this point. Caution is key with larger depots.
