Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161

He will. I would think the number is also adjusting to the depo being depleted. He's still holding good numbers. Max was between 160-200 when not diabetic at the vet's office. I recently looked at all his glucose levels that I have which is a lot due to his age and pancreatitis and made a list. Some cats run higher than others I suspect. I bet Peyton will be keeping you about again tonight!!

Hey, when's the wedding?

Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161,+3.5 52

I was nervous to leave Peyton and go to church this morning but since I wouldn't be gone too long I decided to go. I ran by before heading to my parents for lunch and that boy wants to keep me home! Or he wants to go to my parents too :)
He has dropped to 52 so I fed him 9% food to try to keep him from dropping further. Hopefully my Mom will just make me a to go plate. My baby comes first :)

Elise, with all that has been going on with Peyton and the rest of my zoo I haven't even thought about a date yet. It stresses me out too much to think about. I will probably just do something real small with family and close friends. I think I'm too old for a traditional wedding

Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161,+3.5 52

you should have the wedding that is special to you, regardless of your age!

my eldest daughter is getting married in October, so we are thick in the midst of wedding planning. I'm working on a quilt for her - hopefully i won't be finishing it the night before the wedding!

peyton seems to be over the chocolate milk episode. we could call him a Midnight Chocolate Milk Bandit!

Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161,+3.5 52

That is very special Julie! I wish I were that talented. After things settle down around here I'm sure I will plan something a little more elaborate. My animals have always come first but I need a little me time as well. Luckily I am marrying an ex vet tech who loves animals. He's not quite as crazy as I am. I feel like I can take better care of the animals. Lol!

Well my attempt to keep him up with higher carb food failed. He has dropped to 42 so I fed him HC gravy.

...midnight milk chocolate bandit (mmcb)...I love it!!!

Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161,+3.5 52,+4 42

It's nice to see Peyton got back to blues and greens for you so quickly. I hope you can get him to surf a little higher.

Re: 6/22 Peyton AMPS 161,+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45

HC gravy got him to 45...trying again

AMPS 161
+3.5 52 fed 9% food
+4 42 gave HC gravy
+4.25 45 gave HC gravy

I hope he will surf higher as well. Thanks for coming by to check on us :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70

Whew! Got him to 70 :)
I will have to look back too Elise and see what Peyton's previous glucose readings were. I have focused so much on his kidneys that I wasn't paying that much attention to it. We just can't overlook anything.

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70

It's not a necessity but it might give some clues as to what was normal for him. Max never got the kind of readings that the cats that have gone OTJ get here. I'm glad Peyton has decided to come back up. did he mess up your plans? I could have gone to class from the readings I got. I'll just try to substitute Tuesday for today. Are you listening, Max?

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70

Bye Bye Chocolate Milk high

Looks like we need to rally the troops and decide the next step for Mr. Peyton. BBL.

I have no idea how old you are but I was 28 when we got married and had a traditional wedding. I think it doesn't matter how old you are. Go for it (btw, my cousin's second marriage was when she was 50 and she also had a beautiful, traditional wedding). You should have what you want! IMHO ;-)

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70

Wow, Peyton is looking good. You had too work to keep him up. No chocolate milk today.

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

I waited until I got him above 70 then left him with MC food and ran to my parents. They live about 10 minutes from me so I didn't have to be gone long. When I got back he had made it up to 92. With as much HC gravy he had I was expecting him to be higher than that. Glad he didn't rise too high.
Peyton and I are just saying NO to chocolate milk for a while :)

I had lost 15 pounds by since Peyton's diagnosis I have put a few back on. I just made a trip to the grocery store to get myself back on track. I don't want to undo all the hard work I've done. Can't a banana cure stress just as well as a snicker?! Ha

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

Wow! He sure shook the chocolate milk quickly!

As little as he's getting now, I'd think you'd be doing a trial soon...then you won't have to worry about being gone, planning your wedding (Congratulations by the way!) or missing out on meals at Mom's house!

Time to surf now Peyton!

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

I'm thinking a trial will start maybe tomorrow? Let's see if I'm right. Anti-jinx.

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

Maybe I could lose those last 10 pounds! Lol

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

did someone say a trial?

Julie, what do you think? are ya ready to give it trial? It looks like he's ready. Here are your directions.

Start the trial on his next green preshot.

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

If he gets through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic, but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low-carb food and small meals for the rest of his life. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood sugar weekly for the next few months and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him monthly. His weight should remain stable. If he seems "off" or sick, or is showing symptoms of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss) test his blood sugar right away. Keep the teeth clean; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission.

If you see rising blood sugar numbers, post here before you restart insulin and ask for advice on how to proceed.

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

Congratulations on the trial!!!

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

Come on Pey and give us some green!!!! I normally don't bite my nails but they are going to be GONE in the next hour! He's been begging for food for the last couple hours so I've been trying to appease him with some zero carb baby food. Looking back at his ss we have been very close to a green preshot before but it hasn't happened yet. I won't get my hopes up too much that tonight will be the night.
I have copied all of the information and highlighted sections. I'll be back on in an hour :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

Who-hoo! Peyton sure got over his chocolate milk fix quickly. Yay!! Another trial!!!

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

oh, wow, what a beautiful day for Peyton today and what is this I hear about a trial????? woohoo! Good luck

And a wedding too..well, I wonder if green will be one of your colors

Re: 6/22 Peyton+3.5 52,+4 42,+4.25 45,+4.5 54,+4.75 70,+6.5

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Julie...the other thing you can try is to give him a small, LC snack at about +9. If his pancreas is working, it should bring the PS down. This is something we sometimes try with kitties close to a trial if the PS is still a bit high.

Good luck with the trial and don't worry about one blue number here and there. We'll be watching. ;-)

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

If at first you don't succeed...try try again :)

Tonight is not the night but hopefully soon. I think he has a pj party in store for me instead :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

Julie, did you read Marje's reply. I think tonight is the trial. Did you decide to shoot instead?

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

It's fine if you shot tonight Julie!

Yes, we like to see the Preshot green, so if you can, let's try Marje's idea and give him a snack around +9...that may bring his preshot numbers down some

Don't know what time your +9 is, but mine's at 3am  :-D

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

I didn't mean to insinuate that you did anything wrong by shooting. I was just surprised.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

We are a few hours behind you on that +9. My +9 will be 5:30. Should it be baby food with zero carbs or will 2% carb food be fine?

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

You are just looking out for us Elise. Thank you! If it weren't for your help and so many others we wouldn't have made it this far :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

i'd give 2 teaspoons of low carb cat food at the +9 - feeding at that time can bring down the preshots, as marje says. you can do that during the day, too.

He's really close. Maybe tomorrow will be it. :-D don't be discouraged - i suspect the +9 snack will help.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

We will definitely try that. Tomorrow or tonight I'm going to try to catch those low numbers before they get too low. Seems like when he goes low he pops back up for the next PS

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

Has anyone suggested that you try front loading his carbs?

Take his normal pre-shot meal and split it into 3-4 meals and give some at Pre-shot,+1,+2 and +3 and see if you can slow down those drops that keep triggering the little bounces

Might be something else to try going forward to see if it helps!

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142

That's a good idea Chris! He eats tiny meals throughout the day so those meals would be extremely tiny. I can at least cut it down some and add it to +1 and +2 and see if that helps. The only problem is tomorrow and Tuesday I won't be home until +2.5. Ugh! Work :(

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128

Why was my alarm set for 12:30 and I'm just getting up at 2:00?? There's no way it was going off for that long. Ugh!
Well now he's dropped again...lather, rinse, repeat...

Chris, I think Julie had sent me a link to a timed feeder. I'll have to go back and look it up and order it. A timed feeder would be great because when I leave food with him he ends up eating it all right away.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37

Hey, it's a pj party!! So with a 37 are you starting the trial tomorrow?

Mr. Max took a dive too. One more and I have to reduce.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65

I don't want to jinx him but Max is doing great!...im knocking on wood!
I will have to go reread what Julie wrote but I think she said the PS needs to be green for the trial to start? I'll double check

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65

Well, Max is sort of doing great. He went under 50 for the second time. One more and it's a mandatory reduction. Of course I want him to go down but it's nice to see blues and greens. He likely will bounce from this anyhow.

The way Peyton rebounds so easily and drops so much on a tiny dose I wonder what you would do without a green pre-shot. I mean you can't give him any less insulin than you are giving. I wonder if anyone ever doses a drop once a day???

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70

That's true! I'll be praying for a green PS!
Time to surf now boys :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70

My niece came over yesterday and sometimes she writes things on post-its and puts them on my fridge. I just noticed there is one on there that's says "Peyton can do it!" I just love that kid :)

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70

I'm about to test now.Max hasn't come up yet.Welln now 66. I have at least another hour or two to go. I just gave him more hc.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70

I'm about to retest Peyton as well and make sure he's staying up. I like these pj parties a lot better when I don't have to be at work the next morning!

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,.+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70

I bet. It would be even better if you could sleep in .

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70,+6.2

PMPS 142
+2 128
+5 37 fed HC
+5.25 65 fed MC
+5.75 70 no food
+6.25 75 no food

He has stayed up for an hour without any food so I guess we will call it a night...at least for a little while anyway :)
Come on up and surf for Momma Max

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70,+6.2

Lucky you. I'm going to test and hopefully be able to stop feeding now. Sleep well.

Re: 6/22 Peyton PMPS 142,+2 128,+5 37,+5.25 65,+5.75 70,+6.2

I tried to feed him a little 2% food at 8.75 but he had a bowel movement and wasn't interested. He nibbled just a little bit.
