More details in the spreadsheet. I think he's stabilizing. I hope that the AM bump from 36 to 52 today is normal and not indicative of something else by giving him the Fancy Feast yesterday. Also slightly worried that the pet store is out of Evo chicken and turkey so last night and this morning I've given him Wellness turkey & salmon, but I know Wellness is a good food too. Hopefully I can get some cans of Evo again tonight.

EVENING EDIT: Tonight’s poking took over a half hour of following Garfunkel around, blowing three strips and multiple pokes. Numbers could be slightly elevated due to stress over this.

Welcome! We have not stopped by your condo before but wanted to say hello. What a beautiful kitty! I hope Garfunkel stabilizes and you have a great day!

Yet another welcome to Lantus Land. My favorite pic of Garfunkel is the one where he's on his back and showing his belly. I actually chuckled when I saw that. He looks as if he's a much loved kitty. Good luck with the dosing and the #s.

What a handsome boy!!

It looks to me like Garfunkel has decided he's had it with insulin. This looks like it's Day 2 of an OTJ trial to me!! Here are the instructions:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Pretty much do what you've been doing except please get a test at your usual PMPS time. What you can post in your subject line is your AMBG and PMBG (vs. AM or PMPS) and count the days vs. the hours. If Garfunkel stays in normal numbers for 14 days, we have a party to celebrate his being OTJ.

What an adorable kitty! Loved all the pics.

Sure looks like Garfunkel (love that name!) is done with insulin 0 he sure is doing well without it! Good luck with the trial. :-D

We have a stressed out kitty photo collection over on community...i think a few of garfunkel's photo's might be elidgable, maybe the one of him sleeping on your hand while you are using your mouse.
we like to show people how stressed out diabetic cats really are..... :lol:

Congrats!! An OTJ trial!!! Love the photos....he's a very handsome boy.

Phil....if you could please PM me your GMAIL email address, I can transfer the full ownership of his SS over to you and get my email address off of it. We are hoping he will go OTJ successfully but once a diabetic, always a diabetic and we recommend that once he's OTJ, you test him monthly so you'll want to keep his SS.

Great job!!!

Way to go Garfunckle! :thumbup :thumbup Really only one shot of insulin? I think that's a record. I haven't seen your condo before, was there a food change?

I have to find my original posts later (on my iPhone at work), but he was on 2u, twice a day, since May 27th.

The day I started home-testing I found him at 38. So if I hadn't started it probably could've been really bad.

I also changed his food to Evo chicken and turkey wet as soon as I suspected he had diabetes in early May. I had hoped the food change alone would've been enough, but after two weeks on the new diet he was still testing at 500+ in the vet's office. Prior to the food change I had a mix of wet (Newman's Own Organics, mostly, but also Wellness, Evo, etc.) and he always had Evo dry kibble to munch on.
 
Evening bump with new numbers. He tested at 75. Slightly worried he may keep escalating, but tonight's test took over half an hour and multiple pokes, so it could've been higher due to stress?
 
I dont know what kind of stress Garfunkel is having, but I wish Luna would get stressed like that! :mrgreen:

Yes, I'll start naming the thread that way tomorrow morning. Hopefully that poke goes a lot easier because I don't have 30+ min to spend in the morning before work like tonight.
