6/21 Minnie PMPS 137 +3 169

Pleasantly dull over here :) though she is being a bit cranky with her food. Threw an ondansetron down her mouth this morning when she was licking her mouth (success!) then still had to clamp her mouth shut for a few minutes to ensure she didn't spit it out. So relieved they dissolve, otherwise we really would be sitting there for hours.

Not sure how much of this is due to lower BG meaning less appetite, or it's very hot here (by Seattle standards), or she is just being her usual diva-y self. Last few meals, she eats a bit then walks away so I re-offer it at +1 and +2 - essentially she is now getting the recommended smaller meals. It's just hard putting all those meds/supplements into a small amount of food and disguise them!

Okay... first question... are you done with the Amikacin yet? I hope so!
Wellll I think so. Yesterday nearly emptied the vial though I have about a pint of saline leftover!

I emailed the IM for next steps and meant to call at the end of the day but forgot. I want to know if they're going to do another urine culture. All I know about antibiotics is you don't want to stop them before the infection's cleared...so I need to nag them again. That'll be 3 nudges from me on treating this UTI!

Not that great how you need to nudge them! How is Minnie's appetite lately... up and down from the sound of it? She has the widest array of different types of foods of any cat I have ever seen (well... I see a lot of different foods on her SS). I wonder if Darcy would eat AD? I have a bad feeling he wouldn't eat it... since he doesn't want to eat anything these days.

I'll go to Petco and try individual cans that I see others use and try them before buying a case on chewy. End result is I have lots of individual things she won't eat. She used to LOVE chicken frickazee and paw lickin chickin and now she licks around the chicken and leaves the shreds of meat on the floor. Tiki - meh. Peking ducken - on again off again. The 2 reliables lately have been AD and Tiny Tiger (Turkey). I think maybe the lower BG means smaller appetite so I need to give her less food. But also she is being a brat. Walking away from her bowl and then going to finish Sam's.

Poor Suzanne, poor Darcy. When Minnie had the feeding tube, everyone here said to get the ad which is for sick animals - and is super smooth, easy to make into slurry. Well, they both just love it (sometimes lately she walks away though). It's about 11%. Do they feed Darcy when he's at the vet? Maybe they could offer him some, see if he'll take it. And even if not, maybe worth getting a couple of cans while you're there. It's awful when they won't eat. I can't imagine what a struggle it is for you right now.

Yep. I believe I was one who said to get AD for Minnie after she got out of the hospital... because I've never had a cat who didn't like it... now the really sick ones would try to eat it and may not have been able to eat a whole lot of it... but they still seemed to like it. That's why I am a little terrified to offer it to Darcy an have him refuse. The last cat I had who would not eat AD died a few days later -- normally he would try to get into another sick cat's room to get to the AD. I knew something serious was wrong when that boy wouldn't eat AD.

Anyway, I just keep on syringe feeding Darcy.... problem is he is losing a lot of weight. I am reluctant to keep stuffing up a cat who is morbidly constipated, but if I don't feed him he is going to be very sick in a few days time. I don't know what to do so I feed him some... but it's not enough calories to keep him at a good weight.

OBTW, Minnie's PMPS is pretty low... do you think she's going to drop pretty low tonight?
Ha, who knows?!! You have missed all of Minnie's recent dramatics. This PMPS isn't really that low by recent standards. I think probably not given how much she's been eating but it's probably time I checked her BG again. Those poor little ears. But at least I have time now to feed if necessary. I am not really a fan of the early morning shot time but it really does make her schedule a lot easier to manage.

Oh goodness, I just read your other post. I am so sorry to hear this, I can barely imagine how you must be feeling let alone find the right words. At least it sounds like the ER vet had some effective alternative treatments. Do you feel confident with your current vet at least? Come on Darcy, we're all on your side. I promise no more poop videos.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
