Because I suck, that's why. Poor girl - she maintained the 200s till at least +8 when I checked before going to bed (after waking up on the couch). Stupid fur shot...

Well, this morning's better have gotten in her. Like I said - I definitely got the needle in her last night - must have somehow come out the other side. But I didn't smell the insulin on her immediately after when I smelled her fur. It wasn't till I got home after my walk that I smelled it on her.

Her appetite was fairly lousy this morning, but I think I got nearly all of her breakfast (2 Tbsp FF) in her. So - she's starting the day with a fairly full tummy. Hanging out on the papasan cushion next to Blue's cage with me.

I had to tighten the E collar on Blue today. It was getting looser and when I checked this morning (it looked like it was sliding down his back!) he could have easily wriggled out of it. I think after keeping it fairly tight on him for the last week, he may have given up on even trying to get out of it - so even when it loosened, he didn't try. But I'm not taking chances while I'm at work. Of course, now I'm watching him, wondering if it's too tight (I can fit at least 2 fingers in it). Poor guy - one more week of this, hopefully. Today - this afternoon, really - is 2 weeks since his surgery. He no longer heads to the left when he walks - he can adjust for the missing leg. Not sure how he figured that out in the cage, but he did. The incision is covered in white peach fuzz - makes it look soft focus. I wonder what will happen the first time he tries to jump up on the couch. I've stopped him from trying so far - he seems convinced he'll make it up there, just like always. I have another set of pet steps (the first set is next to the bed) that I picked up at a yard sale and I need to disinfect them and then we can put that near the couch. Not sure how he'll manage the steps at first, but hopefully he'll pick that up as fast as everything else so far.

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483

Hi Krys,
I'm up early again. Sorry about the fur shot; it happens. I have the same length needle and sometimes don't feel it going in and wonder if I did a fur shot! You will get Kasha back on track. I am amazed at Blue; what a survivor! I need to wake up. I turned the coffee on but forgot to place the pot on the plate, so what a mess! Hang in there!

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483

Don't you just hate when fur shots happen, especially when they've been doing so well.
Kasha will recover though so don't feel too bad.

Ann, the reason you had that issue with the coffe pot is because it was 4:00 AM!!!! That's night - not morning!!! LOL...

Iorwen - I know, I was soooo bummed out that Kasha had such a great PS last night and then I totally destroyed it with a fur shot. I think I jinxed myself by asking a question about dose decreases! I swear she managed to squeeze the insulin out of her when I left the house last night! I don't know how... At least she was in the pinks when I left for work today.

Blue and Kasha update: I forgot to tell this story yesterday. My parents stopped over yesterday (Fathers' Day) and surprised me while I was working on my yard (which was probably my dad's favorite part of the day - to see me actually working on my yard - LOL). I took my mom in to see Blue, cuz she hasn't seen him up and about. I opened the cage and he toddled out. Hopped along on the papasan cushion. And then he walked right up to Kasha and they sniffed noses for about 5 seconds. Then he turned and walked away, she sniffed at him again and gave a half-hearted hiss, no swats. You probably don't understand - but that's a LOT nicer for Kasha than she's ever been to Blue. Later they were both on the papasan cushion about 2 feet apart, just hanging out. Crazy...

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483

Oh, poo for those stupid Fur Shot, but hey, it happens and you just pick up and move on. Kasha will get back to those nice numbers, so one fur shot will not make much of a difference. Spot has gotten several fur shots and lookie at him :-D

Just so you know, I am sitting here at my desk with a huge smile on my face after reading your update on Blue and then your little ditty on Blue and Kasha. I am so impressed with Blue. He is such a fighter! I'm sure the surgery was much worse on you than it was on him! Please give the little fellow a nice but squish and kiss his head for me. I am sooo happy!!!

Spot would like to know if Kasha will be attending the solstice party at Tess's tonight and if she is going to bring Blue along. Spot will keep an eye on Blue to make sure that he keeps his e-collar on and doesn't dance or jump (to much, lol).

Hope you have a great day, Krys!

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483

Hoping Kasha's numbers turn around quickly after the fur shot I actually think I did this with Do Lou over the weekend since I could smell lantus on his fur and I bet it does not take Blue long to figure out steps :-D good to hear he is doing well

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483

Are you sure it was a fur shot and not a bounce off of yesterday's blue numbers? Great to hear that Kasha is being more pleasant to Blue!

It's not following the pattern of her latest bounces (which have been resolving REALLY fast if you see the data). But mostly - I smelled the Lantus on her before I even touched her to test for her +2 last night. She reeked of it. That's mainly why I think it's a fur shot.

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483 PMPS 138 - Woohoo!

Check out that PMPS - she's giving me another chance to make up for last night - LOL! I definitely did NOT smell insulin on her fur tonight - but I didn't last night either until a few hours post shot. I was VERY careful shooting tonight - so we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bounce in the offing, since she started off so high today and who knows how low she went, but hopefully that will follow some pattern that makes sense to me.

Appetite mediocre. She ate about 1 1/2 Tbsp dinner and then when I took the "soiled" food away and replaced with "fresh" (right out of the can, with a secret mix-in of Lysine), she ate some of the 2nd helping too. But a heaping bowl of food was eaten today while I was out. She didn't touch the little bit of food in the autofeeder, but her main bowl was empty. When my finances settle a bit, I'm going to buy a scale so I can keep track of kitty weights now.

I think I may keep the cage out for feeding times. This is nice not having to fight Blue off from eating her food. Poor little guy - he's sick of that cage and being so good. He sleeps with his face against the side of it - only on the side that faces the main area of the house. And he sticks his front paws out too. 7 more days... I think he would just be happier without the E collar, but it seems to be worse when I take it off for a while and then put it back on. He seems more accepting (resigned?) when it just stays on all the time. His incision is soooo covered in white fuzz now. It's crazy.

Ok - going for a walk now. I don't know where Kasha's going with these numbers, so I figure the sooner I head out, the better.

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483 PMPS 138 - Woohoo!

Great pmps! Kasha recovered quickly from the nasty fur shot. I love hearing about Blue. I know how hard it is for you to see him like that, but you are doing the right thing. In another week, you'll be glad that he's all healed, didn't tear his stitches, and is getting around on his own.

Blackie hopes to see Kasha & Blue at the Summer Solstice party tonight.

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483 PMPS 138 - Woohoo!

Oh yeah - Kasha's already got the party started!

She said she would bring Blue along but she doesn't want to babysit him all night (it's such a drag), so you all have to make sure he doesn't jump around too much and tear those stitches!

Kasha's standing at the door meowing to go out (she an inside kitty) - guess she's in a hurry to get to that party!

Re: 6/21 Kasha AMPS 483 PMPS 138 - Woohoo!

Are we surfing the blues? I wouldn't know - because Kasha doesn't usually surf - she's more into diving ;)

Ok - I uploaded some pics of Blue - they're not very good, just from my phone, but I think they're cute... Be warned, you can see the incision site in one or 2 of the pics, but it's not too visible or particularly graphic or anything. I don't know how to include images in a post (anyone?) but here's the link to the album of Blue's pics. I'll be adding more, hopefully better pics, but this will at least give anyone who wants a chance to see my brave little boy (the one of him on the couch is from tonight - he's sleeping on the couch next to me as I type this):

Hi Krys, Blue is a very brave and patient boy! What a sweet face! He'll do just fine and I'll bet he can't wait to get out of his cage full time! Too bad about Kasha's fur shot, but she didn't waste any time getting back to good numbers! Stu is looking forward to seeing her at the solstice party. And if Blue can come, Stu and Spotty will watch to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid!

Kasha and Blue are on their way to the party! Hope Stu and Spot are up to the task - making sure Blue doesn't do something goofy is a full-time job lately!

I just looked at Blue's pictures, and he is beautiful. He's coming along great from what I can see. It looks like he has just enough room to move about that he doesn't overdo. Blue is a very lucky kitty to have such a good Mom bean. I've been gone part of the day, so just catching up.

After sleeping on the couch next to me for an hour or 2, Blue woke up and was hopping all around (and me following him everywhere).

There was an exciting milestone tonight - he made it through the cat door (which is just a hole my dad cut in the door to my enclosed front porch where the litter boxes are). I was a little worried about the height of the door - wondered if he'd have problems hopping over it -but not only did he do it, he hopped through it wearing the awful E collar! That's a relief - since that's where the litter boxes are, I was concerned about his ability to get to them easily. So far, so good. We haven't made sure he can hop in and out of the litter boxes yet - they are a little higher than the box in his cage, I think.

Kasha Blue is a beautiful cat I am so happy your vets gave you the soft blue e-collar cats I think like them better then the hard plastic ones not that any cat likes them but soft ones I think are better for cats if at all possible :-D he looks like he is doing well how did he get the name Blue since he is white? just curious I think I expected to see a pic of a grey cat  :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

I'll have to get some better pics out there. He got the name Blue for his one blue eye... His brother, Big White Cat (GA) had 2 golden eyes and when they were little, we could only tell them apart by eye color...

Somehow, we couldn't come up with names for the boys when we found them. We weren't expecting to adopt 2 kittens when we found them on the corner of our street. Nothing fit. And they were/are both deaf so I couldn't choose something based on a sound they liked either. So - not the most original names, but we called them a lot of things. One of my acquaintances used to call Big White Cat "Odell" for some strange reason but none of the cats could hear their names, and we'd change them up frequently in the beginning. "Blue" is the one that sort of stuck to Blue. Big Cat went through a lot of variations until his name settled... believe it or not
