I've read the starter info and will set up a spreadsheet soon, but quick question - the solostar pen in use really should not be refrigerated??

Hi Jeanene and welcome. Refrigerate Lantus always, and that goes for the pens, the cartridges, and the vials. The only reason the manufacturer says not to refrigerate is because most human users need large doses and the insulin feels very cold when they shoot if they keep it in the frige. Lantus will last longer if you refrigerate it. Keep it calm and don't shake it or roll it. It doesn't like to be shook up!!

Good luck and welcome to you and to Chase!

Thanks guys! I was confused based on the pharmacist's sticker on the box and the portion of the novel they call package inserts that said don't refrigerate and the info sheet that said to refrigerate. I thought it might be because of the sting, but didn't want to blow it on our first day. Gosh, Chase has been on PZI for probably 6 years and I feel like I am a total newby tonight.

Welcome! You're in the right place - feel free to ask any other questions you have and someone will be along to help you out. I wish I'd found this forum when I gave my first Lantus shot!!!

I don't know anything about PZI, but I believe Lantus is a different animal completely - you'll get plenty of good advice and info from people here to help smooth your transition...

Hi again, Jeanene,
Stu was on PZI vet for 4+ years, so I know how you feel. lantus is a great insulin, but you don't have the flexibility you had with PZI. The 12-12 shooting schedule is important. Consistency has a lot to do with Lantus's success. I found that it's best to totally put out of your mind the procedures and routines you followed with PZI. Don't be discouraged if you don't see lower bg numbers right away. It takes a few days for the "shed" or "depot" to build up, and a lot of the insulin you shoot at first will be going into building this shed.
Welcome to LL!
