Junior kicked this morning with a green. In my head I'm thinking, do I shoot? Not shoot? Stall and test again?

I decided to stick with the normal routine. Feed, shoot, and make sure he doesn't hypo.

So I fed, took a deep breath and....GAH!!!! Another fur shot!

What is wrong with me?!?

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88

Good morning guys .. love the number junior is starting out at, sorry to hear it was a furshot .. they happen, don't beat yourself up over it :-D Have a great day guys!

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88

I think we're going to do shot lessons as well as how to do the Vulcan death grip!

Why are you sure this is a fur shot? If Junior's fur is damp, it could be from Lantus on the outside of the syringe.

Ummmmmm....... You really need to get tests during the PM cycle. I'm really a bit nervous that Junior is going lower than what your catching and some nights you aren't testing at all. Given how well Junior is doing, you need to get those tests in. Many cats have lower numbers at night.

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88

Great start to the day. Simon's on the same dose, and I've had many "suspected" fur shots that
turned out OK. It's hardly enough insulin to wet the fur ;-)

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88

Hope your fur shot was just some insulin on the tip of the syringe and Junior surfs these nice but safe greens

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88

Sienne,

You raise a good point. It felt like the needle punctured his skin but I thought it was a fur shot when I smelled Lantus on his fur. Didn't think about the Lantus that was on the needle! I'll test him now to see where he's at.

Re: tests, I know my SS looks like I'm not testing but I do try every few hours every day and night. His aggression is getting worse so I wait till he calms down and try again. Yesterday and last night was the worst where he bit all over my hand and palm and bunny kicked me through my sweatshirt.

So yes, I totally agree I need to get more data in and I can't wait for my Vulcan death grip lesson tonight!

Are you giving treats at test time? I'd also make sure you're talking to Junior all the way through the testing. Try to use one spot for testing. Give treats at that spot independent of testing, as well.

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88 +3 76

It took us awhile to get the +2 which is now +3. Just so he doesn't get more traumatized with ear pokes as he has with paw pokes, I'm going to stay with his paws until our lesson tonight. Not looking forward to testing him every 15 min if he drops below 50 but I gotta do what I gotta do.

I give him treats and we use one spot for testing. And yes, I've talk to him to keep me and him calm. I've learned to stay calm and not get upset anymore, which has helped.

Definitely looking forward to our lesson tonight! Even if there's still lightning, I'm coming over!

Its hard to shoot when the kitty is fiesty.....Curry can be a growly girl but doesn't fight me to poke or shoot. I am armed with treats.

One Vulcan Death Grip coming up....

Fur shots...BAH! They drive me bananas!! I was the queen of fur shots the first few weeks, until i got Leo's shoulders shaved for the first month and a half.

I hope the lessons go well and you learn lots!!

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88 +3 76 +5 70

OMG Tena that picture made me laugh out loud so hard I think I scared Junior!

He's wasn't as wriggly at +5 so that was nice. I'd like to think it was because I didn't taste too good last night. I even found bite marks on my tricep! Glad I don't taste like Fancy Feast.

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88 +3 76 +5 70

glad you're going to get some of sienne's teachings. the numbers look great, hopefully a few changes in tactic will get your arms looking just as good. no reason to get beat up every day.

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88 +3 76 +5 70

How lucky you are to get such a good teacher--Paws are sensitive, ears seem much better--I am always armed with treats too--Moonie gets so distracted
by eating she forgets what I am doing
You are really doing great!! I am the Queen of Fur Shots 3 + years & counting
But I am getting better   Hugs from us!

Heading out for a little bit and gave Junior a little Karo to hold him until I get back.

I'll give you the same pep talk I gave myself more than once during Lucy's FD journey. Look at Junior's spreadsheet. He is doing GREAT. Really great. It sounds like he isn't easy to test, but it really looks as though if you can put in the extra effort right now, you might not have to keep it up for very long (anti-jinx). Payoffs can be really huge!

Re: 6/20 Junior AMPS 88 PMPS 96 +3 72

HALLELUJAH! Finally got my first stress-free ear poke! The hardest part has been getting the blood, the oh so precious blood, on the meter. Junior was still wriggly but I learned a bunch of tips in watching and talking with Sienne.

I was so ecstatic that I picked up Junior and we did a happy dance together. Apparently Junior was not thrilled as I was because he then bit me on my face. But I'm so excited I don't care.

Thank you all for stopping my condo today. Yes Junior has been difficult to test lately and all your words of encouragement have kept my spirits up. And yes I'm hoping that the end of the road is soon but if it isn't, I'm ok with that. I just had a great ear poke! I'm going to Disneyland!

Hmmm. I may have celebrated prematurely. Last few tries have been unsuccessful. Going for the paw to at least get a number.
