Oh my gosh seriously worst day ever!!! I gave Giuseppe his shot and he is my cat thats basically a dog and likes to potty outside. So I let him out to potty and went out 20mins later to get him back in to test him again just cause his number was pretty low this morning. Wellllll I searched for 3hrs now and couldn't find him, he ALWAYS comes when I call him (again just like a dog) Needless to say I have been historically crying and stomping though out all the woods around my house where I find him often and nothing, no sign of him. I was sure he was hypo laying somewhere hearing me call and couldn't get up to come to me. So then I walk back to the house and he's covered in dirt laying by the door. I have never been so relieved in my life and I never want to let him out ever again.
So happy he's okay and next time he's just going to have to potty in his litter box like a cat is suppose to.

I get just as upset if I can't find the cats and they don't go outside!

You might want to grab a test at +3.5 to make sure where Giuseppe is going with his numbers. He's awfully close to dose reduction territory.

Yikes! That is seriously scary! Some people here take there cats outside on leash and harness.

I agree with Sienne on a second test soon. I know he likes to surf the 50's but that is a bit low.

Hes at 57 after LC food. Thats not much of a food spike, I'm going to test him again in 30 mins

oh, I bet that was real scary to not be able to find him, especially with him being so low in the first place. I am so glad he was at the door when you got home.

Yes freaking out was an understatement. I have no idea what he was doing cause in the 6yrs I've had him he's never not come to me when I called for him. He will pop out of anywhere and run to me like he hasn't seen me in years

Well as I suspected now after the food has worn off at +5 he's 45. Gave him a bit of gravy since we still have 6hrs to go

i can totally imagine how scary that was. A friend of mine has a diabetic dog - she got out and was 6 hrs late for her shot. Someone had contacted my friend that she'd found her dog, but then my friend couldn't reach them back. It was awful.

Punkin went out for walks on a leash. we bought a cute purple harness & leash - even if he was a boy, the purple looked cute with his orange hair! hehehe. i started getting him used to it by just putting the harness on inside. once he accepted it for longer than a few minutes, i would put the leash on for short times. When he moved, i followed him. Eventually we went outside with it. I was quick to pick him up if he started freaking out or pulling on it.

He did adjust fine and we had many walks around our neighborhood. He never really went very far, but he managed to drag me through a lot of spider webs and under a lot of bushes. He also preferred to be loose in the car, he kinda went nuts in a cat carrier, so i'd put the harness on him at home, then before i opened the car door i'd clip on the leash so he couldn't get away.

nothing's as scary as losing your diabetic pet. i'm so glad he was fine!

Yay on Giuseppe's dose reduction. He's looking awesome. His new dose is 1.0u.

edited to add - i used the PetSafe 5 compartment feeder with canned food. I put one ice cube on top of each blop of canned food to keep it cold and fresh. it was fine.

Yes it is the scariest thing ever to lose a pet period, much less a diabetic one running low numbers.. I never want that to happen ever again. He's never been a hunter in his life and all the sudden since the diabetes he's been leaving gifts for me daily at my doorstep. I take it as a compliment that he is so sweet leaving his mommy presents but geez. The other day he had a whole huge bird in his mouth, I was like how in the world.. So i'm sure he was off with his new found love of hunting.

Thanks for the info on feeders, that will help out tremendously

I haven't had a chance to welcome you to LL! Giuseppe is looking great! I'm so glad he was ok. I don't blame you for wanting to keep him in.
