We had to take Trixie to the vet yet again this morning; during the overnight hours, she was having some pretty painful urination (something we've been dealing with on and off for a couple months now). First thing this morning, her urination seemed better; however, after breakfast (the morning routine seemed pretty normal), she wasn't able to walk more than a few steps before having to lay down.
X-rays showed she had fluid around her lungs, and her heart has a distinctive gallop...so yes, most likely CHF. They drained 7oz of fluid and put her on a tiny dose of Lasik to see if we could possibly balance the heart and kidneys.
As for the urination, the vet things after all we've been through there it's most likely idiopathic cystitis. If she does OK with the Lasik, we'll probably add gabapentin for pain management. The vet didn't want to do too many changes at once, though.
She's been battling seriously advanced CKD for so long, so I can't say I'm shocked, but I am still quite sad (can't think of how else to put it). We're taking things one minute at a time. He seemed to think she'd be OK through the weekend at least, although of course with heart issues you never know for sure.
I'm supposed to vend at a bead show this weekend, but I guess I'll be cancelling - it would be horrible if something happened and I wasn't here. So on top of all the cat stuff, it really appears that the powers that be just do not want me to get this business off the ground....
